- Not Naughty Dog (Linear as hell games, barely have any replayability, and too much focus on graphics)

- Not Mojang (I have no idea why everyone so obssessed with this indie company and notch, minecraft feels like a glorified level creator, and there is no point of playing it more than a couple of minutes, atleast Terraria had an actual good battle system and "Adventure" as in it pays if you try exploring)

I will never understand you >_>. Minecraft is very rewarding if you explore

Ironic you talked about exploration and then say you'd never understand because of Uncharted.

No, I was pointing out the irony in your post. You say you don't like Uncharted for its linearity, then go on to say Minecraft needs more of it.

How in the world did you get "Linearity" from that Minecraft part?

- Not Mojang (I have no idea why everyone so obssessed with this indie company and notch, minecraft feels like a glorified level creator, and there is no point of playing it more than a couple of minutesatleast Terraria had an actual good battle system and "Adventure" as in it pays if you try exploring)

there is a huge difference between linearity and the lack of content, uncharted has both these issues though.

Well you seem to want some direction, hence the "Adventure" part. How does Minecraft lack content for a 10-20 dollar game? :O You can play it for hours on end and still have only created one measly house.

Direction =/= linearity, Adventure =/= Linearity, infact its the opposite, its exploration.

also I clearly said "it pays if you try exploring" , as in there is content to be rewarded if you want to explore.

also Minecraft isn't a 20 dollar game.

I can play Garry's Mod for hours on end and i create a car, but where is the gameplay? i want to play, not create, Little big Planet does this right, but not Minecraft , the only thing you can play with other people's creation is just admire how much work they put on it, basically, like I said, a glorified level creator

Naughty Dog is awesome. By best developers I consider everything, and ND has a lot of updates for their games, their graphic engine is super awesome, their set pieces are awesome, gameplay maybe linear, but linear games have their own charm if done right. Uncharted is the second best linear game imo. The best goes to God of War.

You would be stupid to say Santa Monica doesn't deserve a mention for making God of War linear btw. There's more to a game then it's linearity/openness.

Pretty much this. It seems some just like to think linearity = bad, all or most of the time. In my experience that is not the case. Often far from it. Some of the best games of all time are linear, but some are open and grant you more freedom. It's just a different style of games, not like good vs. evil.

It seem to be the latest mantra of the so called "Hardcore" gamer.

Linearity = crap.

90% of the time they have no clue what they talking about or are just looking for a reaction.

Yes and i want platforming to be the main focus of the next Call of Duty game.

Surely you are trolling at this point?

Valve gets my vote for PC
Atlus for handheld
I'm undecided for consoles.

Valve has shown it's not pulling any punches on Dota 2 and hopefully it will become a successful e-sport.

I have no doubt in my mind that Dota 2 will be huge any way you slice it. I just wonder how huge. Can it overtake LoL to become the biggest MOBA game around?

Id say the biggest MOBA game around is still the original DOTA But thats kinda hard to prove :/

That's what I thought until a few days ago when I heard LoL has something like 30 million players :|

dam that is a lot :O

According to icefrog something like 15 million people download the new dota map...not sure if thats the correct figure though to lazy to check. And you also got to take into account that not everybody downloads the map...dota is played quite heavily as a LAN only game as well.

1. Nintendo (really gets me how people can't include them in their list)
2. Valve (for Portal 2 would be first, but no Half Life 3 knocks it down)
3. Monolith Soft (Xenoblade. 'nuff said).
4. Namco (Tales of___games)
5. Capcom (I disagree with their policies, but their Nintendo games, like Revelations, MH3, Resi4 Wii means they deserve a place on this list).

Naughty Dog don't deserve a place, because the Uncharted games are massively overhyped, and that's ALL they've done to my knowledge. You need width and breadth to be a good dev, not winging it on one series. I preferred it when they did the Crash Bandicoot games...

Not necessarily. Like someone mentioned earlier, the Forza devs make consistently quality games and so does Naughty Dog. So if you like their way of making games it's a not brainer that you would include them on your list. ND are working on The Last of Us which will be very different from Uncharted.

I notice you listed Monolith Soft. Aren't they mainly an RPG dev?

They are, but they make a wide series of RPG's, namely the Baiten Kaitos and Xeno____ series. In addition, they do a lot of smaller stuff. And the Uncharted games just bored me anyway. The dialogue was a bit ropey, they were pretty darn linear and it just felt unifinished. I'll never understand the appeal.

But TLOU does look pretty sweet!

Why does TLOU excite you despite their work on Uncharted? The dialogue seems the same, from everything we've seen it will be probably less linear but not by much, and...I don't even know what to say about the unfinished comment.

In no specific order:

  • Rocksteady
  • Bungie
  • Epic Games
  • BioWare
  • Codemaster(s?)
  • Valve

I wanted to include more developers but I decided to keep the list short and stick to developers who've made more than one game this gen that I love, probably still forgot one or two though.

Ah, Rocksteady! They certainly deserve a mention. It is Codemasters

Def, Batman: AA and Batman: AC are two of the gems this gen.

Ah right, Codemasters, I keep forgetting. :P (I want GRID 2!!!)

there is a huge difference between linearity and the lack of content, uncharted has both these issues though.

Uncharted 3 has an 8 hour single-player and a huge multi-player offering, including co-op. And DLC has been rolled out frequently and regularly. That's more content than most games. And since when was linearity an issue? I guess half-life 2 is a horrible game. If you don't like linearity in games that's fine, but it's a subjective criticism and should be treated as such.

Half Life 2 is NOT linear, Halo Is NOT linear, Bad Company is NOT Linear, Metroid Prime Is NOT Linear, Left 4 Dead is NOT Linear, Bioshock Is NOT Linear....ect

You take on a level any way you want, By car? by walking? , Stealthy? ...ect

Call Of Duty IS Linear, Battlefield 3 is linear, Uncharted is Linear, Medal Of Honor (the last one) IS Linear

You take on a level only the way it tells you to do, you can't do it any other way,

example on Call Of duty's EVERYONE favourite mission the all guillied up one, it shows you where to go and tells you when you have to hide and when you have to shoot and exactly when you have to move, if you don't do that, it replays the part you messed up on, basically, its all handholding.

On Bad Company there is a similar mission , but you have the choice of either doing that, or WALK SOMEWHERE ELSE and snipe from afar, OR bring a car and ambush OR tell your squad mates to do it for you OR OR OR ....ect

See? thats the difference, Call Of Duty your squad's movement and enemy movement are all scripted, same with uncharted and all the shooter listed above

5. Blue Tongue- I loved de Blob 1 and 2, really sad that they folded.

4. Capcom- Okami and Okamiden are far more than enough to put them on the list.

3. EA- The Urbz: Sims in the City on the DS, The Sims 3 and SSX.

2. Game Freak- Pokemon Black and White and HeartGold and SoulSilver alone are enough to put them here.

1.Nintendo- Super Mario Galaxy 1/2, Super Smash Bros. Brawl, Fossil Fighters, Elite Beat Agents, Mario and Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story.. I really don't need to say more.
