Forums - General - Local Pastor Calls For Death of 'Queers & Homosexuals'

You know what's funny about this? Nobody really bats an eye when some old, balding or white-haird pastor from generations past starts ranting about the sins and evil of homosexuality. We all collectively hate it and pity the fool, but it's nothing new or special. These were the same morons who claimed that giving women the right to vote was an affront to the bible, or letting blacks in our schools was going to bring about the end-times.

I should make a church of militant atheism, wherein I'll start saying equally ignorant things like "Death to the religious" and "God hates pastors". I bet that'd get a hell of a reaction, too.

But of course, these ignorant, hateful, barbaric religious leaders are free to speak and preach whatever stupidity they want because of that pesky freedom of speech amendment bullshit. I love freedom of speech, but when your freedom to speak is only used to be hateful and bigoted, you should have that freedom revoked.

Who decides what is hateful and bigoted?

That is why the 1st amendment exists.

If you arbitrarily place what is hateful and bigoted, in a way that would allow someone to have their freedom of speech revoked, then you've given those powers of compulsion to an entity to act against others.

When that happens, there is a very short distance to go from banning speech among any dissident viewpoint. What if the speech is hateful against the Republicans? Or Democrats? Or Socialists? What if it is bigoted against Nintendo fans?

Just because he makes horrible statements about a group of people doesn't mean he should be tossed in jail and permanently silenced. That is how opressive regimes come and stay in power. Dictatorships hate dissent. If we remove speech from people, even if its vile, we'll begin to peel away at other rights of speech. No debates for fear of reprisal. No discussion for fear of jailtime.

Remember, at one time, it was radical and likely hateful to demand equality for women, blacks, or gays. Now we're arguing for the pendulum to swing the exact opposite way and jail people that would question some things. That doesn't make their viewpoint right. But it should allow everyone to hear such viewpoints, and debate if they are right or wrong.

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.

Oh, shut your American hole. We are allowed to say whatever we want over here as long as we don't discriminate or threaten anyone in the process. By your logic, rasism should be allowed if the majority of a society think so.

The freedom of speech does not allow you to threaten or discriminate people over here. If America has other laws then that's beyond tragic.

Threatening I understand, but people should have every right to be a bigot and racist and spout their hateful opinions, just as you have a right to call these people exactly what they are.  The whole point of the first ammendment is to protect speech that is found offensive.  Why is there any point protected speech that isn't offensive?  Idiots like this and their hate mongering must be legally tollerated so that we are all protected from legislation that may infringe on our rights.  If you open the door to say "you can't use speech that discriminates" then that sets a precident for any speech that may be viewed as discriminatory, at the discretion of the government.

Oh yeah? So you wouldn't mind if a bunch of nazis started marching the streets and express their 'opinions'?

Just listen to yourself.

In America, they are allowed to.

In fact, we had a neo-nazi march a few years back in my local town.

Do you know what happened? 3 skinheads showed up. About 100 others showed up with signs that derided the Neo-Nazis. Clearly their freedom of speech did more to invoke words against their behavior than for it.

Interesting.

Do you want to know what happened in Germany 70 years ago when thousands of Nazis started doing the same thing?

You can't stop people from having ignorant opinions. But you can stop them from spreading them.

Vocal minority groups now have more power than the silent majority. Political correctness is an unfair and undemocratic practice. The majority have to go with the flow or face being persecuted by the PC crowd.

lol @The1 trying to promote hindered or monitored speech. Keep your backwards beliefs in sweden where they belong. Here in America, we be free to say as we pleae without some govment ridin our back.
OT: A little extreme imo, but I think his heart was in the right place.

^An American has spoken.

Edit: And not only the government thinks that holding racist speeches in public should be illegal, but over 95% of the entire population. The way you're thinking is just plain ridiculous.

lol, the bible

@The1
Everyone is misinterpreting this man. He didn't call for the death of gays, he claimed that if we put them all together, they would naturally die out. He of course forgot straight couples produce gay babies, not gay couples so his plan clearly wasn't well thought out.

I hope all queers and homosexuals die too.

I would be so upset and jealous if they turned out to be immortal beings.

I am not a believer but I agree with those who said it is idiots like this preacher who gives christianity a bad name.

They claim to base they beliefs on christ but somehow I don't see christ saying anything like this in his day.
Judgement is suppose to be god's, not theirs. If god exist and have issues with gays let him deal with it.

Although Christ never mentioned it, the Old Testament certainly does, and condemns it every time it is mentioned.

The problem, of course, is you're not supposed to judge yourself; you're supposed to let God judge. Religion is supposed to be separate from law.

And then there's the fact that he probably finds many things in the Bible deplorable (the right to beat and rape women and own slaves, for example), so he's just cherrypicking with this one.

I totally agree. If memory serves me correctly the old testament also supports stoning prostitutes, going to war and slaughtering women and children etc.,

I was taught Christians are suppose to forget all that stuff and focus on the new testament way.

Christ never threatened anyone with death or said they should be killed. As you said that's for judgement and the afterlife or whatever.
