Forums - Sales - Global HW (UK & USA UP) - 12th May

The price is fine. The only reason it's not selling its because it has no games. Yes, it is the same price as a PS3, but the PS3 is 6 years old. If anything is overpriced, its the PS3. Sony does need recognizable IP, but they don't necessarily have to be exclusive. A COD, Assassins Creed, FIFA..etc made to take advantage of Vita's features is all that is really needed. If they get cross platform play with PS3 that's a reason to own both.

I can't see CoD being a massive success.  Why buy it on a $250, unestablished handheld that's likely to be the weaker version, when you can get it on a $250 PS3.  There's no incentive for everyday people to go for it.  It probably won't be unique enough to differ from console experiences anyways besides being the weaker port.

If you don't secure noteworthy exclusives, your console losses value.  Mario, Resident Evil, Monster Hunter, Kid Icaris, Pokemon, etc.  All of which are popular and noteworthy exclusive IPs (Some may be timed).  The last thing Vita needs is more ports of current gen console games.

3DS is barely keeping up with last year revenue total

May 14 2011 88.5k @ 249 = 22.1m
May 12 2012 132.1k @ 169 = 22.3m

Whilst the HW may be bringing in the same money (roughly), the software revenue is much, MUCH higher. They'll likely be making a lot more on SW than they are on HW currently, and you can't sell SW without a HW for it to work with. So...the numbers are better than they may seem...

Here lies the dearly departed Nintendomination Thread.

Overall sales:

PlatformN. AmericaEuropeJapanGlobal
42,048 33,861 46,823 132,176
46,067 52,035 13,549 129,737
63,386 34,866 978 108,498
25,453 23,468 5,958 62,071
4,688 24,273 11,721 53,641
19,996 18,820 6,324 48,646
14,785 15,403 1,118 35,063

So Vita below the PSP and the 50k mark (something the 3DS never did, it was selling around double what the Vita is now pre-price cut), 3DS has a heavy drop and is likely to fall below the PS3 next week or the week after, the 360 could fall below 100k next week or the week after, Wii is gonna stay around 60k...

If it weren't for the 3DS with MH, Wii with Dragon Quest and 3DS with NSMB2 coming soon, I'd say we could see, for the first time, every singly console below 100k before year's end...

Also for comedic Reasons here is U.S.A compared to Japan

Country U.S.A Japan Japan
Population 312.000.000 126,500,000
Dividing Factor 0 2.47

PS3 21,276,211 8,626,412 8,170,659 -5%
X-BOX 360 34,320,837 13,915,339 1,582,479 -89%
Wii 39,328,627 15,945,339 12,375,411 -22%
3DS 5,087,304 2,062,641 5,935,019 188%
Vita 548,620 222,437 682,693 207%
DS 50,720,462 20,564,546 32,949,467 60%
PSP 19,524,853 7,916,327 18,958,653 139%

Your listed Wii Japan numbers are wrong (actual). The Wii has sold just over 12 million in Japan (12,375,411 according to MC).

Whoops, it was late at night i was meant to put those figures in.
Fixed.

PSP Lifetime more than PSV+3DS Lifetime.

Europe is up.

Starhawk really bombed here. Even lower than Japan.

that is a bomb...  Wow....  but fully expected.  Sequel to a poor selling and massively over-rated Warhawk.

It didn't sell poorly. It was an extremely cheap title & sold one-million units not including digital downloads. And most people disagree with that last statement but I guess you have your opinion.

3DS will do wonderful in August, NSMB2!  Also 3DS just crossed 6M in Japan.

Buying in 2015: Captain toad: treasure tracker,

mario maker

new 3ds

yoshi woolly world

zelda U

majora's mask 3d

360 price-cut coming at E3 effective immediately? They could avoid any danger of dropping below 100k post-e3 per week by doing that.

it was a very early PS3 title... people didnt have much else to play.  I am one of those million... buyers remorse kicked in soon after.

Starhawk conversely is a more expensive title and is launching when there are plenty of alternatives.... it will suffer as a result.

Don't know how that disproves what I said about the sales...but okay. And like I said, most people enjoyed Warhawk.
