"That man is playing galaga" LOL.

This movie did exactly what it was suppose to do great action, great adaptation of the characters, with light hearted fun and it nailed it. If you went to see this movie expecting it to change your perspective on life something must be wrong with you

I loved the Avengers but I still prefer TDK.

Avengers was great entertainment, crazy action and rly funny, but it wasnt as deep in term of story and emotion as I expected. Loki made the Thor movie 1 of my favorite marvel movie because he made that movie so emotional, so I was abit disapointed because of that. Also in the avengers when the war started, none of them ever got hurt and nothing rly happened that made us think that they could ''possibly'' lose. They just smash endless waves of enemies over and over again w/o sweating. I loved the avengers because it was pure fun entertainment but I still prefer TDK because it has a better deeper story, it's more emotional, better music, more artistic, more iconic and more memorable acting.

Also... WHY SO SERIOUSSS?!, come on, you have to hand it to TDK just for this line :P

What?! I can't hear you over all this awsome! - Pyrrhon (Kid Icarus:Uprising)

Final Ultimate Legendary Earth Power Super Max Justice Future Miracle Dream Beautiful Galaxy Big Bang Little Bang Sunrise Starlight Infinite Fabulous Totally Final Wonderful Arrow...FIRE! - Wonder-Red (The Wonderful101)

Not even close. Spider-man 2, X2, X-men First Class, The Dark Knight, Iron Man, and Captain American are all better films. Avengers was good but I don't see what was so amazing about it.

Sigs are dumb. And so are you!

I think it was pretty great overall, but there were a few things I didn't like.

I'm from Denmark, so I know stuff of norse mythology. The thing that really feels like a wasted opportunity to me, is how the characters are so shallow compared to the original source material. :P
in Thor, Lokes character changed for various reasons throughout the film, from starting out as actually interesting, to becoming a generic villain. Unfortunately, he was even more of a generic villain in this one even going so far as to do the "EVIL SMILE IN EVERY SCENE TO SHOW THAT I AM INFACT EVIL!" - He was A LITTLE sneaky in this one, not a lot though.. And every time he rejects Thor I don't really see why. And I base that after watching the other movie, where I didn't understand why he became so genericly evil from what happened to him there either. I thought it was a wasted opportunity, as they could have a far deeper character than just "I'm evil, in-case you wondered".

I also thought the aliens were extremely weak considering they die from a single pistol shot. The aliens were obviously underestimating humanity, but really, the way I saw it, the avengers weren't really needed. From how little it took to take them down, the normal military would properly have been adequate. I don't mind that they individually are at that strength, but it leads to the condition that, at no point, did I feel that the heroes could actually loose, or the world, had the heroes not been there.

Final thing.
Hulk completely goes bananas the first time, but the second time hes (mostly) just a good guy helping out. There were no transition or explenation. You might say that when he goes green the second time it's willingly, but since hulk supposedly takes over his mind when hes angry, and that he states at that point that hes always angry.. It doesn't really make that much sense. I just would have liked to see some kind of reason, like a device on his head, or him maintaining some humanity the first time.. Or even a .. eh :P "Training the inner hulk" collage scene with heavy 80s music playing in the background.

Just a few minor gripes with what's a very entertaining movie. :P I'll certainly get it on blu ray at some point when it comes out.

I really like how all characters feel like they get space in the movie, they're all shown mostly to the same degree. The pacing is very good, and I wanted to find out what was going to happen next at all times.

I also think some of the lesser known characters were badass :P Like Hawk.

I'd say it was a decent movie with significant flaws. Snyder simply wasn't up to the challenge of handling that source material. He's mostly lost when it comes to directing real movies with real stories.

What Whedon did that really impressed me was give fans of Thor, Hulk, Iron Man, and Captain America--and to a lesser degree, Hawkeye, Black Widow, and Nick Fury a reason to feel like this was their movie.  I'm a Cap fan and I felt like Cap kicked the most ass.  My sis likes Iron Man.  She thought he was the star of the movie.  A lot of people I talked to felt like this was Hulk's movie.  People on this very thread said it seemed like Thor 2.  The fact that everybody feels like they got what they wanted is a feat in and of itself.

I know the meat of the story was the heroes coming together to overcome a threat.  It didn't matter what the threat was as long as it was huge.  It happens all of the time in these origin stories.  I can respect that.  I know that if I made the movie and it had touched on everything I would have touched on (Cap adapting to life in our time and being discouraged with what America had become, Iron Man drinking too much, etc) it would have been a much darker movie and it would have been six hours long. It would have been the wrong way to go.

The movie did what it was supposed to do.  It gave us The Avengers.  Not as tragic or tightly woven as something like X-Men but the closest representation of what we think of when we think of comic book super-heroes--larger than life characters, bright colors, unbelievable action, and cool set pieces.  As a superhero movie, it's second to none.  I just remember the heroes and their action more than anything the villains did or exactly what their motivation to do certain things was.

Well, The Avengers is a lot tougher movie to direct than X-Men. In X-Men, the characters are completely driven by Xavier, which allows for a pretty linear and tight story. On top of that, there are obvious first tier, second tier, and third tier X-Men. There are several characters to deal with but many of them can get virtually no screen time (Colossus), moderate screen time (Rogue, Ice Man, etc.), or be a primary character (Wolvie, Jean). The Avengers had five or six primary characters.

On top of that, The Avengers are a motley bunch. What I thought was most fun about the movie is that the heroes did fight before coming together. It's an homage to the original Avengers story where they, unsurprisingly, fought Loki. The Avengers have always been about disparate heroes agreeing to come together to fight a greater evil, most of the time very reluctantly. You've read the comics, you know how often the characters fight one another. It happens all the time. That kind of story is going to seem more superficial and shallow than a Dark Knight or X-Men. It's just a different kind of film.

I'm really interested to see where they take Cap in future films. In Iron Man 2, we saw Tony start drinking too much but it ever devolved into full-blown alcoholism. In that vein, it will be interesting to see if Cap become disenfranchised with the American government over time.

PS. Nobody is really talking about it in the thread but Whedon did a fantastic job with Black Widow. I went into the movie thinking she was going to be vacuous arm candy but Johannssen hit it out of the park with her performance. She actually seemed like a real person, God forbid. That's far too rare when it comes to female action heroes. And my god, her ass. It was nice to see a female action star on film who didn't look like she could be broken in half by a six year old boy.

Avengers was the best of the ''avenger teaser'' movies, mainly because of Joss at the helm, the direction was perfect, but I also found it creativley drab and bland. Plus Loki and his thugs do not make for great villains. As someone mentioned above, Norse mythology was wasted.

Hellboy 2 is the best super hero movie for me, followed by Blade.

If you could see the smile on my face when she was "interrogating" Loki and they kept showing her from the back.....

@ watchmen

Maybe it just was not mainstream enough for me. Plus isn't the blue guy almost all powerful? We know what I think about that.

I think Watchmen would have had more impact if we had seen it much earlier.  Earlier adaptations wouldn't have done it justice, though.  If it had been done earlier, the idea of outlawed superheroes would have been fresher.  As it stands, everything from The Incredibles to Justice League (animated) has already done it.  I enjoyed it, though.  Pretty faithful to the comic--and I'm glad they didn't show a giant squid at the end.
