I think it was pretty great overall, but there were a few things I didn't like.
I'm from Denmark, so I know stuff of norse mythology. The thing that really feels like a wasted opportunity to me, is how the characters are so shallow compared to the original source material. :P
in Thor, Lokes character changed for various reasons throughout the film, from starting out as actually interesting, to becoming a generic villain. Unfortunately, he was even more of a generic villain in this one even going so far as to do the "EVIL SMILE IN EVERY SCENE TO SHOW THAT I AM INFACT EVIL!" - He was A LITTLE sneaky in this one, not a lot though.. And every time he rejects Thor I don't really see why. And I base that after watching the other movie, where I didn't understand why he became so genericly evil from what happened to him there either. I thought it was a wasted opportunity, as they could have a far deeper character than just "I'm evil, in-case you wondered".
I also thought the aliens were extremely weak considering they die from a single pistol shot. The aliens were obviously underestimating humanity, but really, the way I saw it, the avengers weren't really needed. From how little it took to take them down, the normal military would properly have been adequate. I don't mind that they individually are at that strength, but it leads to the condition that, at no point, did I feel that the heroes could actually loose, or the world, had the heroes not been there.
Final thing.
Hulk completely goes bananas the first time, but the second time hes (mostly) just a good guy helping out. There were no transition or explenation. You might say that when he goes green the second time it's willingly, but since hulk supposedly takes over his mind when hes angry, and that he states at that point that hes always angry.. It doesn't really make that much sense. I just would have liked to see some kind of reason, like a device on his head, or him maintaining some humanity the first time.. Or even a .. eh :P "Training the inner hulk" collage scene with heavy 80s music playing in the background.
Just a few minor gripes with what's a very entertaining movie. :P I'll certainly get it on blu ray at some point when it comes out.
I really like how all characters feel like they get space in the movie, they're all shown mostly to the same degree. The pacing is very good, and I wanted to find out what was going to happen next at all times.
I also think some of the lesser known characters were badass :P Like Hawk.
