Forums - General - So, we have a puppy

My previous dog died a couple years back, and my dad's been hankering for a new mutt, ever since. My mum isn't much of an animal person, so we had to get the dog on her terms (she picked the breed, gender, etc.).

In the end, we got a (hilariously named) cockapoo, her name's Sadie:

We've had her for a while, now, and these pics are a couple months old. But, without eliminating my masculinity, I cannot get over how cute she is.

Awwww :3

My dog is cuter though.

Cute enough for me to post that the dog is cute.

That is a cute pup.

Seriously though, all this crap about bringing back dog licenses... just muzzle them when outside, I want this brought in for all dogs out and about in the UK... any not wearing a muzzle should be taken from their owners.

Not sure if serious...

OT:

Cute.

I honestly think it depends on the temprament of the dog, itself. I can't stand it when owners don't have control of their dog, though.

Sadie's only about 4-5 months old, and we've already got her doing the basics - sit, lay, down, bed, as well as commands that get her to come back to us. Already, we can go out, go to a quiet area (so, few people around, we live in a country area), take her off her leash, and if there's another owner walking past, we can get her to come straight back without any fight. She's still quite playful with other dogs if we don't call her back soon enough, but that's more of an age thing, within a couple of years, she'll be walking straight past other dogs without paying a blind bit of notice.

But, if you can't train dogs, you shouldn't get one. They can destroy your home, your relationships, and can cause injury to unsuspecting guests, or, worse, strangers in the street. I don't know if dog licenses should be the way to go, this is a case where we have to rely on people's judgement... which means we'll never have a perfect solution.

tbh I agree.

no bad dogs, just bad owners is so true.

but its a mantra that is wearing thin whenever I see a story of a child killed or a person whose face has been ripped off.

9/10 cases, just look at the owners. They're not even fit to hold a job, let alone a dog. It's a symptom of the "broken Britain" which has come from decades of welfare living, generating a lack of respect and an "under"-culture which encourages, amongst other things, owners to buy and incorrectly train dogs to maintain a certain image.

We are currently working on getting some of our dog a good citizen's license through the AKC. It helps with home insurance among other things.

OMG THAT IS THE CUTEST THING I HAVE EVER SEEEEEN!!!

*cyber hugs*
