Forums - Nintendo - No Baldur's Gate for Wii U, bad Nintendo experience to blame

I can only back it up from my talks with other WiiWare developers.   And none they knew of any that had problems hitting the 6,000 unit mark.  Most of them said they got their first cut not too long after launch so hitting 6k apparently isn't that difficult.

Far from conclusive but fair enough.  In my opinion, the issues with MDK2 are:

A) The name - Unlike most WW shooters where it's clear from the name it's a shooter, absolutely nothing can be derived from MDK2.   This is compounded by the less than adequate write-up and pics in the Wii Shop channel.   Even a look at the cover or a couple images fail to convey what the game is.  Worse, it's not really a shooter in the traditional sense.

B) Timing - Most Wii owners who might like this game (IE: know what it is) have moved onto HD systems and are not checking WW for anything like this anymore.  Also predominately, Wii is a dancing game system nowadays with Just Dance and Zumba being the only titles selling consistantly well.   These new Wii owners couldnt care less about MDK2.  WW is also flooded with tons of titles now making it easy to get overlooked.

C) Price - If this was priced at $15 (which I suspect to keep it in line with PC but I haven't checked that), that's a hard sell on WW where most titles are $5-$10.  World of Goo did it, but WoG got lots of great press, FF did it, but it's FF!.   Again, by the time MDK2 came out, very few sites were bothering to review WW games anymore so no press and few reviews to justify that price.

D) Lack of marketing - They were probably overconfident in the license.  MDK2 was never that big to begin with and Wii's audience is mainly casual.  To expect enough people to know the game from it's glory days and want to buy it again was perhaps misguided.  Probably on any console but especially Wii.   However a WW demo would probably do wonders for their sales.   Wonder why they haven't tried that instead of whining like cry babies.

C) It was 1000 points or about $10.

D) This is the biggest issue.  Few people even knew the game was ocming until it was already out which is very different from most other WiiWare titles.  I'm in the media myself and baely knew it was coming and no one I know of in the industry was hit up by anyone from their PR firm to review the game.  Again, that's difernt from most other games as my staff and most media outlets are constantly bombarded with requests to view all manor of games (WiiWare included).

And I agree with others that they'll get the biggest sales boost of their lives from all this media play the game is finally getting.   Had they done some marketing to start with, they'd have hit the 6k threshold long ago.

Who cares thats its not coming to the Wii U. Why would you want to play baldur's gate on anything other than the PC? Topics like this should be auto deleted cause they go no where.

i agree they should only post articles of devs praising nintendo

Where did I say anything about praising the Nintendo? I'm a PC gamer. The console versions of everything suck and tailoring the games to run well on the consoles makes the PC versions suck. I would rather there be no console versions of it.

If that turns out to be the case they should ask the PR firm they hired for their money back. No reason why a one man PR team working out of his garage couldn't have badmouthed Nintendo to create publicity when the game just launched

Until you've played it, every game is a system seller!

LOL.  Almost makes me wonder if they suddenly realized that and did it to raise funds for Buldar's Gate development.  I sincerely doubt it but could work out that way all the same.

did the game come out in all regions (ie Australia)? I just moved to a new state and my wii isn't with me yet to check.

Doubt it. Lyrikalstylez has a history of Nintendo trolling.

It was either that or ignorance.  I thought I'd offer the more positive option fist.

I'm still amazed that they could shrink it in just 40MB, it wasn't huge, but it wasn't a small game, either.
