You aren't reading correctly! Together those games will help the 3DS trounce the PS3. Animal Crossing brings in the young kids and casuals while Luigi's Mansion gives someting for the Nintendo Fans. Animal Crossing (based on DS's sales for that game) sell really well on Portable consoles.

I rly dont see how you could possibly think that. The 3ds has been outselling the ps3 week after week after week... since atleast Novembre. In the last 5months the ps3 outsold the 3ds only during 3weeks. So I rly dont understand why you would think that the 3ds NEEDS a 2D Mario to outsell the ps3 because the 3DS has been on top of the WW charts for the last 5months w/o any 2D Mario games. Since the start of 2012, the 3ds sold 3,228,936 units against 2,962,866 for the PS3. With a difference of 266k its offcaurse possible for the ps3 to make a comeback, I'm not at all denying that, but still a difference of 266k in 4months proves that the 3ds outselling the ps3 is a constant trend. And the main reasons why the PS3 won last year is because it had 2 more months to sell units (3ds launched at mid-March if i'm not mystaken) and because the 3DS launched with no games and sold like crap for like 5months. This year the 3ds sold great during the month of january and february and I see no way in hell that in the upcoming spring/summer it could possibly sell as bad as last year's spring/summer, so both reasons why the ps3 won last year will not apply this year.
Now yes you can rely on some system sellers to push the PS3. But system sellers for consoles that are 5years old are not like system sellers for brand new consoles. When a console is 5years old the odds are that ppl who wanted to buy the system alrdy bought it and rly few has been waiting for 1paticular exclusive to buy a ps3. The proof to this, UC3. the week of UC3's launch the 3ds still outsold the ps3 neverless. I keep hearing ppl that are on the fence when it comes to the 3ds, some decided to finaly buy one at the launch of super mario 3d land, others waited for Kid Icarus, and some are still waiting for Kingdom Heart 3d or other games, and finaly some are waiting for the catalogue to expand even more. I have never heard of anyone saying ''hmm I've been waiting for that paticular game to finaly jump the fence and buy a ps3''. But yes, system sellers still exist for ps3, but they will boost the sales maybe up to 100 or 300k for the week, but it can never create a trend and sales will always come back to normal the week after that.
now, these are the system's sellers that could possibly affect the ps3's sales (and none of them and not even all of them combined would never make them go up to 30million like i've seen some ppl say, the sales will probably be comparable to last year's sales because ppl seem to forget that the ps3 had its share of system sellers in 2011). God of War4 would probably be its biggest system sellers, after that FFv13 IF it ever comes out would probably be huge especyaly in japan and finaly The last of Us (i think less than the 2 previous ones because of lack of brand recognition). theyr is probably more but I dont think theyr is any other game that could sell systems as much as these 3games, other exclusive would probably creat a sale boost but nothing rly huge (less than 100k for the week).
But 3DS also has it shares of system sellers, and like I said previously, these games would probably have a bigger and longer impact on a younger system like the 3DS. Paper Mario, Kingdom Heart 3D, Luigi's mansion, Animal Crossing and even the future 2 announced pokémon games for DS (Conquest and black/white2) could probably have a decent effect on the 3DS.
Ok, I'm aware that i just wrote a huge wall of text and I'm sorry for that, but for conclusion it would be crazy to rely on system sellers alone since both systems have they own share. Also a game like paper mario will probably IMO have a bigger and longer impact on the sales of the 3DS than GoW4 on PS3 because the system is much younger. Finaly theyr is still alot that we dont know that will be announced at E3 but i have a hard time imagining Sony rdy to reveal new games that would be rdy for 2012 that would have a bigger impact than GoW4 and Last of Us, meanwhile I think it would be easier for Nintendo to find games that would sell the 3DS even more than the games I previously mentioned (like a 2D mario game or a 3DS pokémon game or a donkey kong country or even a 3DS Zelda game altho I doubt we would see one for 2012). And if the 3DS continues outselling the PS3 like it has been for the last 4months (and I see no signs of anything turning around atm) the ps3 will need to seriously outsell the 3ds during the holydays (and we all know that most system sellers that we are or not aware of for both consoles will probably launch November/Decembre) but honestly I have a hard time imagining the 3DS being outsold by the PS3 during the holydays especyaly that most of the home consoles audience will probably have its attention on the Wii U (it depends of the price of both consoles during the holydays but lets be honest, its Christmas or Thxgiving and you want a brand new home console, what are you going to pick, the 6year old ps3 that you never bought till now and will probably have to be replaced by the ps4 in 1 or 2years or the brand new Wii U)
So to answer the OP, no the ps3 will not outsell the 3DS this year and IMO you need to be CRAZY to think that the 3DS NEEDS a 2d mario game to outsell the ps3. Plz lets be serious, the 3DS has been outselling ps3 for the last 5months w/o a 2D Mario and will most likely continue to outsell it for the next 5months w/o a 2D Mario. With no 2d mario I'd say theyr is a 90% chance that it outsell the ps3 for 2012, with a 2d mario (or a 3ds pokémon) 300% chances.
