A 2D Mario title is coming to the 3DS this fiscal year(April 2012 - March 2013). It's already been confirmed in case some didn't know. It might come this holiday season.

3DS doesn't need a 2D Mario to outsell the PS3. There are already titles already known to set it above and more to come at E3.
