I still don't think you understand. When playing multiplayer using one DS card the host sends out a signal that other DS's copies. The other DS's then have saved copies of demo versions of the game on its memory (which gets deleted once you turn the system off). Each DS has its own copy of the game and does its own processing. And since a DS is incapable of playing 3DS games due to hardware limitations, it can't play demo version of 3DS games either.

It's a silly business strategy since it won't make more people buy the 3DS to play with their friends which means less hardware sales, pretty simple actually. And no one expects to be able to play Xbox 360 games on an Xbox for instance (which tells how ridiculous this discussion really is).

The full copy of the game is not transmitted. Sure, for most games, a kind of cut down "demo version" game is transmitted, but that's not required, it will accept ANYTHING, you just need to send a streamer program as I said.

For a 360 you can plug in two controllers. Think of this as plugging a second controller into the 3DS, except that controller is a DS you already own.

Well, now try to imagine the lag you'd be having when playing 4 player games. However, the 3DS still isn't capable of streaming to one DS at a time anyway. Even the Wii U controller was having problems streaming early in development despite being dedicated to doing just that.

It's a complex procedure.

DS = 256x192

Wii U = 1920x1080

So it needs 1/42 of the data transmission rate. Much much less than Wii U. I don't know whether it the DS is capable of that but Wi-Fi as a technology certainly IS, especially at short range (I can stream 4 1080p streams from my router to my PC through walls, compressed, though I agree that isn't a great comparison).

There is already a Mario Tennis game for the Wii if you want it for a home console. New Play Control: Mario Power Tennis. It is a port of the Nintendo Gamecube game but it was still good fun.

As for the 3DS, it is another game that is gradually tempting me to get my own 3DS. The practice mode at the start of the video, with Mario hitting aganist the classic 2D Mario platform, all I can say is I'm amazed thats not been in a Mario Tennis game before.

There there is the sound and all digital input that has to go through the 3DS. Also, it would be extremely complex to give each system stereo sound based on each character's location throughout the map (stand close to explosion - loud sound, far away - low sound) if you see what I mean. That can be expanded to the fact that the 3DS would have to create different looking screens for each system as it really isn't splitscreen, but "multiscreen". It really is impossible.

I want it more then I thought I would. My 3DS library is already growing at an uncomfortable rate.

Sound is very low bandwidth compared to video. Parallel processing for several "screens" is done all the time in games, it's called surfaces in DirectX and the rendering just needs to be sent to the correct device.

Sure, it is hard, but impossible is really not the right word. The 3DS has the necessary hardware to do it, and "hard" is why one pays software engineers.

No, the 3DS most certainly isn't capable of doing that. Almost every game that use splitscreen has to cut down the performance of every screen (which may be graphics, textures, fog, FPS and such) to even manage. The 3DS wouldn't be able to make such sacrifices unless you want to go back to N64 quality.

MK7 runs at 60fps

So have 2 screens running at 30fps. This is what most console games do for multiplayer splitscreen.

I never say this, but I really don't want Nintendo to ruin the series with crappy motion controls.

New Play Control: Mario Power Tennis proved they can.
