No second 3DS to play with brother -> no purchase

Now if they bothered, they could use DS download play to a DS and have the 3DS do all the processing. But Nintendo don't ever do hard software things.

Right, because that would be technically feasible.

It would. Broadcast a signal compatible with DS download play, have the 3DS run the actual software (and rendering) and just use the DS as a screen and buttons.

That's not how it works. Download play means that the game-less DS's will download demo versions from the host and will then run the software by themselves.

Exactly, the program you give to the DS is one that accepts the computed result from the 3DS and displays it. The downloaded thing doesn't have to be the game.

Neither the DS nor the 3DS are able of doing any of that. And even if they were, that'd be a pretty silly business strategy.

:)

I know, it was an old video so I was just wondering which site is spawning this off as new.

Still not too many Mario Tennis 3DS threads here so I hope a lot of people in America view it.

Really? Nintendo uploaded this one day ago, which is why every website is talking about it. Isn't this never-before showcased footage?  O_O

I am messing around with you Mr. 1. I have nothing else to do but watch Dirty Dancing on ABC Family channel.

I know. That was a nice and respectful way of saying "you're wrong" ;)

The hardware is capable of it. The DS is programmed to recieve and execute arbitrary software from another "DS", so the 3DS has to pretend it's a DS and then send a modified program, but I don't see how it's impossible.

The reason why it would be a good business strategy is that 3DSs are rare, people don't know other people with a 3DS. But they do have DSs. So multiplayer games on the 3DS would appeal to more people if they knew that they could be played using one 3DS. It won't happen but I'm saying that is my condition for buying this thing, because I'm sure not going to buy a second 3DS just for this game.

I still don't think you understand. When playing multiplayer using one DS card the host sends out a signal that other DS's copies. The other DS's then have saved copies of demo versions of the game on its memory (which gets deleted once you turn off the system). Each DS has its own copy of the game and does its own processing. And since a DS is incapable of playing 3DS games due to hardware limitations, it can't play demo version of 3DS games either.

It's a silly business strategy since it won't make more people buy the 3DS to play with their friends which means less hardware sales, pretty simple actually. And no one expects to be able to play Xbox 360 games on an Xbox for instance (which tells how ridiculous this discussion really is).

Great to see you can customize a mii stat wise. Just a shame the adventure mode the GBC and GBA games were well known for was omitted.

I voted in the poll before actually watching the video...

After watching the trailer I really want it!

The full copy of the game is not transmitted. Sure, for most games, a kind of cut down "demo version" game is transmitted, but that's not required, it will accept ANYTHING, you just need to send a streamer program as I said. Look at the Game Boy link cable, I doubt even anything was transmitted, it was just using the second one as a screen and buttons.

For a 360 you can plug in two controllers. Think of this as plugging a second controller into the 3DS, except that controller is a DS you already own.

yes!!! 4ever Mario

Well, now try to imagine the lag you'd be having when playing 4 player games. However, the 3DS still isn't capable of streaming to one DS at a time anyway. Even the Wii U controller was having problems streaming early in development despite being dedicated to doing just that.

It's a complex procedure.
