Forums - Nintendo - Nintendo Don't deny Poor Wii U Spec

Wii U has a ways to go to prove itself to me. Not because it "may or may not" be underpowered, but because Nintendo has continued to offer me nothing for this entire generation. Zelda, and Xenoblade. Hooray :D

haha the damage control in this thread is hilarious!!!

OT: Of course they don't care about hardware but Third parties do and if the wii u isn't up to scratch with the other guys, Nintendo can say goodbye to 3rd party support like the wii.

Sorry for the double post, but I thought that I'd better point out that the main reason why the Wii didn't get a SKU of the big name multiplatform games and had to have games built from the ground up was that the Wii, thanks to the TEV Unit in the GPU, has a nonstandard rendering pipeline. It really didn't have a great deal to do with the power of the thing. If it had a standard rendering pipeline that used traditional programmable shaders then developers could have quite easily down ported it - there's a considerable difference in pixels between 480p and 720p and a down port of said multiplatform titles would be quite possible, albeit with greater and more frequent loading times, more pop-in, screen tearing and no AA.

The U won't have this problem when the PS4 and 720 are released for two reasons -

1) The U's GPU uses traditional programmable shaders

2) It's highly unlikely that Sony and Microsoft are going to release any sort of beast next gen, Sony are up shit creek as far as their finances goes and Microsoft are bound to release the 720 with Kinect 2.0

I don't think Nintendo cares to show its cards Nintendo also does not want to get graphic whores hopes up. Nintendo knows they don't want anyone to be dissapointed so they are not going to give any indication until the console is fully unveiled.

Nintendo is essentially saying no comment in a way that doesn't deny or confirm this way nobody will be dissapointed. It is always smart to keep expectations low so that you surprise and impress. I am still expecting 2x to 5x the power. It will be capable of running a 1080p game at 60fps. The Wii was slightly more powerful then the Xbox I suspect WiiU will be slightly more powerful then Wii was to Xbox. Nintendo will want to produce a real HD console.

Also judging by the recent hiring from CryTek I suspect Nintendo will have something impressive to show at E3. Also positive that WiiU can run BF3 at PC resolutions as well as titles like The Old Republic. The game console will not be the next high tech device but am pretty sure it will be able to run any new software released this year and likely in 2013.

Cant wait to see the hardware. Most likely 2.5x the power of 360 probably 2x the power of PS3 however times the power of 360 was.

It will be capable of running 1080p game at 60fps without "much use," of the controller. But if a game relies heavily on the controller it will  run a bit less.

ALL frame rate vriables are a factor of how much you throw at your system and how much it can handle.    Even the Wii could render a 1080p game at 60fps so long as the complexity of the on screen action is very minimal (provided the output resolution were not capped at 480p that is).

You can't say Wii U can't do 1080p and 60fps if the tablet screen is in heavy use as it is solely dependant on the game itself.  How complex the geometry is, how many shder operations are going on, how much AA is being applied.

E3 can't come soon enough!!

Wait until E3 then quote me of how an idiot I am. If it turns out to be true then I quote you as one.

I'm not quoting you as an idiot, I'm explaining how frame rates are not dependant on horsepower alone nor how many pixels it must render.

Just look at any video card review.  Notice how some games have frame rates near 100 and others drop to 30 at the same resolution?

The Wii U could render 1808p on the TV at 60 fps even with heavy use of the table tscreen.  it's all dependant on the geometry, shaders, AA and other factors.

I see what your saying but they will rely moreso on its sweet spot.

IF the Wii U is weaker than the PS360, then I'll:

- leave this site forever
-stop smoking pot

It's not happening.

It is funny how all of this is coming from sources in Europe which tend to overly emphasize technology specs.

Its a good thing that Nintendo does not direct all of its efforts to just "you". Because there a millions of gamers out there that are happy with what Nintendo offers. Oh well one less sale because of "you". I think Nintendo will do just fine without your sale.
