Forums - Nintendo - EVEN MORE Xenoblade reviews? Still looking promising!

GameTrailers review score:

9.3!

A very positive review text as well, perfectly summarised here:

"The game’s soundtrack is an instant classic, with dozens of memorable tracks that capture the sense of adventure and exploration. Don’t be surprised if you catch yourself more than once simply stopping to take in the scenic vistas and music--Xenoblade crafts an unforgettable world. There’s been a lot of talk lately about how Japanese RPGs are fading into irrelevancy with their increasingly linear designs, but Xenoblade delivers a world where you’re free to explore at your own pace that frequently entices you to indulge in its many extracurricular activities. This is easily one of the best games on the Wii, and one that you shouldn’t miss out on."

There's another 45 reviews available on Metacritic, which add up to an average of 92, one of the highest (if not the highest) JRPG ever released. So if anyone enjoys the genre even slightly, my advice would be to go out, and either buy it, or pre-order it ASAP! You probably won't regret it...

the highest I believe is Final Fantasy 9. at 94.

There's a fair amount of JRPG's (particularly from squaresoft at 92). But yes one of the highest.

not that metacritic means much, beings I think a fair amount of publishers buy reviews or something similar.

But, Xenoblade I doubt that's the case. It's an awesome game, and probably the best put together JRPG's in a while from a technical/story/music art design standpoint. (though not my favorite, I like 3 or 4 this gen more).

I'm hoping the game will stay above 90 after the American reviewers are all done with it. It would be an awesome feat for a jRPG.

"Naturally the common people don't want war: Neither in Russia, nor in England, nor for that matter in Germany. That is understood. But, after all, IT IS THE LEADERS of the country who determine the policy and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is TELL THEM THEY ARE BEING ATTACKED, and denounce the peacemakers for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. IT WORKS THE SAME IN ANY COUNTRY."  --Hermann Goering, leading Nazi party member, at the Nuremberg War Crime Trials

Conservatives:  Pushing for a small enough government to be a guest in your living room, or even better - your uterus.

Well, early reviews are positive at least! There's another review from Nintendo Power of 90. Which is another American publication giving it above 90%. So even with a couple of lower scores (7/10, lets say), it should still stay above. Also, Xenoblade is the highest rated JRPG of the gen, and also dating back to 1997. I can't go back any further, but it's 4 places higher than FF12 ATM, the previous highest for this time period that I can see...

Just checked actually, on Gamerankings it's the second highest, just behind Chrono Trigger and VERY NARROWLY ahead of FFIII:

Where it belongs I feel.

I'm on Twitter @DanneSandin!

Furthermore, I think VGChartz should add a "Like"-button.

As far as I'm aware, it's the same. But that doesn't matter because the voice acting is amazing anyway as can be seen in the video review), and you can just change to Japanese audio is you dislike it for some reason anyway.

Oh, that's good to hear! The few gameplay videos I've seen didn't have fantastic VA, but perhaps the cut scenes are much better?

Yeah, it takes a while to get used to the voices, but they are (bar one or two exceptions) top-notch. However, it is sometimes annoying how they shout out EVERYTHING they do all the time...
