I love it when a thread goes exactly as I predicted :D

People are far too defensive of PS3 games, I wish people would defend Nintendo and MS Ip's like this. On another thread I said 360 has a crap library of action adventure games and no one took arms.

I consider myself fairly reasonable, but I just can't stand when people call every new karting game a Mario Kart clone.  How can people not realize that Nintendo made a new racing subgenre and if you want to make a game within that subgenre it's going to look like Mario Kart to some extent.  But the idea that the grappling hook in LBP2 which released before MK7 is somehow being used to copy hang gliders in LBP karting, it's just so bad it hurts.  If you can assume those are copying I guess LBP Karting can't do anything with the kart off the ground because that'll be copying the glider too, and they probably shouldn't use weapons because that's copying, and the physics, I mean come on.  You have got to be kidding me.  Honestly it's such a stupid argument it hurts to read it.

So yeah PS3 fans can be too defensive, but you sure didn't help the matter.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HVi8AiwKn3k

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=acVEuue5wkw

i could post more but i think you get the point the only real difference i can see in terms of physics is the fact that you can jump in track on mario kart

None of those games resemble Super Mario Kart at all. Rad Racer is a fixed screen racer, where the track never rotates, and Outrun is more like Cruisin USA, a much different game

--

" What had them before Mario Kart Wii?"

here is one example from decades ago: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6xKwrGY413E

Yes this is true, but the nature is very different. Tricks are a main part of the game and implement a score, where Mario Kart they give you a boost.

--

" ??? This is not the same, Street Fighter is a fighting game from Capcom with their own characters. "

so technically you're saying that the only thing that makes it a clone so far is that sony chose to use their own characters in the game? how is that different from what you posted above?  "Street Fighter is a fighting game from Capcom with their own characters"

Does it involve a mash up from other Capcom brands? Are Chris Redfield and Mega Man fighters? It's a very different game, do you not understand?

--

"neither had kart customisation ( as far as i know They did, both of them"

no they didn't if i'm wrong post an example

"Wait, MNR had customizable Karts? I thought LBP was first to this"

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2dfcHkoYPd8&feature=relmfu

please demonstrate to me which mario kart before mk7 ( which came afterwards ) allows you to do anything even remotely like whats shown in the video

this pretty much sums up all of your posts so far... you have no knowledge of the things you speak on and make these ridiculous claims constantly

You get me here, but when I burn you I'm not being a meanie.

---

"laso's are being used nearly identically to MK7's hand gliders"

please read that again i mean even if you hadn't seen them both in action from the games... does that even sound remotely likely or sensible to you? doesn't it seem like a foolish thing to say? furthermore as i keep repeating the lasos ( they were called grappling hooks in lbp ) function exactly as they did in lbp ( which came before mk7 meaning that by your logic mk7 copied lbp )

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zRk4-nOg1-0

Just no, they could have implemented in more ways that are identical to MK7.

--

"all I started with was that this looked like a rip off on Mario Kart, then people started telling me MK is by far, not the best, and CTR was better (how that relates? I dunno, people are defensive of Sony IP's here by far too much)."

how is it not the same as you claiming mario kart is better?... regardless ctr was discussed even before you joined the discussion...

Why did people bring me into that? Everyone is entited to their own opinion.

" None of those games resemble Super Mario Kart at all"

the original point was about physics and in terms of physics they pretty much do imo ( furthermore i don't understand what track rotation in your context has to do with physics )

"the nature is very different. Tricks are a main part of the game and implement a score, where Mario Kart they give you a boost."

pretty much irrelevant to the point, which was if i understand correctly you trying to give the impression that mario kart was the first racing game with air tricks which is nonsense

"Does it involve a mash up from other Capcom brands? Are Chris Redfield and Mega Man fighters? It's a very different game, do you not understand?"

i guess i don't understand, the way i see it is that both companies use their characters for a fighting game, but thats me

"Just no, they could have implemented in more ways that are identical to MK7."

cool so i guess you're pretty much going to ignore the fact that the grappling hooks work the same exact way in lbp ( which came before mk 7 )

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zRk4-nOg1-0

imo i can't even fathom a situation where handgliders could be likened to grappling hooks but thats me but whatever

Looks good imo.

In your opinion

i can safely say that my opinion holds more weight than yours

You clearly misunderstood me for the Play, Creat Share concept. I am refering to Kart racing in general (Nintendo made it big with Mario Kart) and this idea is Sony's unique twist off Kart Racing (i.e. what makes LBP racing look different to Mario Kart. Hence a unique twist off Nintendo's Idea. Didn't dodge anything, and I'm being as clear as I can about this.

Why do you refer to that drift boost mechanic in Mario Kart as a Manual Speed Boost? It's so confusing. Anyway.

I never said MNR plays very very differently from Mario Kart, and yes LBP Kart isn't released yet, but like I said, from this video, it looks like a complete rip off. Where's the confusion?

CTR did create drift boosts, which MKDD copied, what's your point? I never said everything in Kart racing originated from Mario Kart. I only said I wish LBP was more original, something like CTR would have made a better game.

LBP laso techniques could have been implemented in ways not identical to MK7. LBP had more then just swinging abilities with the laso.

I'm really confused, you read my very logical points, and just don't understand them. How do you not see the similarities and refuse to accept the game looks like a clone? Are you just in denial, or just can't accept my opinion.

you don't have to think LBP Kart is a rip off of Mario Kart. I never told you to, I only said this looks like one. Why you're making this a big deal.... I dunno.

You ->"similar acceleration and cornering performance look like every other Kart game with different characters to me"

So.....every kart racer looks like the Mario Kart Formula Nintendo made? What about Diddy Kong Racing/Banjo Pilot, what about Chocobo Racing? Those games are drastically different in structure and gameplay....wow is everything just a Mario Kart clone to you, to the point you can't tell them apart?....scratching barrel.....then why does my opinion matter if everything is a rip off of the gameplay Nintendo started????????????.....barrel...explodes.

-----

Me->These games are all very different from Mario Kart, far more different then LBP, you can't deny that. I just wish Sony followed their own formula.

You->so since you say that LBP is far more different i guess it is safe to say that you are admitting that it is different from Mario Kart

-----Back to me----

You...need to re-read that. Chocobo Racing and DKC look very different from MK, where LBP Kart looks very similar. That's not at all what you interpreted.

Boost extendors are flight extendors. Mario Kart 7 is the only Kart racer to have them now (handgliders and submarines), and LBP Kart is copying that.....DKR and Crash never had this feature. Common, enough with the bs comments, re-read what I posted if you don't understand what I said.

----

Me->Not the point, the point is, it's not a rip off like LBP here.

you->that's not a point because LBP had lasos in its games before this game was announced

----Back to me---

Laso's in LBP were used more to then just swing. in LBPK they are not, and only mimic the application of MK7.

-------

Your opinion, but again I say shortcuts ruin the game

yup and your opinion is a VAST minority. as a matter of fact.....

---Back to me---

My opinion is a vast minority, that's why Mario Kart, a game without many shortcuts, typically outsells every other Kart racer by huge margins?
Please, when you take your opinion and use it as fact (literally)....you just present no arguement. I expect a little intelligence here, don't expand your opinion as the opinion of the majority. Like I said I have never heard anyone say CTR is better then Mario Kart, and I never heard anyone say shortcuts make the game.

If Shortcuts make the game, why don't games like Top Gear Overdrive and F.A.S.T. sell well?

It's only ME who complains about shortcuts? I think it's only you who loves them so much.

You -> "i can safely say that my opinion holds more weight than yours."

Yep...arguement is over. Your opinion is valid as fact, and no one else in the world can have a different one. Forget Mario Kart sells to 1 in 3 Wii owners, it's got no backbone.

Seriously I advise you read my post twice, you're merging separate arguements (LBPK and Sony smash Clone are separate arguements relating to separate points) and making brand new ones up, and at the same time ignoring my points all together.

In the end

It's really a matter of opinion. I think LBP Kart is a big rip off of Mario Kart 7, not everyone will.
On a separate note I think shortcuts ruin racing games, and like most people, I think Mario Kart is the best Kart racer around.

Feel free to have a different opinion, just don't say your opinions are facts.

No they don't, these are completly different games, Rad Racer doesn't even have rotating tracks and represents a very very different style of gameplay we don't see anymore. When I refer to physics I am talking about game dynamics, Rad Racer has a fixed screen which you always go into, very different from anything nowdays. Outrun is also not an item based arcade racer, it's more like Cruising USA.

"the nature is very different. Tricks are a main part of the game and implement a score, where Mario Kart they give you a boost."

It's not, but it's implemented very differently from ATV Off-Road fury.

"Does it involve a mash up from other Capcom brands? Are Chris Redfield and Mega Man fighters? It's a very different game, do you not understand?"

i guess i don't understand, the way i see it is that both companies use their characters for a fighting game, but thats me

Smash Bros is a ...well Smash fighter, with characters from different IP's within the Nintendo brand. Street Fighter, like Mortal Kombat and Killer Instinct, all have their own characters unique to that games universe (no characters from different IP's). Dead or Alive is a hybrid of a Smash fighter and a regular fighter as some characters are imported from other IP's. Sony's fighter is a close of Smash Bros.

"Just no, they could have implemented in more ways that are identical to MK7."

Grappling hooks in LBPK are used only to swing the driver to cross a larger gap (exactly how hand gliders are used to make the racer cross a larger gap). In LBP grappling hooks were also used to pull you closer to objects (in that video on a boat). They were also used to pull you towards other players.

Why are those gameplay mechanics of LBP not implemented in LBPK and only those which imitate Mario Kart 7?

Yes, they swallowed it.”

What am I suppose to do when my opinions are overweighed by the opinions of other individuals? Every time I give the slightest insult to any PS3 exclusive, individuals will try to discredit my opinion, or literally say their opinion is more accurate. Did that not happen here?

Not every Kart racer is a close of Mario Kart, but when I saw that LBPK trailer it sure looked a lot like Mario Kart 7. MNR I would argue is different enough not to be a MK clone, but a compeditor.

As for the grappling hook, it's used in more applications then just swinging in LBP2, but in LBP Kart it isn't. It should be. If I see Sackboy using it to help him corner or pull people out of his way, then I will change my opinion about the grappling hook, but the way I see it now, Sony tried to make this like MK7.

Guess since it's within the Kart subgenre, the physics will always bee similar, but why does every kart racer now have to have dashing turns, and other goodies from MK? Wish there was more variation in this subgenre, like Diddy Kong Racing.

oh no no michael :D I'm not gonna get into all this drama with you. I will say two things however to clarify

I was in this thread way before you came in lol as you may notice I spend pretty much all my time in the sony section. So pls..don't be so full of yourself (Plea gone unheard I'm sure)

kz? lol son I know who you are and what you do. If you think what I say about you is based on kz alone then you are being delusional. And I told enditall EXACTLY how this thread will go if he started a 'discussion' with you. and you pretty much proved my exact words.

anywho by all means continue..I find this drama to be amusing :)
