Forums - Sony - LittleBigPlanet Karting to launch this year on PS3, first video

Why didn't ModNation become as popular as Sony thought it would? I mean, i'm not a super huge racing fan, but i really loved the customization in MNR. The fact that i could race around dressed up as a Shinra grunt with a Shinra logo on my car is awesome lol. Though i admit, the loading times were ridiculous. Still though, i think it's a pretty damn good game.

Lol yea, does Sony really need two highly modifiable Kart racers? Think that's too much for the casual fanbase.

Also while I'm not a fan of CTR (It's like Mario Kart/Diddy Kong Racing with shortcuts (which suck), and less imaginative track designs (both physical and artistic), I think Sony should bring a more serious kart racer on the table instead of two....easy ones (I think Mario Kart has been too dumbed down lately too).

This I think is a great idea. I know it's a copy off Mario Kart, but it's got its own unique twist. If I weren't such a Nintendo nut, I'd be very interested in this. Creating my own tracks and hards...could be cool, especially if it's as polished as LBP1 & 2.

However with the Sony Smash Fighter also in progress....I think Sony should get their own freaken idea's. Uncharted is one of the best franchises this gen, it's unique.

the "play, create, share" genre says hello to this lol

That seems more like a unique twist off Nintendo's Idea.

I mean just look at the video, doesn't it look like Mario Kart 7? Sure there are no hand-gliders, but the drivers have laso's to make them swing bigger gaps, and both games have air tricks.

Just with this and the upcoming Smash Brothers clone, it seems Sony is trying to expand their library by copying Nintendo.

"seems more like a unique twist off Nintendo's Idea"

what idea specifically?

"the drivers have laso's to make them swing bigger gaps"

lasos came from the original lbp games...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zRk4-nOg1-0

"both games have air tricks"

modnation had air tricks and it came out before mk7 and seeing as how this game builds upon modanation i'd expect the air tricks came from that as opposed to mk7

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dEsmvWs7d3E&feature=related

"the upcoming Smash Brothers clone"

the game hasn't been announced yet and furthermore if the rumours are true how does it automatically become a clone?

... i find it funny though how when mk7 was shown to have kart customisation no one said that they may have gotten the idea from modnation, but i guess thats how things work as nintendo is apparently the only company to come up with anything

???

what idea? Nintendo has never made a new game genre anything like "Play, Create, Share" for you to say that..

basically you just low-key tried to say that Sony copied Nintendo with their "Play,Create,Share" genre -_-

but what Nintendo "idea" are you talking about though?

i'm curious..

I mean just look at the video, doesn't it look like Mario Kart 7?

uhh no, it looks like "Little Big Planet Karting"

i mean maybe it does when you see characters riding on karts and racing. I mean that IS what you do in a KART RACING game lmao

and by this logic i can also say that it looks like chocobo racing, Bomberman Fantasy Race, Diddy Kong Racing, MegaMan Battle & Chase and every other kart game that has ever been created ;)

so what is the significance in trying to single everything else out and trying to focus on it "looking" like Mario Kart 7 specifically?

Just with this and the upcoming Smash Brothers clone, it seems Sony is trying to expand their library by copying Nintendo

lol Sony make a Kart game and now they are trying to expand their library by copying Nintendo? LMAO

Sony had kart games on their consoles BEFORE LBPKarting was announced my good sir ;)

and i honestly HOPE the Sony fighting game is like Smash bros . If Sony somehow manages to make a better game than smash bros then it will make Smash Bros a better game in the end because Nintendo will of ccourse try to outdue the Sony smah bros game with their smash bros release

somebody PLEASE tell me that this guy did not just try to criticise CTR for having shortcuts LMFAO!!

CTR is BETTER than both Mario Kart 64 AND Diddy Kong racing

Mario Kart 64 AND Diddy Kong racing both had shortcuts but of course you just want to single out CTR for some strange reason for it having shortcuts though LMAO

so you REALLY shouldnt be a fan of them aswell going by that..

hmm would the game being made by Sony have something to do with it? ;)

is it safe to say that i think i have you figured out now or would i be jumping the gun?

and WHO THE HELL doesn't like shortcuts in a racing game anyways? lol

and less imaginative track designs (both physical and artistic)

i would argue that CTR's tracks are more imaginative artistically AND physically

the tracks are more well put together than the tracks in Mario Kart 64 and Diddy Kong racing

they also have more detail and look better aswell despite 64 having better graphics than ps1

;)

I think Sony should bring a more serious kart racer on the table instead of two....easy ones (I think Mario Kart has been too dumbed down lately too)

all they have to do is make this game like CTR and it will be a BEAST ass game

Imagine a Kart racer like CTR made by Naughty Gods again with all PlayStation characters, I can't wait for it to happen! Solid Snake, Kratos, Nathan Drake, Sackboy, Jak, Cole Mcgrath, Tidus, Cloud etc going against each other!

Btw, I hope the Sony Smash Bros game is hopefully true too :)

Around the Network

It looks very good, I may get it..

looks good. I think that there doing this, because modnation wasn't as big as they thought it was going 2 be.

Holy crap so want!!!

This looks so much fun!!!!!

"seems more like a unique twist off Nintendo's Idea"

what idea specifically?

The whole Kart Racing physics look awefully similar to Mario Kart.

"the drivers have laso's to make them swing bigger gaps"

lasos came from the original lbp games...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zRk4-nOg1-0

Yes, but they were included in a way most similar to Mario Kart 7. Sony easily could have made them weapons, or methods of cornering better/differently, but noo...they had to make it like MK7.

"both games have air tricks"

modnation had air tricks and it came out before mk7 and seeing as how this game builds upon modanation i'd expect the air tricks came from that as opposed to mk7

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dEsmvWs7d3E&feature=related

But it came out after Mario Kart Wii, which is where Air Tricks comes from.

"the upcoming Smash Brothers clone"

the game hasn't been announced yet and furthermore if the rumours are true how does it automatically become a clone?

What other game uses IP's from their franchise in a Smash em up title? Capcom always faces someone else (Marvel or whatnot) and everything I hear about this game seems like a Smash Bros immitation. Only time will tell, but I felt it's worth noting this game

... i find it funny though how when mk7 was shown to have kart customisation no one said that they may have gotten the idea from modnation, but i guess thats how things work as nintendo is apparently the only company to come up with anything

Again, Mario Kart Double Dash and Mario Kart Wii beat Mod Nation Racers to this. However the way LBP is doing it, I would say is different enough to be unique. Just the gameplay....damnrip off from the video in the OP if you ask me.

Really....now Mario Kart's status is being questioned by Crash Team and LBP? What? What? What? Makes no sense, you people need to play more then just Sony games.

This is the one part where I think LBP Kart is unique. The rest is a rip off.

basically you just low-key tried to say that Sony copied Nintendo with their "Play,Create,Share" genre -_-

Words in my mouth, I was commenting on the overall structure of the game. Laso's, Kart size and physics, battle mode, etc.

but what Nintendo "idea" are you talking about though?

Answered in other post

i'm curious..

uhh no, it looks like "Little Big Planet Karting"

Not to me

i mean maybe it does when you see characters riding on karts and racing. I mean that IS what you do in a KART RACING game lmao

Does Sony have to use an engine this similar to Mario Kart, with dash corners, laso's and even the kart size and physics?

and by this logic i can also say that it looks like chocobo racing, Bomberman Fantasy Race, Diddy Kong Racing, MegaMan Battle & Chase and every other kart game that has ever been created ;)

Never played half of those, so I wouldn't know. However don't you race Chocobo's in Chocobo Racing? Do all those games have boost turns and jump extendors? Diddy Kong was different from MK64 by having planes and hovercrafts, an adventure mode, and overall very different level and item design.

so what is the significance in trying to single everything else out and trying to focus on it "looking" like Mario Kart 7 specifically?

Already responded in other post.

Yes, and you're point> Mario Kart is still the oldest.

and i honestly HOPE the Sony fighting game is like Smash bros . If Sony somehow manages to make a better game than smash bros then it will make Smash Bros a better game in the end because Nintendo will of ccourse try to outdue the Sony smah bros game with their smash bros release

Competition is great, I agree. With a Kart game, you likely won't see much of a quality change because of the demograph, but Smash Bros has a bigger hardcore base (by % I assume), so if the PS3 Smash compeditor is good, Nintendo will up their game.

...The worst maps in Mario Kart are the ones with major shortcuts. Why race on the track if everyone is going to try to use them? What makes Crash even worse is most shortcuts can be reached without the use of special items. Makes the map design feel poor if you ask me.

CTR is BETTER than both Mario Kart 64 AND Diddy Kong racing

Everyone has an opinion, but 30+ million people seem to think Mario Kart Wii is the best

Mario Kart 64 AND Diddy Kong racing both had shortcuts but of course you just want to single out CTR for some strange reason for it having shortcuts though LMAO

Worst Maps in MK64, and generally points of bad level design (rainbow road) or item requirements (Koopa Beach). Diddy Kong shortcuts were nowhere nearly as major as Crash, and depended on the vehicle you raced in.

so you REALLY shouldnt be a fan of them aswell going by that..

hmm would the game being made by Sony have something to do with it? ;)

I like many Sony games, however just the unique ones like Uncharted and InFamous.

is it safe to say that i think i have you figured out now or would i be jumping the gun?

and WHO THE HELL doesn't like shortcuts in a racing game anyways? lol

Who does? Really? seriously?

the tracks are more well put together than the tracks in Mario Kart 64 and Diddy Kong racing

they also have more detail and look better aswell despite 64 having better graphics than ps1

;)

The track in the video was a temple and forest, it's texture lacking and balnd....however I will agree for the technical limitation CTR is pretty awesome, but MK64 was an early N64 game, and CTR came out near the end of PS1's life.

I think Sony should bring a more serious kart racer on the table instead of two....easy ones (I think Mario Kart has been too dumbed down lately too)

all they have to do is make this game like CTR and it will be a BEAST ass game

would be better then an MK clone. However I think DKR and old MK's are better. Mario Kart DS is probably the best Kart game ever, really amazing level design.
