How would you change the PS Vita hardware design?

I think the overall hardware design is great. The analog sticks are excellent, the glass front and oval shape are attractive. The overall size is perfect.

I think a few changes are needed to make it excellent though.

1) The silver plastic that goes around the Vita needs to go...it should be aluminum.

2) I really do not like the back camera...it sticks out and is a bit ugly. That should be flush...or the angles of the plastic around it smoothed.

3) I dont really mind the black curved plastic of the back --the plastic in between the silver wrap and the back touch pad--  but I would prefer that to be aluminum, too. But I could live without this.

4) The plastic that is in between the glass and the buttons/Dpad seems cheap, would prefer if the whole front was made of glass...except for the Dpad and buttons, of course.

5) A lock switch...that turns off the buttons.

6) A bit thinner overall would be nice. But not if the battery life is affected.

7) The two indentions on the bottom of the back, I tend to put my pinky fingers in there when playing, but they arent exactly made for that purpose and after a while my pinky fingers get sore from the plastic edge. Would be nice if the indentions were angled down a bit and the edges smoothed.

it should fit more like a controller, that way it's more comfortable. my hands are big, my longest fimgure is like 5".

You should be able to push in the analog sticks so it fits in your pocket.

The analog sticks are tinier than I thought they would be. :( Super crazy small. Way too miniscule. Take a dual shock controller, extend it, and add a screen of the same size. Now that would be a good handheld.

I am used to the tiny analog sticks...it took some time though. When I switch from playing the Vita to the Dualshock, it takes me a few minutes to adjust, because the Dualshock analog sticks feel too big.

Id get rid of the back touch, i think its a bit pointless and the back touch isn't even the same size as the front screen so its not 1 to 1 if you need to touch something that's near the edge

And it would have been great if the resolution was slightly more higher like maybe in the 600s cause 544p you can still see some jaggies (especially in uncharted)

other then that it's pretty much perfect and what i said was really nit picking anyway

Ya...I could do without the back touch, but I will give it a year of games before decding if it is useless or not. Also, I think the reason for the 544 is because the PSP was 272 (272 +272 = 544)...this helps with upscaling the PSP games, I think. So the next step had to 544 or Sony could have quadrupled the PSP lines all the way up to 1088...which would have been nice!

i just thought i should mention that an aluminum siding would hurt the signal strength of any connections made with the vita. the only phone that i can think that featured any kind of aluminum siding was the iphone, and the version (which was their first btw) with the aluminum only stayed on the market for about six months, to be replaced with plastic.

you cant even use the cheaper stainless steel with mobile devices that use any magnets, as its magnetic. if sony wanted to pony up the money they could use true s/steel, but i doubt its going to happen, at least anytime soon. maybe in a 3rd or 4th iteration when cost has dropped across the board. but even then, i dont think they would want to be stuck with a higher cost material

I don't know how, but I would find a way to make it possible to use the d-pad without touching the analogue stick...

And... of course... I would make those sticks better... I just keep on losing grip while I'm playing.

Other than that, it's perfect like it is right now.

It needs to be bigger. It sometimes moves into a diagonal or even horizontal position in my pocket. I don't like that.

Higher screen rez would have been nice. Jaggies are noticable.

Save files on cart and system... Still don't get why some games need memstick on a cartridge based system...

Rear-Touch 1:1 with front screen. I was honestly expecting this... surprised that wasn't the case.

Thumbsticks positioned a bit lower, or face-buttons a bit higher.

Concave tops for the sticks.
