Time for some Chartz...

Week Nintendo 3DS Playstation Vita 3DS - PSV =
1 374,164 322,488 51,676
2 208,497 74,104 134,393
3 100,739 41,640 59,099
4 63,358 39,795 23,653
5 52,841 17,031 35,810
6 43,208 14,068 29,140
7 32,933 18,636 14,297
8 26,866 17,031 9,835
9 22,223 14,400 7,823
10 26,953 11,510 14,644
11 27,711
11,034
16,677
12 17,404 10,208 7,196
13 16,903 10,041 (Media Create) 6,862
  1,013,800 601,896 411,904

Next Week the 3DS hits 23,712 units sold.

So 3DS hit a million in Japan 13 weeks in. I wonder how long it'll take the PSV to hit that mark?

Very interesting numbers. As for your question, I'll make one of my uneducated guess and go with Week 40.

And from this point onwards, the 3DS started to rise when it during between late may and early july... no signs for Vita on the other hand

Yes, March is not even the slowest month of the year, Vita will be sub 8k for sure. Even a 200% rise after that will mean nothing, and 200% rises are difficult to get!

There won't be literally no games coming out for Vita in the following months though, there will be at least small boosts (do'nt quote me on that- I have no idea what Vita games are coming up in Japan)

There will be 2 games worth noting, I think, in the following 2 months... Little Busters and Ciel no Surge, and I don't know if any of those could raise Vita more than 3k, to be honest. 5k max, imo. But there's a good chance something huge is announced in Captivate next month that would really help sales (you-know-what)

It's Negative Nancy Time!

Something most of those 3DS games have in common? Either they sold less than expected (Hatsune Miku and MGS3), or they have double digit percentage drops. The 3DS still only seems to have the same three big sellers. It's doing fine for now, but I wonder what will happen when we go for a few weeks with no big hits.

Fighting Games are a dying breed in Japan. That much is obvious. The only fighters that did very well these past few years were crossover things like Jump Super Stars and Smash Bros.

Girl's RPG kind of bombed.

Honestly, only two platforms are not embarassing themselves at this point. You have to give the PSP a break, since it's been replaced, and at least the Wii is getting a successor this year. The Vita? Poor thing was named ironically. Even if it's reach stability, 10,000 a week is nothing to write home about.

I wonder if the 8th generation in Japan will only have one notable console and handheld each. The market doesn't seem big enough for much more than that. If anything, Nintendo has the upper hand. The 3DS is currently in the lead of course. If the Wii U is only somewhat more powerful than the current gen systems, then development costs won't rise too much, giving Japanese-oriented games a chance to still make profits.

Love and tolerate.

Last year the 3DS got One Piece, Resident Evil, Zelda, tales and other games that opened at 40-50k+ with some different colors. During July it shot up to around 35-45k/ week average which is actually a decent number. But these games were appearing on COMG preorder site. Problem is appearing for the PSV, and even if something does, I don't think there will be a 100k seller for weeks... 3rd party party developers are holding back, and I think like the 3DS, it's in desperate need for a pricecut

Did the Japanese suddenly stop buying fighting games?
Soul Calibur V did horrible, Tekken 3DS blew up and Street Fighter X Tekken doesn't exactly look good. Where all these games bad or what's happening?

The problem is the quality of these games.

You almost conviced me until I saw that One Piece is still on top.

You can not like the Dynasty Warriors franchise but it is good... Famitsu give it 36/40 the highest Dynasty Warriors or One Piece's game score ever.

lol yeah Famitsu...

I was actually talking about users reviews from Amazon, which are horrible for the most part.

Makes FFXIII and XIII-2 look like GOTY.

I mean....

Surprised Hatsune Miku didn't pass 100k, it looked like a guaranty.

Everything else looks about as expected, wonder if One Piece will be able to leg past 1M in Japan.

so what ?

PS3 scores are so low because of the save game file size issue and not because it's a western game.

One Piece retains #1!
PS2 > 360
SF x TK debuts at #3. Numbers a bit low aren't they?

3DS almost 7x Vita

But my theory is that PS2s bought are because they are now marketed as "PS3 backwards compatibility accessory" since PS3 cant directly play PS2 games :P

Xbox: Best hardware, Game Pass best value, best BC, more 1st party genres and multiplayer titles.

Front page has been updated and shows Vita under 10k....who's right?

Vita needs Monster Hunter.

Numbers in front page are from last week. Still, difference is not that big. MC had PSV with 10.023 units last week.

I agree that the difference is not that large on paper. But people seem to put a lot of weight into that "10,000 or less" threshold.
