It's Negative Nancy Time!

Something most of those 3DS games have in common? Either they sold less than expected (Hatsune Miku and MGS3), or they have double digit percentage drops. The 3DS still only seems to have the same three big sellers. It's doing fine for now, but I wonder what will happen when we go for a few weeks with no big hits.

Fighting Games are a dying breed in Japan. That much is obvious. The only fighters that did very well these past few years were crossover things like Jump Super Stars and Smash Bros.

Girl's RPG kind of bombed.

Honestly, only two platforms are not embarassing themselves at this point. You have to give the PSP a break, since it's been replaced, and at least the Wii is getting a successor this year. The Vita? Poor thing was named ironically. Even if it's reach stability, 10,000 a week is nothing to write home about.

I wonder if the 8th generation in Japan will only have one notable console and handheld each. The market doesn't seem big enough for much more than that. If anything, Nintendo has the upper hand. The 3DS is currently in the lead of course. If the Wii U is only somewhat more powerful than the current gen systems, then development costs won't rise too much, giving Japanese-oriented games a chance to still make profits.
