Nintendo is simply excluded because they managed to keep the quality. Same is true (to a slightly lesser extent) for Capcom. But then ?
Some very popular and critically acclaimed Japanese gaming series are dying in case of sales, quality or even both.

Pro Evolution Soccer
Final Fantasy
Kingdom Hearts
Tekken
Soul Calibur
Dragon Ball Z fighting games

Well you get the idea.

1)Pro Evolution Soccer - Competition from FIFA
2)Final Fantasy - True. But after more than a dozen Final Fantasy games, it was bound to get stale.
3)Kingdom Hearts - Disney + Final Fantasy. Many people dont even remember Mickey Mouse anymore.
4)Tekken - Too much competition in this genre. and with Capcom milking Street Fighter with super and ultimate editions, it damaged the whole genre.
5)Soul Calibur - Same thing as Tekken.
6)Dragon Ball Z fighting games - DBZ was over a long time ago. These games are being based on the same old story. People aren't going to keep buying the games when there are plenty of new anime they would rather see made into a game.

1) FIFA was always there and always big. PES lost sales and quality since PES 2008. FIFA gained sales and quality.
2) Sales of XIII are excellent, quality apparently for most not so much (excluding Boutros and myself), XIII-2 also failed sales wise. Versus is nowhere to be seen.
3) no true sequel. Handheld games which aren't bad and have decent sales, but don't quite reach KH and KH2
4) The sales of Tekken 6 aren't actually so bad, but the quality dropped quite a bit, plus it was a rather late arcade port.
5) Soul Calibur IV has great sales and is also quite a good game, but they dropped the ball with SCV. A sequel that no one needed.
6) Okay but why the drop in quality then ?

Even though there is competition among the fighters, they pretty much all have just as high sales as the fighters last gen. Doesn't stop them from being disappointments though.

I think the title is wrong, the guy didn't "leave", he stuck around and took all the comments aimed at him and by the sound of things, it comes across as if they are heaping the whole Japanese situation on this one guy...

PS One/2/p/3slim/Vita owner. I survived the Apocalyps3/Collaps3 and all I got was this lousy signature.

So the Japanese dude who was in a place full of foreigners being polite to the guy and praising his game and movie suddenly gets a "I think your games just suck" from him? must have been embarrassing.

How many games has this guy released? if he thinks Japanese games suck, then he must think his games are better than all Japanese games... unless he knew he was developing a total piece of shit.

By the way, my opinion on games is totally different from his, I think it's the western developed games that (mostly) suck with a few exceptions here and there but that's me. My collection consists mostly of Japanese developed games.

I don't know why people think Western games have gotten better this gen. I think that they're the same they were last gen, it's just that they jumped from PCs to consoles and the media likes to focus on these games but the quality remains the same... maybe they've even been "consolised" in their jump from PCs to consoles to fit the audience and the controllers instead of keyboard + mouse so it could be argued that Western games have gone down in quality during this gen.

Not tryn to sound like hater or anything, but the majority of Japanese game that were released over the last few years have sucked ass.

That's exactly what I think about Western games, in fact I think there isn't a single Western game this year that interests me. We have different tastes.

A banner stolen from some site xD

Release Final Fantasy Versus XIII nowwwwwwwwww!!! lol :P

There are two main problems with the Japanese video game industry:

1) They are playing by the rules of the Western publishers, even though Nintendo showed time and time again that this is not necessary.
2) They believe they always have to do something crazy new.

Number 1 is solved by sidestepping, i.e. put most, if not all, of your weight on Nintendo platforms where the Japanese style can thrive. This should have already been done five years ago though.

Number 2 is solved by leaving established IPs alone and refining them instead of shaking them up. That's the one major point where the East doesn't try to emulate the West. All the West really does is putting out one sequel after another and new IPs are generally rip-offs of established concepts.

The Western development process doesn't suit the East. With PC games migrating to consoles, the East is facing new challenges. That is, on the consoles where these PC games migrated to. Hence why placing their bets on Nintendo would be a good idea, but if they do this, they all need to do it and they need to be serious about it. Not putting out some crazy experiments and halfassed spinoffs.

There are still some kickass Japanese games nowadays, but they are getting fewer.

Upon rereading this, it is quite incoherent. Third parties betting on Nintendo might sound like suicide, but the video game industry also said this to Nintendo when they created the Wii. And I better go to bed now.

I didn't find this incoherent at all. It was interesting. Not sure how true, but insightful nonetheless.

Street Fighter IV got excelent scores though and as far as I know audience loved it also.

trolling statement ? Yes
truth ? not quite but hardly false IMO

As a moderator on this site want to give some statements as to how stating ''your [all Japanese] games just suck'' is hardly false? Because I would say that is teetering on trolling, in fact you even state it is trolling then agree with it.

For every single point you make about how all Japanese games now suck I will give you a Japanese game with over 80% on metacritic from the last few years.

There are still VAST amounts of high quality games coming out of Japan. Both the Western and Japanese industry also put out a lot of rubbish. The only reason I have EVER seen given for all Japanese games sucking is quite simply that people have got used to the Western style of gritty style + Go here and press this and you will be awesome. When presented with something liek Vanquish which is highly stylized and where you are only going to be awesome after learning the game and getting good at it they simply think it sucks.

"hardly" because the main idea of his statement is (IMO) true and that is that Japanese games have declined in quality.
80% games are fine and all but when the previous games in a series have all managed to get 90% or more and the current gen version gets 80% I would definitely call it a quality decrease. Furthermore there is also a lack of quantity compared to last gen.
For the rest read my previous posts here.

Japanese games suck, pure and simple. See, a good game is CoD or Battlefield. Story doesnt matter any more, and thats the only thing the japanese are good at. That and tenticle penis. To be a good game, you need lots of 'splosions and online multiplayer. You see, Americans dont want to think when we play games, we just want to burn things, kill things, and yell at strangers over the interwebs.

Or we want weird indie games with SNES graphics so that we can tell our friends we are more hipster than they are.

Basically the Japanese can't make a good online shooter, so the entire country is finished, thats why jebus made that earthquake happened and the Nukular reactor sploded, cuz the japeneses arent making enough shooters.

If that is the case basing quality purely on sales then that would mean Microsoft released a high quality system while Sony released a problem plagued system.  However, that isn't the case because it was the price factor more than reliability or quality.  The 360 was a downgrade in quality over Microsoft's previous system while Sony vastly improved their system's quality over the PS1/2.  Sorry I had to take your idea and apply it to systems sold.

Totally uncalled for. (Unless that guy was Kojima.)
