Forums - General - What do foreigners think of the United States of America?

A foreigner has many false stereotypes of the American people. Stereotypes portrayed in TV shows, movies and music videos. Americans are typically stereotyped as: individualistic cowboys, greedy, selfish, lazy and uneducated.

The false stereotypes of the average American needs to be questioned by the foreigner and the only way to do that is to visit the US for a holiday and experience life in  US.

Christians.

Lots and lots of Christians.

...Also a couple of atheists who've got no party to vote for. Democracy at its best.

What where lol

All I see are a bunch of people who pretend to promote God but in reality pray to Money rather than to God.

You make it sound like the two are mutually exclusive. The modern conservative movement in America was based off of the idea that they weren't.

USA:

Fat
East/West Coast + Hillbillies
Gangsta/Lowrider
Hipster+Hybrid
Gun fanatics + religious nutjobs
Crystal Meth
Cheerleader
War
Trailerpark

Americas was founded by a group of Free Masons that believed in the virtues of Liberty, Freedom and Individualism. America was not established as a Christian nation, it was Free Masons that established the US government and the new free America. Americans were brave to stand up and declare war against the British monarchy in the late 18th century and fight for its freedom, liberty and independence.

hmm...
Americans love guns, war, church, Oprah, fast food, the national flag and their three big sports, but probably thats just what tv and movies portrait.

Funny fact, In Costa Rica we see US girls as wild sex-hungry girls. Maybe the sun or the climate toast their brains when they come here. I used to live near the beach, and man, any costarican can tell I am not lying, your girls go wild here and big time... And we welcome them very much.

Well driving back from a Soccer match in Seattle I was fingered by 3 different cars because of my Canadian license plate which gives me one perspective of Americans, but another time some random stranger offered to pay for my orange juice at a gas station because the station wouldn't accept my "debit card" (which is actually a credit card in Canada lol). So you have some good and bad people just like anywhere else, but when I think of America I usually think of their media and how they help brainwash people for the government and the big corporations. Not all people of course, but a pretty substantial group. Enough to have an impact on their politics at least.

I was walking down along the street and I heard this voice saying, "Good evening, Mr. Dowd." Well, I turned around and here was this big six-foot rabbit leaning up against a lamp-post. Well, I thought nothing of that because when you've lived in a town as long as I've lived in this one, you get used to the fact that everybody knows your name.

The dichotomy between the the outward projection of the glory of America and American values and the real, shameful, state of affairs in the country.

It's a shame, because so much good goes on there too.

ok first ten things which come to my mind:

great movie industry
great music industry
way too much patriotism
stupid weapon laws
lol fastfood
good muscle cars but other cars are not so good or at least ugly
uneducated if it comes to other countries, geographics and so on but i believe the rest isn't worse
most important pc and internet companies
i believe (but i don't know if it's true) it's still hard to be a black in many parts of usa
asshole politicians (even more than here and ours are idiots as well) i mean, it really seems like some of them really love to make war and always look out for the next war ground

The general steriotype is fat, little knowledge of the outside world and a belief that if its not American its not worth knowing about. From my experience though when i went to Florida the people were friendly easy to chat to. Only problem was everytime i said i was from the UK everyone assumed i was from London. The U.S. does have some great tv and music too.

Why thank you!

You should actually know that most of that is a lie. xD Most people in Florida are very rude. We all think we always have to be somewhere (which is mostly true.) Most of us don't really like tourists. (I think that happens in most places though.) And the drivers are really mean. xD Florida is almost like the California of the East.
