Forums - General - What do foreigners think of the United States of America?

joora on 08 March 2012

I could sum my view of USA in one sentence - "George W Bush managed to become the president - two times"

But I will give a wider view:
- easily manipulated, mostly uncritical mass who soaks almost all that is presented through TV and other mass media
- Jersey Shore managed to become a succsessful series there. Also like to watch people catch crabs, drive trucks on ice and cut down trees.
- don't understand what is socialism or communism, but it doesn't matter, it is BAD!
- awful medical system, no money no health
- but then, there coul've been money for a decent free health system, but the goverment decided they should give it to banks and other financial institutions instead
- also, let's not forget the unbalanced spread of wealth
- basically has two political parties
- political system prone to corruption (have I mentioned banks and other financial institutions?)
- lack of proper education for most people
- belief that legality of arms posession brings security
- unable to make proper cars (well, not after 1980's at least)

I could go on, but I think that is enougj

Well the first time I fail to see how Bush Won, however the 2nd time was mostly because the Democrats picked a lame candidate.

"

Well even to those who do understand it, they think its bad so that is a moot point. lol...

I like the people (well most of them) but overall it has too much power for its own good. It is also quite arrogant in the way that it does things it thinks that because it has the most power it has the right to do any damn thing it wants, This is NOT the case. I am a Brit and i hate the way we get dragged into all the wars america starts, it only has wars because too much of its industry depends on it. The country is riddled with corruption, a long history of violence (there hasn't been a day of peace since the american civil war) and unfortunately the american people will pay for their governments "deliberate mistakes"

In conclusion. It is a country that survives on misery and suffering but only at other peoples expense, tries to be "all that" even though its nearly in as much debt as its worth and soon the countries gonna fall into economic ruins when it becomes bankrupt because if they dont change the way they live there's no way out of it.

I am sorry to be so negative. I like the people but not the country.

And that's OUR fault?  I must have missed the part where we stared two world wars, a revolution in Russia which led to the realization of communism as a political system, and endless conflicts, mass genocide, and ethnic cleansing in Africa, the Middle East, Eastern Europe and parts of Asia, just to name a few things that have transpired over the past century.

I never said its your fault or that England had any better a past but this thread is all about America and it is my view that England has left its days of violence behind whereas america hasnt. BTW we never started WW1 or WW2 neither the Russian Revolution but we did do terrible things with our empire. Again lets just remind ourselves that i said " I like the people but not the country" I never said it was the amrican peoples fault i actually said it was the goverment doing it and because of it the american people will suffer eventually. This is not a "What do you think of England thread" its all about america and if you dont agree with me you can but theres no reason to go around blaming others for things they didnt do just because you dont agree with them

Wait... does this mean im not human?

You misunderstood my post... I was not criticizing Britain at all.  In fact my comment had absolutely nothing to do with the English gov't or people.  I was countering your way over-generalized comment essentially saying that American has been in a state of perpetual war since the days of the civil war, which is blatantly false.  There have been several periods of peace time, mainly when there's no major international conflict to draw the US into.  And I was also pointing out that the vast majority of conflicts from post-civil war America to the present day didn't even involve America in any way, shape, or form when they began and throughout most of their durations.

You know I was always wondering why no one ever used the dollar sign for $ony, but then I realized they have no money so it would be pointless.

Almost every conflict since the american civil war involved america. Of cousre there were other civil wars that america didnt get involved in but they have been involved in quite a few civil wars in the past century
