Gee, guys! It's not that low!
Remember week 0? So add that to the count and you get a nice first week of 250+

Even with 250k it's low.

USA is 3 times the size of Japan, and consoles sell at 3 to 1 in US compared to Japan. Yet the US opening is 15% less?

Japan was different... it was in the hollidays. I bet Vita's USA holiday sales will be much bigger than this launch week.

And not only that, home consoles sell 3 to 1. Not portables.

UK sold about 1.2 per every thousand people.

USA is like .8

While it may mean nothing, I live on Long Island and Near tells me I have (51) people within a 2.5 Mile radius playing with a Vita.

Nice to know that regardless of what happens I at least have plenty of people to play with. (3) of them even added me and one lives in my current apartment complex.

PSVita helps you make friends!

iPhone = Great gaming device. Don't agree? Who cares, because you're wrong.

Currently playing:

Final Fantasy VI (iOS), Final Fantasy: Record Keeper (iOS) & Dragon Quest V (iOS)

Got a retro room? Post it here!

If it was too early to call the Vita a failure pre-launch, then it's also too early to call it a success post-launch.

I'm thinking that the Vita will take a major major hit.

Vita needs Monster Hunter.

I'm not surprised by these Vita numbers in America. The local PlaynTrade has sold only 1 or 2 of them so far. I was the fourth person to even ask about the system. From what I've gathered, there are too many 3G models and not enough WiFi ones.

wtf is a playntrade?

And from my gamestop, they had too many wifis and not enough 3g.

Play N Trade is a relatively recent franchise of game stores in the US and Canada. From what I've gathered, they're mostly present in the American North-East and Ontario. Basically, think Gamestop with more retro stuff.

So then why use a new niche store anecdotally to confirm your suspicion?

It's even worse that there are probably thousands of these small stores who sell one or two, because that would have to lower the average of all the other major retailers.

You realize that gamestop would have to sell like less than 10 each to reach this number in combination with other stores.

From what I heard from the gamestop employee, the average sales per store was 30! That's 132k by itself. so 30k between walmart, best buy, sony style, target, amazon, playntrade type stores, costco, etc etc etc

No, not 30k, probably the bundles on week 0 enter that count too. More like 120 k, which is reasonable.

I did not mean to confirm any suspicions. I just wanted to say "These numbers make sense, based on an ancedote." Then, other people could have said things like "Oh yeah, my Walmart didn't have enough Wifi models either!"

I have a PlayNTrade about ~2 miles from my apartment and it has gone through new management 3 times, thus needing to close their doors twice, so I doubt they are a good barometer for sales.

Great for system repairs though.

The Gamestop I purchased mine from had WiFi's and 3G models left when I picked my model up on Tuesday, but only the 3G's were available to those who did not preorder and they only had (2). They had ~(5) WiFi in the cabinet. I only know this because when I picked mine up they explained this to one of their new workers.

I also just exhanged my WiFi for a new one on Monday, so they no doubt already recieved in a 2nd shipment.

In what way are they influential? Wasn't there an article the other day stating that the UK has surpassed Japan as a gaming demographic?

This is the website for my local playntrade.

http://playntrademillerplace.com/

The one real cool thing about them is you can try out anything before you buy it, so no worrying about buying a game or console and not liking it after finally checking it out at home.
