Posting in another misleading oniyide thread.

Pixel Art can be fun.

This thread went in the exact direction I thought it would when I read the title.

you did your research, so i have to give you your props. good job.

well, i said Wii has the most platformers in the first place, maybe i was wrong afterall, but i was having only retail games in mind

now including XBL games would be logical because they exist on the platform, on the other hand XBL is much more expanded than WiiWare, so it's normal to have more titles, and most downloadable games are 2D platformers anyway, so it's normal for such a big online service to have so many 2D platformers

retail they win of course, but I like to look at the entire spectrum, but you get it.

People alway act like XBLA games don't exist but there are a lot of gems in there... some of my most played games are arcade games.

I think you'll find some act as if it's the ONLY thing that exists.

i more or less agree with Rol

and for christ's sake, any comparison as to which console wins the platformer is pathetic, i agree sales don't mean quality, and quantity does not either, but it's crystal clear:

don't mind my username, that was more than 10 years ago, I'm a different person now, amazing how people change ^_^

I didnt count all the games from that list, because some clearly are not platformers, NJ3 is a clear example it was not part of my count.

Wii is the king of current generation consoles. It sold the most.

No, Wii is the best console for a gamer this generation, because it has the most games. The Wii is the king of games this generation.

The entire premise of your original post is flawed. You say that the reason you made this thread is because you have been hearing people say that the Wii is the king of platformers this generation. Then you make the leap that these people mean who has the most games while the statement actually refers to which console is the #1 platform, if you are a fan of the genre. This makes sheer quantity irrelevant, it's only about the quantity of quality games. The Xbox 360 may have a lot of games like LOL LOL Kitty Commando, but who cares? (By the way, I am not making fun of this game, that is its actual title.)

Also, the way you justify XBLA games is funny:

"That is alot, now of course a vast majority of these games are on XBOX LIVE, but I think it would be ignorant to not consider them, they are games on the platform after all."

Why is it funny? Because you choose to be ignorant about classic games, even though they are games on the platform too.

Regarding your edit to the original post, this doesn't prove that you have no agenda. It's pretty common that people whose favorite console doesn't win in a specific category are still satisfied as long as the console they dislike doesn't finish in first. And the premise of this thread is that you wanted to challenge that the Wii is the king of platformers this generation. It always bugs you when you read some positive statement about the Wii, so you have an urge to disagree. A person could write a (somewhat) lengthy post about the Xbox 360 with one line being about the Wii at the end and you would decide to reply to the Wii part alone.

quality is subjective, there might be some guy out there who likes that kitty commando.  Quantity is never irrelevant, because thats something you can prove with hard data. Quality is again subjective, maybe epeople dont like the platformers on Wii but like the 360 ones?

VC games are not Wii games, just like PS classics are not PS3 games but its funny that you dont complain about that. hmmmm

Sounds like your just mad because you r fav console is not on top of the platform genre

Seriously Rol.

The number one choice for platformers is clearly the PC then. All Nintendo consoles combined cannot beat its library - fact.

Don't make the mistake to underestimate other platforms. There are a lot of quality titles available. Feel free to do a comparison between Wii/WW and 360/XBLA games.
Surely there are more platformers on XBLA than on 360, but hey I've beaten NSMB Wii in less than 6 hours as well and that's not a long time for a retail game (obviously has multiplayer as well), so they are definitely comparable.

The PC cannot win a comparison between 360, PS3 and Wii. Besides, it's not about the sheer quantity of games, but the number of quality titles and how big they are that makes one platform the king.

Also, there's a difference between rushing through a game and completing all of its levels.

True, that's why NES (for example) can't win this either. I agree that the number of quality titles is the most important criteria, still the thread creator pointed out that this thread is about sheer quantity (thread title suggests the same).
What "king of ..." really means is unrelevant. He even admits that it can also mean in terms of sales, which he is explicitly excluding when creating this thread.

That was just a normal playthrough. Not rushing involved at all. Obviously did not pursue all bonus coins or secret places whatever. Mario games are not the only ones with optional goals. (If you looked at some XBLA achievements, you would come to the same conclusion)

Not sure why you'd discount Virtual Console titles, given that many of them are appearing on a Nintendo platform for the very first time.

I also don't get why you're using Gamespot which clearly has some strange definitions when this website has a similar search tool that seems far more accurate.

Furthermore, the iPhone has 247 platform games listed here, and the site is nowhere close to having the full iOS library uploaded. So that wins. The less said about how they play with only touchscreen controls the better though...
