That's a very loose definition of platformers. The first thing I see is Ninja Gaiden 3.

I am also not sure about your methodology to disregard classic games.

And lastly, "king of platformers" certainly doesn't refer to amount of games. Because by that logic the Wii would be the king of current generation consoles and that's probably not the kind of conclusion you want to end up with.

I didnt count all the games from that list, because some clearly are not platformers, NJ3 is a clear example it was not part of my count.

Wii is the king of current generation consoles. It sold the most.

So you're counting XBLA, but not WW or VC? Seems fair...

I did count WiiWare games, WiiWare games were on the Wii list. Im not counting VC because those are not original games for that platform, there essentially emulated games. No different than PC ones, except you pay. And I did not include PS classics or older titles on LIVE (SONIC 1,2, cd etc.)

How does the number of games matter significantly? Surely it's the quality of the top few titles that matters?

1. The thread title is "WHo really has the most platformers?" thats the question im answering.

2. Quality is subjective, you might like a game that is considered good by many, I might hate it vice versa. Numbers are not subjective

3. to answer you original question. It just shows diversity with the genre IMHO

1. I realise that's the question you're answering, I was asking why does that question matter.

2. We can agree on this point

3. Large numbers of games don't show diversity, you could have large numbers of very similar games.

But thanks for answering my questions =)

XBLA platformers, for the most part might as well be old emulated games, only not as good with ropey over cooked physics and boredom 'a plenty.

Not surprised at all. XBLA has a ton of awesomeness

You sir have no idea what you're talking about.
Surely that must be the reason why no one cares about titles such as: Braid, Limbo, Super Meat Boy, Splosion Man, Ms. Splosion Man, Trine 2, Outland and many more.

It saddens me how far the 3d platformer genre has fallen in such a short space of time. Ratchet seems to have dried up, no more Jak, Spyro, Crash... :(. Mario Galaxy was pure gaming bliss but it really starts to look bleak after that already. Wah.

Someone needs to figure out how to make an awesome 3D platformer on PSN, instead of just making more awesome 2D platformers.
