Sorry, I'd rather give my money to more important things like food.

Or you can buy Happy Action Theatre and/or Seasame Street :P

Some serious fanboys out there, someone already got the 10k package, and 7 people donated 5k+.

Unbelievable amount of funds they're receiving, and it's still not even the end of the first day. I haven't played Psychonauts, but what I have played by Double fine has seemed pretty mediocre to me.

Disconnect and self destruct, one bullet a time.

this is actually one of the possible solutions to combat piracy.

the people who want the game fund the game, and when it's done it's released free for everyone to share.

everyone will be happy, except the people who hate sharing their stuff with others.

my other solution would be to produce a game and make only one copy that will cost from $ 200.000 to 40 million according to it's budget, and once bill gates or someone else has bought it, the game is free to share.

on topic: i'm going to donate

Except for the fact that Double Fine also needs to make money, not just get enough to be able to get out the game. Or do you think the people work for free?

how would they work for free? what do you think the $ 400.000 are for? people who work on the game get paid for working on the game with that money. hell they even get the money up front. why would they need more money after they don't work on the game any more?

that of course is assuming the 400.000 are calculated in the way that everything and everyone neccesary for the game is being paid for.

Hmm, yeah, you might just be onto something there. I was just thinking that 400k is such a small amount of money, that salaries couldn't possibly be included in there. But they probably are.

It still feels a bit wrong though, that the studio shouldn't get extra moneys and stuff they deserve, so that they won't have to rely on donations for every project from now on. Then again, considering how fast they are making money now, they could safely do so.

This could fund Psychonauts 2 + This game lol. Notch hardly needed.

Who knows...Maybe Notch has already donated to this game.

you may see it this way: there is thousands of people who put their money together to hire a studio to make them a game. when the game is finished these people should allowed to do whatever they want with the game, like share it.

anyway, just out of curiosity, what else could the money be used for but salaries?

“It appeared that there had even been demonstrations to thank Big Brother for raising the chocolate ration to twenty grams a week. And only yesterday, he reflected, it had been announced that the ration was to be reduced to twenty grams a week. Was it possible that they could swallow that, after only twenty-four hours? Yes, they swallowed it.”

Boy, this is pretty easily going to be the biggest Kickstarter ever.

16 dollars from me, count me in!

This is getting momentum, this is glorious! :)

Just paid $16...

I am too old to have played his games when they actually came out, but I have played the first 2 monkey island games, and given the cost that I am paying to get the game for free, it seems like a good idea to encourage good developers to make good games! (not kinect ones)

It is great to see them raise money so quickly so and so easily, but I doubt that many are going to be able to replicate this as they won't have the popularity of Schafer

As for Psyconauts, I reckon that they will need FAR more money for that, as it is likely to be a full game on consoles, it will need far more money. I am sure any profits from this game will help, but they will probably need a proper publisher for that. I think the best thing would be to do this again, but mostly as a publicity stunt to show that there is support for the game

This could easily be the biggest kickstarter campaign ever.

Fucking impressive. I was toying with the idea of making a small iOS game and starting a 7 - 10k kickstarter program, that is just tiny in comparison lol.

EDIT:  ALSOOOOOOOOO, you have to take into account the cost of the prizes (plus shipping them).  Those will take a percentage out of the earnings.

EDIT 2: ALSOOOOOO AGAIN, kickstarter takes a percentage of the earnings (thats how they make money) as well as amazon (for some reason I don't understand)
