This is all that needs to be said.

Galaxy 2 was awesome, Galaxy was a hell of an idea with great level design.

Hated mario 64 and Mario sunshine.  Mario 64 was alright on its own but I hated what it did to the genre (3d platformers became fetch quests).  Mario Sunshine was alright but accentuated everything I didn't like about 64 and I found it confusing for some reason.

Mario 3D land I'm still in the air about...I played through the whole thing and was rather disappointed/underwhelmed, only to hear that's apparently only half the game, and the best half is yet to be played.  haven't returned to it as I'm too busy with Ocarina of time 3D and Mario Kart 7.

Wait what do you mean you played through the whole thing but it was only half o.O?

Well, I played through all 8 worlds, beat the game, beat bowser, got to the end credits, and when I complained the game was too short to the VGchartz crew, they informed me that there's another set of levels.  Appparently, once you beat the game you get a second set of levels.  Same world design, different level design, and the second set is apparently much harder.

I can't clarify this but that's what I'm told.  Beating the game just unlocks more levels.

Oh so its similar to the green stars in Super Mario Galaxy 2 or the inverse colored level design in Super Mario World (except for difficulty).

Hey at least it doesnt blatantly tell you to go try a harder mode like in Super Mario Bros....

see?  I'm not the only one who didn't know that?  Take that VGchartz team!  They laughed at me when I complained, apparently it's not so obvious that there are new levels!  I'm not an idiot!

Im pretty sure 90% of the reviews said "its too easy, but then when you beat it, you'll have a HUGE surprise". Some detailed the extra worlds, but most have given it a 10/10 specifically because of the extra game difficulty in the Special Worlds.

“When we make some new announcement and if there is no positive initial reaction from the market, I try to think of it as a good sign because that can be interpreted as people reacting to something groundbreaking. ...if the employees were always minding themselves to do whatever the market is requiring at any moment, and if they were always focusing on something we can sell right now for the short term, it would be very limiting. We are trying to think outside the box.” - Satoru Iwata - This is why corporate multinationals will never truly understand, or risk doing, what Nintendo does.

^ Seems like Mario 64 is winning now xD

No surprise though, its similar to the way SE fans see FFVII when comparing to every FF game that came after it.

Edit: Just like I see Super Mario World as the best mario game in the main series ;)

Edit 2: Still hoping for a 3D remake of Super Mario World, if it happens, whatever system it comes out, I will get it asap even if its a overpriced Wii-U or on the 3DS.

Same here, I too think that SMW was the best mario game ever made, but I don't compare the Mario 64 effect to the FFVII effect, mostly because FFVII is about on third place on my list of 3D FF's (and about sixth on my overall FF's list).

Most FFVII fans see FFVII not only as the best 3D FF game, but as the best FF game overall (granted, most started playing a FF game or a RPG game with FFVII since it brought both FF and console RPGs into the mainstream community).

I cannot rate any 3D Mario as my favourite as i would not describe any of them as favourite games of mine.

1. Super Mario 64
2. Super Mario Galaxy
3. Super Mario Sunshine
4. Super Mario Galaxy 2

I've only played little bits of Super Mario 3D Land.

Super Mario 64 is the best because it is linear, but allows you to wander around and discover things. The Galaxy games doesn't allow that much freedom. Also, Sunshine is very good, but I don't like the tropical island setting as much as Mushroom Kingdom.

Im I the only weirdo who thinks 3d land is the best?? People say it is alot like the 2d ones, and thats why I like it. Its a true combo of the two styles.
Mario Galaxy 2, might be the best 3d platformer ever. One of the few Ninty games I bought for Wii.
Mario Galaxy 1, I only played a little bit, because i was afraid It would be more like 64 and Sunshine. Glad that wasnt the case.
Sunshine, it felt like a better 64 with a water gun, not great, but not bad. it did get boring
64, worst of the bunch, nostalgia aside. It has not aged well IMO. I felt it got too repetitive and like Runa said, fetch quests suck.

You can have my company at weirdo land. I think Super Mario 3d land is the best 3d Mario ever. Yes I have gone mad.

good to see i am not alone. In addition. I think Mario 3 is the best in the series, period. Yes better than World
