Forums - General - I finally finished reading the Harry Potter series

The difficulty with filming the movies is that edits had to be consistent. Kreacher had to be cut at some points so that dictated cutting him at others as well. The same goes for Winky and, to an extent, Dobby. Cut one important element out of book four and it's not as if you can bring it back for book six when that mini-arc concludes.

Out of all the movies, the most disappointing edits involved Neville. One of the most ingenuous parts of the novels was the mirrored relationship between Harry and Neville but the movies hardly touch on it at all. To me, that was the biggest mistake in filming because the subtext behind it is crucial to the entire story. Harry WASN'T special. Neville was put into the exact same situation. Harry had the ability. Neville did not. But that didn't mean that Neville would stop trying to be just as brave and just as dedicated as Harry.

That's pretty ironic, since most of the fans consider PoA to be the best HP movie after DH2.

Ugh. Deathly Hallows part 1 was miles better than part 2. The entire battle sequence in part 2 was just wrong. They made unnecessary and often counter-productive changes when following the novel more closely would have worked better.

The Harry/Voldemort battle was particularly bad, as was the disposal of the Elder Wand. Not to mention how Neville kills Nagini in the books was far superior to the movie's take on it.

On the other hand, part 1 couldn't have handled the death of Dobby any better than it did. It was more touching than the book, in my opinion. And part 1 was just creepy. The director's use of sound and cinematography to create an eery atmosphere of loneliness and desperation was wonderful.

Heck, everything in the book is far superior to the movie's take on it.

And regarding the DH1 vs. DH2 part,I feel like the book should've been adapted in one single movie, because I was left with the impression that nothing really relevant happened in DH1,and that everything in DH2 was just too fast-paced.

The whole finale component made it feel like an unique&exciting but at the same time sad experience, and I guess that's what makes the movie stand out as the best for me.I agree that many directing decisions were uncalled for,but the feeling that you get from the movie makes you overlook them,at least in my case.

My opinion might change if I watch PoA again though,it's been ages since I've last seen it.

Anyway, enough talking about the movies. What's your favorite book from the series?

The book I liked the less was the 4th.

It just was cold, with the competition taking over everything. Still a good book but inferior to the others.

Probably Deathly Hallows. I thought bringing to light Dumbledore's own mistakes and Harry's mental maturation set it apart from the rest.

The 4 being my least favourite, the 5th is the best for me. The 7th is close second and the 2nd finish the podium.

Best:

1) Order of Phoenix
2) Deathly Hallows
3) Chamber of Secrets

The Half-Blood Prince is definitely the best book in my opinion. The whole concept of Harry finding that potions textbook which belonged to the so called half-blood prince (I'm not gonna spoil it for those who haven't read the book yet, even if it's pretty damn late),using it for himself and the introduction of Dumbledore's Pensieve makes it the most fascinating for me.

The serie has been finished 5 years ago, spoilers are not in use anymore to speak about it.
