Number of reasons ranging from 3DS competition, price range, lack of UMD option (hurts the product if people are generally still into physical media).
Edit: Ignore that one, tough PSP competition is what I meant.

Vita showing what happens when you release a system with no compelling software, when the opposition has just launched 2 Marios and a MonHun.
Needs good games.
3DS is fantastic, Wii is great, PS3 is good. PSP is super!

It is not that 3DS is going to sell this much during the non-holiday weeks. Nintendo consoles explode at this time of the year, just look at thw Wii above PS3, but in few more weeks we'll have a better picture.
Vita won't have a big drop as the 3DS.

It's not even the same system -- doing this makes no sense.
Anyway, it's fair to call it a disaster.

70% decline, I don't know if I would call it a good second week, when the first week wasn't that great. Given that it is this week of the year, it makes it more depressing. Add in the fact that if does 50-70% decline next week, the title pretty much did pretty bad in terms of the brand name and being a numbered title sequel.

Yes, but PSP was a new handheld, you can't ignore the growth of the brand from the last few years.
Besides, PSP first week was around half of Vitas, that I heard last week. Vita's second week drop is worse than PSP's
I think everyone should relax and remember the early reports that stated something like 86% sellout of WiFi model and 54% or so for the 3G version.
Obviously demand is for the WiFi model and with SONY giving 100 hours 3G to those who purchased the first 500k 3G versions, it is easy to assume they overshipped the version the consumers did not want, hence the reason why the initial shipment did not sellout.
We will need to wait for word about a new shipment of just WiFi models to be absolutely sure.

Yeah, a quick glance at how FF games sell in Japan, I noticed the following trend:
1st week ~1.5m
2nd week ~200k
3rd week ~100k
then sales in the teens until it hits the bargain bins
That means XIII-2 should sell at 50k next week before it tanks.
