Forums - Sales - If InFamous 2 struggled to sell 1 million... are Twisted Metal and StarHawk DOOMED?!

Honestly, InFamous 2 had a lot more hype. It was the sequel to a recent game that had more hype and higher sales.

The reviews were pretty good. There was a fair amount of online advertising.

Yet it's only sold 1 million in almost a year. Yeah I know it's downloadable as well, but lets be honest. Most people didn't even know about that and bought it from the store.

Now if InFamous 2 had trouble selling 1 million.... Don't you think Twisted Metal and StarHawk are DEAD IN THE WATER?! Seriously... I love Twisted Metal... But I'm in my mid-20's. I was playing Twisted Metal Black 10 years ago.... and I'm quite old for a gamer. A lot of younger gamers have no clue what Twisted Metal is. It's the sequel to a game that came out 10 years ago. It also has a history of selling poorly in Europe, which is PS3's best region.

StarHawk.... ditto. I think it'll have even worse sales than Twisted Metal. I feel sorry for LightBox and EatSleepPlay as I know theyre both working very hard on these games.

Then you add in that both of these games are similar, and are coming out around the same time. They are competing with each other.

I think they will both struggle to crack 1 million sales each. Twisted Metal has a better chance of doing it, but it will crawl there. Probably will need the Bargain Bin to help it out. I hope I am wrong, but I doubt it.

Didn't it only come out in June?

Hard to say... Twisted Metals best region was always the USA.. but there the 360 reins supreme.. still expect it to do 1 million.. but hey.. I also expected that from SOCOM 4..

and is Starhawk going up against Dust 514 directly? think Dust 514 will beat it..

You're right. But the majority of sales happen within the first month, and then a little spike during the holiday season.

InFamous 2 has had both of those and it's sitting stalemated at barely over 1 million..... dont expect it to sell a whole lot more in the next 6 months.

yeah I expected Socom to hit 1 million easily.... that game was a total flop.

Unforunately, I think Twisted Metal, Starhawk, and Dust 514 will all have the same fate....

Sony's advertising is just horrible.

Yeah I agree. Not much big left in it sales wise. It hasn't gone platinum or as a best seller yet, though. After that happens I expect it will claw out a few hundred thousand more sales at least. Single player games without a lot of replay value are tough sells these days.

1. It's supposed to have more replay value due to it's User Generated Content.

2. It's an open world game just like Red Dead Redemption, LA Noire, Arkham City, etc.... Those didn't have any trouble selling.

1) It's been half a year for inF2

2) Twisted Metal isn't a sequel. It's a reboot to the entire franchise. Jaffe himself stated that he understands the problem with a follow up to a 10 year old game (will be over a 11 when the game hits) and is treating the project as a new IP. The goal isn't to get people to remember what Twisted Metal was. It's to introduce everyone to Twisted Metal again. The game will be competing for sales like a New IP.

3) The same sorta goes for StarHawk. It's not like it's a direct sequel to Warhawk. It's gonna be marketed as something new.

For me Infamous 2 is one of the best games of 2011. That's why I want Sony to continue making unique games like Twisted Metal and StarHawk even if they do not sell well.
