Forums - Sales - If InFamous 2 struggled to sell 1 million... are Twisted Metal and StarHawk DOOMED?!

1) It's been half a year for inF2

2) Twisted Metal isn't a sequel. It's a reboot to the entire franchise. Jaffe himself stated that he understands the problem with a follow up to a 10 year old game (will be over a 11 when the game hits) and is treating the project as a new IP. The goal isn't to get people to remember what Twisted Metal was. It's to introduce everyone to Twisted Metal again. The game will be competing for sales like a New IP.

3) The same sorta goes for StarHawk. It's not like it's a direct sequel to Warhawk. It's gonna be marketed as something new.

You don't really believe that. Sure Twisted metal is more like a reboot but a known franchise is always an easier sell then something no one has ever heard of before. Personally I believe Infamous 2 sold far more in digital sales then anyone thinks and that twisted metal will be fine, it's a great and popular franchise and from what I've seen of the game it looks really good. Not sure about starhawk but I'm pretty sure it doesn't need as many sales to profit.

Also for the record Last Guardian is a budget game. Even if it doesn't sell a ton it will profit. ICO didn't get that many sales and profited so I don't know why people are worried about Last Guardian. I don't get why everyone just assumes games need so many sales to make a profit, only Rockstar, Activision, Square,  EA, Ubisoft and MS are stupid enough to require a ton of sales for a game to profit.

I expect Twisted Metal to sell 2 million.

Starhawk a little bit above 1 million
The Last Guardian 2 million

Well Twisted Metal pre-orders are good. With some good marketing I don't think it will have a hard time reaching 1 mil.

Starhawk will be a hard sell. Although the concept of the game is original and fun its just not mainstream material.

Why do people even care about sales, are you profiting from each copy sold, no. 1 million is still great no matter what. I also believe that a lot of its sales in europe and others are from digital.

No, twisted metal will be fine and now with the twisted metal black download included, it should push some people to buy it first week. The starhawk beta is great so i think it will do fairly well.

Infamous 2 was on PSN day and date.

Retail isn't the only factor to look at for sales anymore. It's something I've been asking the powers that be of this very site how they are going to adapt and I know they are working hard on a solution.

PS3 did not have a bad year. You look at the exclusives and they are also available on the PSN.

A better question: Socom 4 failed to reach a million, are The Last of Us & The Last Guardian doomed?

Id say they will do around 2 million each. Both new IPs which will limit their potential this late in the gen but Last of Us is part of the still popular zombie genre and Last Guardian will have tremendous Japan sales.

Xbox: Best hardware, Game Pass best value, best BC, more 1st party genres and multiplayer titles.

Sales equals winner and loser. It determines developer support. But mostly, it determines relevance. It shows you what gamers care about, separating the useless internet hype from people who are actually willing to part with money.

Notice how none of this concerns actual quality. But to me, relevance > quality. If you have both, your all set.

Is people forgetting why is infamous 2 still selling at full price.

Bet with gooch_destroyer, he wins if FFX and FFX-2 will be at $40 each for the vita. I win if it dont

That's a large prediction... for The last guardian, when team ico games have barely sold over 1 million.

Even if you combine Shadows of the Collosus and the team ico collection it's less than 2 million.
