Forums - Sales Discussion - Global Up! - 17th December

Since people continue to claim PS3 undertracked during holidays and 360 overtracked (and most that say this believe by 100s of thousands.) I repost this from 3 days ago. postoffficebuddy dug up the individual weekly threads from last year November and December.  I then used excel to produce the information below the links.

Summary: PS3 was adjusted 3,713 up and 360 adjusted down 88,663. The 360 adjustment down was solely because of the reported sales for the week after Christmas where 360 was in incredibly short supply.  Without that week the 360 adjustments were up nearly 100,000.

Looks like the PS3 from BF through the end of the year was adjusted net up of 3,713.

Looks like the 360 from BF through the end of the year was adjusted net down 88,663 which can be attributed nearly all to the final week when VGC was not yet aware of 360 shortages. Actually prior to that final week the adjustments were net up 99,169.

It's impossible to be overtracking PS3, all the staff here are Ninty/Microsoft fanboys, stooopid.

Its funny because you are part of the staff :D

It's funny cos it's some bullshit conspiracy theory by Sony fans on the site.

Are you saying you're don't prefer the Xbox 360?

You're "Currently Playing" games are all Xbox 360.....
That guy with the Trunks avatar also prefers Xbox 360. He's a writer I believe.

I'm not saying its a bad thing, but just don't say its not true because there is substaintail evidene to support these peoples claims :D

You're pretty stupid if you think there is actually something in those claims. Me and trunk don't even work on the data so whatever our preferences, they're irrelevent. And there is a difference between fan and fanboys. So no, there is no evidence, just damage control from Sony fans that can't hack when they see numbers they're not happy with.

Actually, now I remember thanks to SolidSnake08.  I'm petty sure it was mostly undertracked in Sept-Oct due to VGC underestimating the impact from the Move launch.  But then we got tracking numbers from Nintendo, which showed that the PS3 was actually outselling the 360, when we had the 360 previously outselling it.  By the time Black Friday and December rolled around, they had got their tracking more in line to what it was actually selling.

Well, considering they had the PS3 undertracked by ~150K in the US alone last month, I wouldn't exactly say there is no reason for doubt.  All I know is that since I have been a member, when it comes to adjustments the PS3, for the most part, is adjusted up, while the 360 is usually spot on or dropped down slightly.  Of course, I'm not going to go around posting undertracked without an actual reason, which I will admit some do.  Like last month I was saying the PS3 was undertracked, which it was.  But my reasoning was that after doing the math, the amount of stock of holiday bundles in each store would have been too low for Black Friday.

Fable 3 getting big sales combined with this being same price as normal 250gig 360 mean heavy bundling

Uncharted 3 getting big sales combined with this being the same price as normal 320gig PS3 means amazing sales?

Someone explain to me why the crowd that goes on and on about heavily bundled games isn't complaining about uncharted 3? Why is it if 360 fans dare praise the sales of Fable, or Forza, they get laughed at, but the uncharted series gets praise about its sales despite always getting heavily bundled from the day it comes out.

Difference is that people will buy that 360 bundle for the 3months of free xbox gold and halo reach, noone is buying it for fable. With the uncharted 3 bundle people actually want to play uncharted 3. Hence Fable 3 is piggybacking on the complete bundle, its not moving the bundle because people actually want it. Its a good way for MS to give some shine to a game that isn't that popular.

Because you know all right? People that buy the bundle buy it for both games and 3 months gold to a much lesser extent. What is with the people saying the Fable series is not a popular? Fable 3 sold slightly over 3 million without bundles and Fable 2 has sold almost 4 million. It's one of the most popular WRPG series.

Nobody is buying that bundle for Fable 3 dont lie to yourself. Fable 3 has been bundled for a long time and Fable 2 sales are pretty much all due to excessive bundling.

Neither Fable II (~880k) or III (~900k) sold over a million copies in the first week so stop drinking that MS juice. Unless we round up by hundreds of thousands now a days for MS exclusives.

MW3 and Gears 3 are bundled, the $100 premium is for the extra controller and the custom paint job etc. To tell me that the game is not discounted in that bundle is foolish.

MS kids just stop it....stop it

Wow. Fanboys. Going at it everywhere with made up facts and he said she said crap.

PS3 should join the ranks of ONE MILLION UNITS SOLD next week. I'm very happy the 3DS is doing so well. Take that "Smartphones are killing the dedicated handheld gaming market" people!

I will admit that I was very concerned over the 3DS' future back before the price drop, but things have turned around nicely.

So can you give me solid evidence folks are not buying the bundle for both games, but just Reach? I have a very strong feeling that your just talking out your ass. Your acting like most of Fables sales are from bundles, which is complete crap. Fable 2 was bundled slightly with Halo 3 for a very short while during spring.

What does week 1 sales have to do with anything? So if a game doesn't sell over a million the first week it has crap sales. Well then 95% of ps3 exclusives would be in this category.

Fable 3 sold slightly over 3 million before the bundles and Fable 2 has 3.99 million. Nothing crappy about that. Stop being a hater and accept the fact Fable is a very big franchise, and sells on it's own. Obviously not as big as Halo, but how many franchises are? Fable 3 would have hit 4 million on it's own anyway.
