You - actually most people in the thread - are taking his words in the wrong context IMHO.
He's clearly talking about cinematic/narrative/character experience. Not some never seen before setting or even some never played before gameplay.
He means they think they're going to delivery characterisation and narrative that is deeper and different than anything else in the industry - and given almost all games have shallow, weak characterisation the bar they need to jump isn't that high. In fact arguably the bar this gen for those elements has been set by ND themselves.
Going by the tailer I'd guess a mix of gameplay styles from Lead 4 Dead in terms of infected and fast moving threat combined with a The Road style level of melancholia and despair (albeit with more green). Given in narrative terms that's tough for characters they're either going to really have to make the two leads come to life or find a way to have them interact with others over a series of vignettes I'd imagine.
Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...
