Forums - Music Discussion - Why does most music made after ~2000 suck?

Do you believe the music industry has gone downhill during the 2000s?

Yes 79 69.91%

No 29 25.66%

Maybe 5 4.42%

Total:113

Maybe you can try something different. In my opinion Japaneses creates awesome classical/rock music lately. Not sure its your cup of tea but its extremely high quality with no such thing as lypsinc or voice synthesiser.

The best Rock song  in the last 15 Years comes from Lady Gaga.

  .

Haters gonna hate.

I like Lady gaga, but to say she produced rock just because it has a guitar is a little too much.  Michael Jackson had guitar in his songs too, still a Pop singer. The best of all time IMO, RIP, but still a Pop singer.

In the last 15 years we had Red Hot, System and White Stripes to say a few. All had music that are goodbets for that title.

yeah, i guess you look at the wrong places. there is impressive music still to be found even in 20XX.
what kind/Genre of music do you like/Dislike?

I mainly stick to classic rock, rock, reggae and alternative now since the rap scene has died since 2Pac era and Pimp C was the last notable rapper to die.

Pink Floyd, Butthole Surfers, Pearl Jam, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Nirvana, Rage Against the Machine, Beck, The Beatles, Tool, Bob Marley, Eek-a-mouse, Black Uhuru, Toots and The Maytals, Half Pint, Weezer, Led Zeppelin, Cypress Hill, 2Pac, UGK, Jethro Tull, Ozzy Osbourne, Alice in Chains, Bone Thugs-N-Harmony, Live, Soundgarden, Sublime, The Smashing Pumpkins, Foo Fighters, Nine Inch Nails, , Eazy E, Rush, Fleetwood Mac, The Righteous Brothers, The Doors, etc  (highlighted ones are the types of music I prefer the most)

I just copied and pasted most of the bands I listed in my profile.  What I really want is something that sounds like classic rock.  It just seemed that classic rock songs actually flowed nice and sounded nice than the mess we have now.

Dream Theater (i'm surprised you haven't heard of them they're pretty old, and they're still making great music, they also got very  popular lately)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h0jvk7MqbmA

3  (Three, due to their name , its probably hard to find their songs

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f98xx3RJBXk

Tv on the Radio

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dXLpXu9T7j0

Damian Marley (hey if you like Bob Marley why haven't heard of his son?)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G1IGsmSa2P4

Paradise Lost (one of my personal favourites, and very underrated band outside Britain)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SHXOWwqwPDo

Jamie Woon (this guy single handedly made me go back to listening RnB .. the good R&B i mean)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OZfDbEQAfOY

Hammerfall (they're a bit like Judas Priest and Iron Maiden ... the Traditional Heavy Metal sound)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3i7H1--JxVw

Dead Can Dance (here is one of my favourites , just give them a listen  )

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jh9HVvFNOyA

Down below are a bit more "Extreme" bands so they're deffo not for everyone, but they might be a new experience for people who want something different

Fields Of The Nephilim

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NCMm1mJ3DRs

Amon Tobin (this guy probably got a lot more popular thanks to composing Infamous's Soundtrack)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bk8W3ysnB7M

My Dying Bride

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EQJUUDsfRek

Katatonia

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZPSGS-ymseI

i could go on for ages, infact i myself keep discovering new bands on daily basis, and i'm actually very grateful that the mainstream is shit, otherwise i wouldn't have this wide range of music tastes, and i'm actually always open for new stuff , always listening to something new and never getting bored.

I love the song, it is Rock, but I'm only pulling your leg.

The best rock song, IMO, since 2000...

It's great. Despite Foo Fighters not starting in the 00's, the song itself came from 2005.

the standar set was too high, I mean, Jonas Brothers were trying to become The Beatles, WTF?

It's just you.
There are plenty of good songs. Example: Justin Biebers stuff.

(that last part was sarcasm)

Were they really? Its just the media that was doing the comparisons.

Unfortunately, all popluar 3 member bands will get compared to The Beatles at some point.

Pearl Jam, Foo Fighters, Blink 182, Linkin Park are all from the 90s...  While they are making music still they probably aren't on the top of their game.  I enjoyed Foo Fighters first 2 cds but it seems like they even went down hill.  Most bands from the 90s (311, Pearl Jam, Smashing Pumpkins, etc..) went soft and I am not talking about the good soft which is in a lot of classic rock (basically most bands from the 90s that are still around have shown a drop in their quality).

Linkin Park's first album, Hybrid Theory, came out in 2000, so I wouldn't really say they are from the 90's.

I also noticed somebody mentioned Dream Theater.  While they existed prior to 2000, they have released some marvelous music in the last decade.

Avenged Sevenfold has some pretty sweet music as well.

Shinedown has some amazing songs, largely due to Brent Smith's absolutely amazing voice.

Alter Bridge has some pretty sweet stuff.

Destrophy is pretty awesome.

Some of Jet's songs are cool.

There's plenty of really good bands out there, you simply have to either know where to look or listen through the not quite as good bands on the radio so you can hear the good stuff.
