Square-Enix has had their best generation ever. Their games since they merged have been far better than the ones they made when they were separate companies. The Final Fantasy franchise has shown a particularly great improvement.

Is this sarcasm?

I'm being deadly serious.

Just look at how they improved the mainline FF series with XIII. They streamlined the game and got rid of unnecessary clutter that confuses gamers, and instead focused on creating an even more immersive experience.

Or look at how they saved the FFVII franchise. Crisis Core filled all the plotholes from the original game and introduced well-liked characters such as Genesis who are vital for our understanding of the story and make everything much clearer. They did an especially good job on rounding out the characters of Cloud and Sephiroth, making them much more appealing to a modern audience. It's far harder for non-FF7 fans to criticise Cloud and Sephy-kun now.

Well done, well done.

Personally I liked Square Enix handheld effort (excluding the fighting franchise and CC), and to a certain extent I liked the fact that they don't seem to be harming Eidos.

Around the Network

Nintendo with the 3 Mario games, Zelda, DKCR for the Wii and the wonderful DS library

Sony with Uncharted and GoW3, but a step down in the GT series.. still Uncharted 1,2 and 3 were amazing so yeah

And probably EA for Fifa (yes Fifa :P)

FROM software, naughty dogs and sucker punch. Oh and nintendo EAD of course.

One of the bigger publishers that i think has improved is EA. I know a lot of gamers hate them but they've allowed for some new IP's to be done like mirrors edge, dead space, bad company, but also kept the quality or improved on it for their established franchises with Fifa 12, Battlefield 3, and Crysis 2.

Yeah, I've noticed that I've taken more of a liking to the company this gen than in previous ones (although I still think the SNES/Genesis era was the best for sports). Dead Space, Dante's Inferno, Mirror's Edge and Dragon Age: Origins are just some of the great games they have published this gen. I remember I wasn't too fond of them in the last gen of consoles, but they have certainly stepped it up this time.

I was to harsh so i'll make a small list.

Publisher: the big 3 but Sony would have to be number 1. Followed by MS at 2. And the big N at 3. Sony innovated with great new ip that no other publisher could match, and they finally got there 7 yr. venter on motion control's right but it was to late.

MS came to the plate hard and even though I still believe that live is just as good as PSN. it's impossible to take away or not acknowledge there changes to the industry MS brought with them.

Wii a new way to play? Yes,. Innovative? No. changed the industry yet again. You bet your sweet ass! With Mario Galaxy and every core title Ninty published they managed make those ip fill fresh and new and we'll likely see a repeat when Wiiu launches in 2012.

Developer's

Irrational games: Bioshock was a major change of pace and I'm sure infinite will be nothing short of a thrill ride when released in 2012.

All Sony studios and exclusive Dev. teams except Zipper interactive. From UC to LBP near everything published by Sony had some form of innovation in it and Journey thatgamecompany will be another testament to Sony's growing list of creative dev. teams.

Small Indie dev's. need i say more?

Epic games/People can fly: Bulletstorm and GEARS imo are hard games to top and continues the innovation seen this gen.

Valve: Who knew a game could be a college course? Damn sure not me. L4D is another one of those addictive shooters that you just can't put down, and will keep you playing for yr.'s to come and well after release.

Pyramid, SCE Japan Studio: Patapon looked like so much fun and then some. I hope this team can continue its award winning work.

And that should do it.

damn i misspelled venture. oh well i'm not changing it.

well pretty much all Sony Studios
but specifically Naughty Dog and Guerrilla Games.
Coming from mediocre at best Killzone 1, to the great Killzone 2, then the nearly perfect Killzone 3.
Guerrilla really step it up.

others would be Rocksteady

SCEA, Atlus, Naughty Dog, Quantic Dreams (They only made one game this gen, but damn it was awesome), That Game Company, Bioware (They made Western RPGs appealing), From Software, Activision (I don't like the majority of their games, but they are extremely successful this gen), EA (See Activision....), Capcom.

I am the Playstation Avenger.

Bethesda - Oblivion, Fallout 3, Skyrim...three of the best RPG's of all time.

Naughty Dog - Uncharted series

Infinity Ward - Although MW2 sucks dicks and MW3 needs some desperate patching done ASAP....I still give them credit for making Call of Duty 4 which is easily in the top 3 (if not the best) FPS of all time.

DICE - hahahahahha just kidding Campfield...errr....I mean Battlefield sucks more ass than MW2. Seriously BF fanboys say CoD has terrible camping (which it does) but its worse in BF3. And the spawns are horrible as well, can't even tell you how many times I've either spawned on a tank...or spawned 3 miles back from the action with no vehicles near me so I have to go for a 3 mile run.

hey Seece i'm going to barrow your post. no need to thank me. Warner Bros, from practically nothing to Mortal Kombat and Batman.

lol 3 fucking miles! you've got to be kidding? i would have quit.

Although Zipper may have failed a little bit with SOCOM 4, I think they did something right with MAG. It was definitely a very fun game to play, and the 256 player mode was extremely fun.

From Software without a doubt, they were next to nothing , now they have a well established fan base, they created an epic and challenging formula for the RPG genre,... so unique

Sony first party studios, especially Naughty Dogs, their name almost equals high quality nowadays.

Quantic Dream, Heavy Rain .... enough said.
