LMAO!!! ow man that was good? they got rid of the confusing clutter?? THat what MADE it a good JRPG, FF13 is just a really expensive dungeon crawler and if anyone was ever confused in a FF game then that person clearly was an idiot and had no buisness playing in the first place.

Genesis??? I love Crisis Core as much as the next guy but no one knows who the hell that is. THat guy was a cornball and he was easy to kill.

You need to move on. JRPGs have changed for the better, just like all genres. New technology enables developrs to improve their games and make them as they always wanted to make them, no longer constrained by the limits of technology. We can see clearly in FF13 how Squeenix have embraced the more advanced technology of the PS360 and how it has allowed them to do so much more with the franchise.

We truly live in the golden age of gaming.

And as for Genesis, he is truly the greatest character Squeeenix have ever made. Just listen to him recite Loveless, a poem of genuine literary merit:

My friend, do you fly away now?
To a world that abhors you and I?
All that awaits you is a somber morrow
No matter where the winds may blow

Such amazing use of language! Such a masterful grasp of metre and grammar! Such heartfelt sentiments! Such originality!

He is a character of incredible depth and maturity.

You are fast becoming one of my favorite posters.

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

I think developer wise, I'd say Rock Steady and Media Molecule, as they'd never made any large game before, but have both become very good developers in a short space of time

publisher wise, I'd say Sony for sure, with countless exclusives coming out, and then EA, with them changing their image from a publisher who relied on FIFA and Madden, to a publisher who brought us Dead Space and loads of new franchises this gen

LMOA!! ok man, if you believe that walking down corridors and fighting lame monsters with a meh battle system for 40 hours is doing more with the franchise then give them your sixty bucks. Ill stick to my older and portable JRPGS. Cheaper and more fun for me

They did far more with the franchise.

You see, the point of Final Fantasy is to tell a story, to immerse the gamer in another world. Squeenix got rid of the tired, menu driven gameplay and time-wasting exploration of previous games and told a story. They were able to tell this story only because of:

1. The superior technology of the PS3: photorealistic graphics are essential for immersing players in a different world, and this is why they are the priority for modern devs, and why fans and game journalists alike obsessively compare the graphical capabilities of consoles; the console with the best graphics will have the best games.

2. Streamlining the game by getting rid of unnecessary and wasteful elements like towns, mazes and complex battle systems.

Squeenix used to be the GNU+Linux of the gaming world, always concerned with things of interest only to the hardcore and creating products that are a mish-mash of unnecessary features. They are now the Apple of the gaming world, great innovators producing games that are sleek and elegant with all the useless or confusing elements removed.

ROFL!!! Too bad the story sucked. Should have just saved my money and watched Advent Children for the 10th time, hell Spirits Within had a better story and thats saying something.

The Spirits Within was a work of genius. It showed what Square was capable of when they weren't held back by the technological limitations of consoles.

FF13 was the first time they were able to use the creativity and storytelling ability shown in TSW for the purpose of making a game.
