I was to harsh so i'll make a small list.

Publisher: the big 3 but Sony would have to be number 1. Followed by MS at 2. And the big N at 3. Sony innovated with great new ip that no other publisher could match, and they finally got there 7 yr. venter on motion control's right but it was to late.

MS came to the plate hard and even though I still believe that live is just as good as PSN. it's impossible to take away or not acknowledge there changes to the industry MS brought with them.

Wii a new way to play? Yes,. Innovative? No. changed the industry yet again. You bet your sweet ass! With Mario Galaxy and every core title Ninty published they managed make those ip fill fresh and new and we'll likely see a repeat when Wiiu launches in 2012.

Developer's

Irrational games: Bioshock was a major change of pace and I'm sure infinite will be nothing short of a thrill ride when released in 2012.

All Sony studios and exclusive Dev. teams except Zipper interactive. From UC to LBP near everything published by Sony had some form of innovation in it and Journey thatgamecompany will be another testament to Sony's growing list of creative dev. teams.

Small Indie dev's. need i say more?

Epic games/People can fly: Bulletstorm and GEARS imo are hard games to top and continues the innovation seen this gen.

Valve: Who knew a game could be a college course? Damn sure not me. L4D is another one of those addictive shooters that you just can't put down, and will keep you playing for yr.'s to come and well after release.

Pyramid, SCE Japan Studio: Patapon looked like so much fun and then some. I hope this team can continue its award winning work.

And that should do it.

Although Zipper may have failed a little bit with SOCOM 4, I think they did something right with MAG. It was definitely a very fun game to play, and the 256 player mode was extremely fun.

yea MAG was different and fun but i don't give credit for 50% or going 1 for 2.

Square-Enix has had their best generation ever. Their games since they merged have been far better than the ones they made when they were separate companies. The Final Fantasy franchise has shown a particularly great improvement.

Is this sarcasm?

I'm being deadly serious.

Just look at how they improved the mainline FF series with XIII. They streamlined the game and got rid of unnecessary clutter that confuses gamers, and instead focused on creating an even more immersive experience.

Or look at how they saved the FFVII franchise. Crisis Core filled all the plotholes from the original game and introduced well-liked characters such as Genesis who are vital for our understanding of the story and make everything much clearer. They did an especially good job on rounding out the characters of Cloud and Sephiroth, making them much more appealing to a modern audience. It's far harder for non-FF7 fans to criticise Cloud and Sephy-kun now.

LMAO!!! ow man that was good? they got rid of the confusing clutter?? THat what MADE it a good JRPG, FF13 is just a really expensive dungeon crawler and if anyone was ever confused in a FF game then that person clearly was an idiot and had no buisness playing in the first place.

Genesis??? I love Crisis Core as much as the next guy but no one knows who the hell that is. THat guy was a cornball and he was easy to kill.

On a serious note. SE the dev is meh, their console offerings have sucked. But the handhelds are a different story. Crisis COre, Dissidia, TWENY, KH BBS & 358 days are better than anything they put out on consoles this gen. The publishing side is actually good, im shocked that they had Eidos pull their head out of their ass oh sure there was teh Kane & Lynch but for every one of those we got a Just Cause2, a Deus Ex, Lara Croft etc.

No one has mentioned R*. I had to force myself through GTA4 but ended up enjoying it. Having played L.A. Noire and RDR I am really looking forward to #5. These are sprawling, ambitious games set in beautifully realized worlds. Decent QA too.

Bethesda are still my fav and I've had few of the problems I read about here. I'd put up with a lot more to get that feeling of being footloose and heavily armed they always give me. FYI Oblivion had a difficulty slider that could correct scaling issues on console. Just sayin.

Ubi have made huge strides with the AC series and I'm sure titles like Just Dance etc. more than make up for anything PoP did financially. I still wish Prince of Persia had gotten more of their attention.

EA has done better and I give them credit for supporting Dead Space but Bioware had already built the Mass Effect universe and Dragon Age was in PC first production years before the buyout. EA can't take credit for either while the direction away from rpg staples to more linear gameplay is their idea. This makes for easier storytelling, better visuals and presentation and helps with the bottom line but are they better? ME yes, DA no. Jmos.

Bethesda - Oblivion, Fallout 3, Skyrim...three of the best RPG's of all time.

Naughty Dog - Uncharted series

Infinity Ward - Although MW2 sucks dicks and MW3 needs some desperate patching done ASAP....I still give them credit for making Call of Duty 4 which is easily in the top 3 (if not the best) FPS of all time.

DICE - hahahahahha just kidding Campfield...errr....I mean Battlefield sucks more ass than MW2. Seriously BF fanboys say CoD has terrible camping (which it does) but its worse in BF3. And the spawns are horrible as well, can't even tell you how many times I've either spawned on a tank...or spawned 3 miles back from the action with no vehicles near me so I have to go for a 3 mile run.

hey Seece i'm going to barrow your post. no need to thank me. Warner Bros, from practically nothing to Mortal Kombat and Batman.

lol 3 fucking miles! you've got to be kidding? i would have quit.

That's an exaggeration but I have spawned 1 1/2 kilometres from any action. It shows the distance you are from the objectives in metres and I was 1500 metres from the nearest objective. The first time it happened I got almost all the way there and got sniped by some camper, the second time I took your advice and quit.

Sony, no doubt about it.
Various new Highquality Ips like Motorstorm, Infamous, Uncharted, LittleBigPlanet, Resistance and Heavy Rain and making great sequels to already established franchises like killzone and god of war, almost 60% of all my ps3 games are published by sony.

I was ready to go right out and say Ubisoft (Assassin's Creed is a huge step forward from Prince of Persia), but after reading some other peoples points and reflecting...

I say Nintendo First, then Bioware.

I disagree with that. Prince of Persia: Sands of Time was one of my favorite games on the original Xbox, though Assassin's Creed is really good as well.

I'd probably go with Bethesda though. I went from not owning any of their games last gen, to them being one of my favorite developers/publishers this gen.

Prince of Persia was alright last gen, but Prince of Persia (cell chaded) is better then the older ones IMO. However Assassin's Creed is a much bigger game then Prince of Persia. Either way, everyone has their own opinion, I though Assassin's Creed was one of the first games to properly use the HD system capabilitities, and from the start it was a great game.

Bethesda also is a really good pick, but to be fair Oblivion isn't that different from Morrowind. Skyrim and Fallout are where that developer shines, and yea I was in the same boat as you before, I love Fallout 3 so much I bought Fallout 1, and 2 for PC (Not bethesda, but still).

You need to move on. JRPGs have changed for the better, just like all genres. New technology enables developrs to improve their games and make them as they always wanted to make them, no longer constrained by the limits of technology. We can see clearly in FF13 how Squeenix have embraced the more advanced technology of the PS360 and how it has allowed them to do so much more with the franchise.

We truly live in the golden age of gaming.

And as for Genesis, he is truly the greatest character Squeeenix have ever made. Just listen to him recite Loveless, a poem of genuine literary merit:

My friend, do you fly away now?
To a world that abhors you and I?
All that awaits you is a somber morrow
No matter where the winds may blow

Such amazing use of language! Such a masterful grasp of metre and grammar! Such heartfelt sentiments! Such originality!

He is a character of incredible depth and maturity.

I'm going to make a possible prediction. Next generation I think the publisher who will really step up most could be THQ. The company has been backed into a corner and you never corner a wolf. They have decided to make higher quality internal titles rather then rely on cheaply made licenses. They also are throwing their support behind WiiU, big support and appear to be on the ball when it comes to next gen consoles.

If THQ really pulls all the stops and puts all of its energy and efforts into bringing high quality origional and successful IP to tnext generation consoles. If THQ takes Ubi's position as Nintendo's biggest supporter and solidifies a position as one of the big publishers once again. Then they could very well be next generations biggest step up publisher.
