Forums - Sales - Microsoft: 960k 360's sold during Black Friday Week in U.S

I knew the 360 was going to dominate. It was all about 360 and 3DS at my job. Poor PS3 can't catch a break though.

I'll be interested to see if 2012 shows same pattern or whether Kinect will now have enough install base/momentum to see more consistent demand.

The thing (at least in my opinion) with Kinect is it is a seperate piece of hardware, but requires the original piece of hardware.  This in and of itself puts a limit on what Kinect can do in regards to sales.

How much of a limit?  It is impossible to tell, but there will always be the people that either:

A.) Don't want/like it as an add-on

B.) Don't wish to pay for an additional accessory (they feel what they have is already enough)

This isn't to say that future sales will not still be very high, it just needs to be considered when looking at the potential success of Kinect throughout the future.

Yeah, that makes sense.  I guess if you have 1,000 Kinects given as gifts then a percentage will actually be (politely no doubt) ignored if the recipient has no interest.  Follow up sales will therefore be lower as they would be driven by the true, active base vs the larger base.

I now have the image of some 23 year old Gears and Halo fan getting the Kinect with Gunstringer/Adventures bundle from his aunt and rolling his eyes in my head.

Actually to be honest with you its just that Vgchartz seems to have a lot of trouble tracking software that isn't "large scale".  Lots of more casual mainstream games like the Cabela's Hunting series and many others are significantly undertracked on this site.

Its currently happening with Dance Central 2, Kinect Sports Season 2, and a some of the more niche / casual Kinect games.  Trust me Kinect is pushing software.

Are they off by much or is it within the margin of error?

Love the product, not the company. They love your money, not you.

I'm not quite certain where people get this misconception.  There are quite a lot of PS3 games that are Move compatible.  Just because a game isn't ONLY for the move doesn't mean you can just exclude it.

Money can't buy happiness. Just video games, which make me happy.

I dont know if you got offended of my comment. I didn't mean such thing. Im just saying that there are more recognizable Kinect games than PS move games out there... specially this year...

I mean like Kinect has 2 games out of 4 on the "Best motion game of the year" category in VGA awards... While PS move has none.

I dont mean to offend anyone at all... no sir! Im jusr saying what I think

Yay!!!

Good for MS... LEts see if it can take best year or better over take SONY.

Well my predictions where way off for Wii. MS will be off Unless it can hit 1.25 million unit sales or over every week here on out, not likely. the only one I got right was maybe sony.

I think Kinect Star Wars 360 will move a good amount of systems. So we will see what that can do.

960k... Congratulations Microsoft,
7 years and still demonstrating how good the decision to come into the console market was :)

Didn't half the people on this site say XBox 360 was dead after the PS3 Slim launched? lol!! One of the main differences between the Xbox 360/Wii and the PS3 is I believe these two systems have more casual gamers, while the PS3 have just a few more hardcore gamers. Most casual gamers buy the bulk of their systems and software during the holiday season. Hardcore gamers will buy hardware/software at any time during the year. They don't care. I don't think the PS3 has ever won a holiday (Oct, Nov, Dec months) against the 360.

so with our numbers putting PS3 flat yoy, the 360 should erode the gap 500k+ this week?

The numbers shown on te Preview for the 360 was  terribly off. I expect PS3 to sell 600k this week just in the U.S.A. And for the WW numbers why aren't you including Canada, South America e.t.c. is it really that hard to track?

Microsoft released their PR statement for Black Friday week and they stated that the 360 outsold the PS3 3 to 1 during the period. Since 960k 360's were sold that means about 320k PS3s were sold, which is close to  VGChartz's estimates. It looks like the 360 outsold the PS3 by about 640k during Black Friday week in the US alone.

That isn't surprising considering how great the bundles were for 360. The PS3 bundles were not nearly as enticing.
