For me overrated means realizing, in retrospect, that the game either wasn't nearly as good as thought, or it's impact was much less than it seemed.

So GTA IV for me is a good example because after the frenzy of hype and critical praise it dawned that, actually, the game has had minimal impact in general and that the game itself was only decent, with little really groundbreaking or amazing about it. In short, GTA IV was judged based on the impact of the games that came before it but had far less impact nor was actually as good as them.

Few games are truly overrated, mostly people just say something the don't like is overrated. But GTA IV I think genuinely is. However I think this is generally accepted anyway.

your one of the few that makes sense, as usual

agreed... but then again GTA created the genre.... so like I said in my post most of those serialized games are living on the legacy of the original.... and people still think they are the best in the lot.... it's like movies.... first one is usually the best... at number 5 they suck but people still go see it because they are use to it and there isn't really any solid competition yet.... cause like I asked if those ones are overated which one are the AAA gaames in the genre??? cause they might be overated but they usually still pound the competition (a lot because they have more production money in the first place anyway) it's like star wars yeah the 3 last (first) ones weren't as orgasmic but what better space opera you have seen really ?? same with indiana jones beside the boobs I still rather watch an indi than a lara croft movie :D

Very true, we give alot of crap to GTA4 but the truth of the matter is, are there a slew of better games in that genre that released this gen. RDR from what i hear is the same game but in old west setting. I love Just Cause 2 and IMHO that game is more fun. But i would never consider it a better game than GTA, the cars control worse, the combat is worse. the story is much , much worse and shorter. I have a love hate relation with GTA myself. I started to like it, but about half way through i was bored, Nico is just ok, the story is meh at best, the vehicles controls go ok(cars) to bad(bikes) to terrible(the helicopter), but once i got BOGT and LAD i loved it, the stories are better the characters are better, weapons better, more variety to do. bikes are better. Dare i say the DLC actually is better than the regular game. Matter of fact i wouldnt mind if GTA5 takes a multiperson approach, play with 3 characters each having a shorter story that intertwines so the narrative doesnt get bogged down

oh yeah yeah, I was talking in general about the series the OP named... they set a standard and usually have a higher production value than the competition just because they have the money.... and like movies in that business it does help a lot.....

what I wonder really is if what people say here about widely recognised AAA games being overated what are the AAA games.... cause I don't know many underated games that deserve an AAA rank over those sited.... even those dmitedly being overated... so yeah don't give them 90% grade but then take down some point on the other too and we end up with the same ranking just with no game over 90% doesn't change a thing at the end of the day.....

btw I love the concept of just cause so much fun but to me it was more a mini game about messing around with all the crasy stuff you can do but I was spending hours doing it though(what a waste of time no kiding I hardly finish any game needing more than 30 hours now a days lol :P )

i have to disagree with your reasons for calling OOT overrated

Thew games that are truly overrated are games that are essentially M-rated on Nintendo platforms (like Madworld, No More Heroes, Conduit, etc...), and on Sony and Microsoft consoles the games that are more Nintendo-like (Modnation Racers, Little Big Planet, Tomba! etc...).

I describe myself as a little dose of toxic masculinity.

I don't see how God of War is overrated. When God of War is always overlooked. No one I know plays God of war besides me they know its a good game but they're just not the type.Plus I never hear anyone hype God of War up.Plus you said that you hate Kratos with a passion but I doubt you even played the whole series.
This is just my two cents.
Everything else I think belongs there.Especially Halo it truly deserves numero uno.

I'm not playing GTA4, Halo Series(I try to play the first 1 and I think I can get your point), but I absolutely not agree with the rest of it except Bioshock.
You just keep telling this is great game but not that great, etc2.
So I want to know, what exactly top of your list but not overrated?

why is god of war there? what a joke...

I played the first two God of War games, haven't gotten around to 3 yet because I didn't like the first two all that much.  boringly simple puzzles, horrible generic hack and slash gameplay, no difficulty at all except cheap environmental deaths, and a horrible story in every way.  Character was a complete prick to the point I not only didn't like him but actively wished him to have a pike jammed through his eye hole; the story was poorly told (seriously, I had practically NO idea what was going on until the end of the first game. the sequel improved here but not much better); and it was just...a mediocre game with endless hype for some stupid reason.  Everyone goes on about how awesome it is, how deep and engaging the story is, and how Kratos is a tragic hero, and I just have to laugh.  these people do not know quality storytelling at ALL.

Holy crap... is it a conspiracy?? I agree with the M rated Ninty games but not the HD ones. Not because im anti Ninty but those games on Ninty have way better counterparts out there. I would say even on there own systems. Despite what you might feel about MNR and LBP, they did bring something different to there respective genres. Cant really say the same for MadWorld, NMH and definately Conduit.

What about Wii Play?? 9 games there and only 2 are worth a damn
