Oblivion had a fair amount of bugs, but after 3 playthroughs I barely encountered any, and nothing was gamebreaking. I got much more enjoyment out of the side quests than the actual main story which was very dull. The AI was subpar in Deus Ex??? Did we play the same game? I have not encountered AI as smart and overpowering as was offered in Deus Ex in a long time ... I really can't think of one game this gen off the top of my head with better AI. Maybe it is poor on the lower difficulties, but I am not sure since I played on the "Give Me Deus Ex" setting. I got no arguments on the graphical front as it really did need some work there, but I think if they had just made the pre-rendered cutscenes better than people would have let the rest slide ... kind of funny a Square published game had such low quality pre-rendered when that is about all Square can usually do right with most of its games. The main character was not exactly the most developed, but there were at least a few side missions that dealt with him not to mention the emails/pda's and the banter he exchanges with his colleagues and enemies. I think the idea is that the game revolves around player choice so, in a way, you develop Adam kind of like how you develop Shepard in Mass Effect. I never noticed a problem with too many boxes ... and the amount of stealth, like I said, is entirely dependent on the player, but the point I made was that the game actively rewards you for stealth unlike Metal Gear (recent ones) and Assassin's Creed series ... even if you get caught in Assassin's Creed you can still just kill every guard in the area since the combat system is broken completely by the all powerful counter attack (RT + X will win you every fight). L.A. Noire was rather overrated, but it deserves credit for trying something different instead of being just another GTA clone, and I thought the facial capture was excellent. |
The bolded to me, signifies a bad game. I bought the GOTY edition because I just couldn't resist the praise it was getting and had to check it out for myself. I let myself down on that one.
I hope we did, because the AI in the game I was playing didn't mind their friends disappearing while on patrol. They also didn't mind dying single file while I was hiding in an air duct. In terms of stealth, I like some of the clever ways they let you sneak around (which makes you feel bad-ass when discovered), but they're not on par with MGS and I've heard it's a step backwords for the series. I've never played the original games, but I've been told that they the AI used to detect shadows as well.
The revelations about the main character's past in the side mission was a little odd to me. They make the player have a WTF moment instead of showing the protagonist's reaction. Jensen never changes up his emotion save for a few instances when he gets angry, but 90% of the game, he's in bad-ass mode and he becomes less fleshed out because of this.
L.A. Noire is like Assassin's Creed 1 to me. It has grerat ideas and poor execution. The gameplay is refreshing until about halfway through the game, but becomes repetetive soon after. The logic also breaks down toward the end of the game (I made a thread about this), which really killed the game for me. The game had a lot of promise though, and for the most part I enjoyed it, but its faults were overlooked.
EDIT: Also, most of L.A. Noire's side missions and the final 45 minutes was GTA 101(Car chase + gun fight).
I am the Playstation Avenger.

No, but we're clearly in a minority.
Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...
