I would save the kid's life and go to jail.

I probably would not have given this answer when I used to drink though.

I would save the kid, but the OP says i'm only a little drunk so we can assume i never jumped some curbs ran up the side walk and over the kids.

Once i arrive at the hospital i make up some crazy story about the kids jumped out of nowhere and i was unable to brake in time. I then try my best to save the child and help anyway i can as i assume i never just threw the kid in my trunk and drove him to the hospital. Get into a panic about how i killed two kids, start going on about how could God do this and about not wanting to live in this world anymore then try to kill myself in the hospital. Security and hospital staff then drug and wrestle me to get me under control, i then pass out until sometime the next day.

Now the cops are involved at the hospital. The booze will be out of my system, and my ramblings and nonsensical attitude will continue. Now you show a deep concern over the life of the child, and start praying openly to god for the life of the child. You start saying how they can use your organs or blood to save the child and scream it and cause a scene.

Now we have no proof i was driving drunk, and my deep concern for the child is known to both the Hospital and the police. I will then continue to ride out with crazy stories and other nonsense to secure my stance not as a drunk driver. But as a responsable and caring individual, who tried my best to save this kid and was so broken hearted by the incident i tried to take my own life and had to be drugged to stop from freaking out.

I figure there is a decent chance of being awarded for my effort to save this child, during this freak unavoidable accident. And i continue with efforts to have more lights placed in the streets, school awarness programs about the dangers of going out at night and playing around traffic. Set up more crosswalks, and open some sort of charity fund in the childs name.

Now i'm a hero with the people and i move forward with my efforts to create a better and safer place to raise our children. I figure i run for local office and continue my way up the politcal ladder until i'm mayor then continue from there. I now make some safetly products and use my position as mayor to get them in schools and other local communities. Using local tax cuts and other "legal" methods to push my products until it keeps spreading.

10years later i'm worth over 10million and running for a higher office at the top of the state or province.

I would reverse and run over the living kid a few times to spare him a slow death.

But really, I would eat the bullet and go to jail.

shit man honestly, looking at the stats of the poll most of are what could typically be classed as psychopaths! Seriuosly you could live with letting a child die to save yourself from a hard time in prison. The lifetime of guilt I would feel after doing something like that would far outweigh the hardships of time spent in prison so by saving the kid and taking the jail term I would save myself alot of hardship.

Why would people run away?Be a fucking man, it is your fault that this situation happened so suffer the consequences and learn. You killed and innocent kid and ruined a family for life so why should you get away with it?

I know the scenario has some major loop-holes in it. I don't have the time & energy to create a perfect one. That wasn't my purpose. I justed wanted to know how people would react if they had to choose between their freedom & someone else's life. The scenario is merely secondary. It's Meant for those questioning the possibility of the situation as opposed to telling what they would do.

If you want to point out the faults in my scenario, then go ahead. I know it's not perfect. But at least let me know what you would do if somehow you were in the most unfortunate predicament & you did have to make this choice. I'm really interested in what people would do if this happened, not so much in the possibility of this actually happening.

I really just wanted to ask "would you save a life you put in danger, if you knew you wer going to jail?" I know it's impossible for this to ever turn up, that's why I made the thread. I made the scenario to just prove the scenario can actually occur. I guess I've failed.

Heheheh. I was just trying to elicit this exact response. :p

In all actuality, this kind of scenario would probably end in jail either way. Most likely, when hitting the child, you'd damage your car as well as leave paint on their body, especially in the circumstances this scenario implies.

The paint would mean the police would narrow it down to the paint manufacturer, then put out an APB for any vehicles with any damage shown up front from that manufacturer. Unless you immediately hid your car, cleaned it, and repaired it, while the police search for you (and hope that they don't look through driver records quickly/early enough), you'd be caught within hours.

With that said, you WILL be looked more favourably upon if you do what you can to remedy the situation - save the child's life, turn yourself in, etc. The fact that you were under the influence will work very negatively for you, though, so you'll probably still be made an example of.

Fleeing has a small chance of working in your favour, but it's unlikely and you'll probably still get caught. And then you'll be hit with extra charges and the judge won't feel sorry for you whatsoever.

So, the other option would be to kill the second kid as well, then gather up both of their bodies and dispose of them. This can still end unfavorably, and is super super evil, but has the greatest chance of success.

Either way, I'd never be in this situation because I don't drink. But if I were to run over and kill a kid and severely injure the other, I'd freak out but I'd do what's right and take what's coming to me.

i will do what every sane person should do, i will get the kid into my car and drive it to the hospital to save his life

and then i will tell the police what happened:

i had too much to drink and hired some kid to drive me home, but we had an accident and when he realized he killed a kid he got scared and he run away, so i took the risk and drove the car myself to save the kids life.

“It appeared that there had even been demonstrations to thank Big Brother for raising the chocolate ration to twenty grams a week. And only yesterday, he reflected, it had been announced that the ration was to be reduced to twenty grams a week. Was it possible that they could swallow that, after only twenty-four hours? Yes, they swallowed it.”

- George Orwell, ‘1984’

Take responsibility and take the kid to a hospital.

I'd probably drop the kid off at the hospital and drive away.

I know the cameras would identify my car but the cops can't prove you were drunk the night before if they come arrest/question you the next day. Then I would just lawyer up and not say a word to the cops.

Although if it was out in the middle of nowhere I would be highly tempted to just drive away. Especially if it wasn't my fault (the kid ran out onto the road or something).

! If you save him, then he'll tell that you killed his friend.

For the last paragraph. Yeah, that's the point. It's just you, the kid, & the dead kid. No one else is there.

You say you would be tempted to drive away, but would you?

If driving away (letting the kid die) guaranteed my freedom than yeah I'd just drive off. Especially if I was a bit drunk and not thinking rationally.
