Jay520 said: @theonestar & theLivingShadow I know the scenario has some major loop-holes in it. I don't have the time & energy to create a perfect one. That wasn't my purpose. I justed wanted to know how people would react if they had to choose between their freedom & someone else's life. The scenario is merely secondary. It's Meant for those questioning the possibility of the situation as opposed to telling what they would do. If you want to point out the faults in my scenario, then go ahead. I know it's not perfect. But at least let me know what you would do if somehow you were in the most unfortunate predicament & you did have to make this choice. I'm really interested in what people would do if this happened, not so much in the possibility of this actually happening. I really just wanted to ask "would you save a life you put in danger, if you knew you wer going to jail?" I know it's impossible for this to ever turn up, that's why I made the thread. I made the scenario to just prove the scenario can actually occur. I guess I've failed. |
Heheheh. I was just trying to elicit this exact response. :p
In all actuality, this kind of scenario would probably end in jail either way. Most likely, when hitting the child, you'd damage your car as well as leave paint on their body, especially in the circumstances this scenario implies.
The paint would mean the police would narrow it down to the paint manufacturer, then put out an APB for any vehicles with any damage shown up front from that manufacturer. Unless you immediately hid your car, cleaned it, and repaired it, while the police search for you (and hope that they don't look through driver records quickly/early enough), you'd be caught within hours.
With that said, you WILL be looked more favourably upon if you do what you can to remedy the situation - save the child's life, turn yourself in, etc. The fact that you were under the influence will work very negatively for you, though, so you'll probably still be made an example of.
Fleeing has a small chance of working in your favour, but it's unlikely and you'll probably still get caught. And then you'll be hit with extra charges and the judge won't feel sorry for you whatsoever.
So, the other option would be to kill the second kid as well, then gather up both of their bodies and dispose of them. This can still end unfavorably, and is super super evil, but has the greatest chance of success.
Either way, I'd never be in this situation because I don't drink. But if I were to run over and kill a kid and severely injure the other, I'd freak out but I'd do what's right and take what's coming to me.
