Apple products are overpriced and overated. Unless your line of work deals with mac tech, your better of with a cheaper and better alternatives.

If I am getting a new phone this year, it'll be the iPhone 5. I can't see any other phone being nearly as good.

There phones people not Consoles you dont have to buy into every generation, Millions of peoples phone contracts end every year, so for those looking to switch contracts and upgrade it makes nothing but perfect sense that you have a top of the line phone out every year to entice those renewing customers.

It really is simple people.

OT Do i want an iPhone 5? How can anyone answer that its not revealed until October 4th, Could be a slight upgrade, could be a massive upgrade who knows?

For me to upgrade tho i would want a bigger screen than that of my current 3GS, it seems small compared to the Samsung Galaxy.

well I got an iphone 4 so no iphone 5 for me .

I won't ever spend gazillions for an iPhone or accept robbery contracts with telcos to get it cheaper: for now I'm fine with my old 39€ (now it costs even less) Nokia dumbphone, later I'll get a cheap but feature rich Android smartphone, I'm currently thinking about an Alcatel OneTouch 990 or anything better for at most its price (list price 179€, but I find it still a little too expensive for my tastes) or less.

After several iPods that "wore out" in less than a year, Apple is fairly low on the list of products to look at ...

The two iPods that bothered me the most were the ones where the headphone jack wore out. I owned a Sony sports walkman for (at least) 5 years and plugged the headphones in and out several times a day and the headphone jack was as good as new when I dropped it down the stairs and ended its life; I then replaced that with a Panasonic CD player that also survived more than 5 years with the headphones being plugged in and out several times a day. But I have owned two iPods where the headphone jack wore out in 6 to 9 months from being plugged in before my workout and plugged out after my workout; and the iPod I owned before that had the USB port wear out because I foolishly synced my iPod daily.

I might just be a cynic but I believe that Apple has purposefully designed their products to survive until they release their next model. This wouldn't bother me if they were priced to be disposable products, but when you charge a premium price I expect a premium product.

Thats the exact opposite experience ive had with apple products and why i continue to buy them. Sounds like bad luck based on my experience and familys but it seems you have different luck haha.

OT: I cant see a reason to upgrade my 3gs until the new iOS isnt compatible or a 64 GB iphone comes out. Maybe for 4G but its not widespread enough for me to upgrade because of 4G.

Its funny that people actually automatically may think its time to upgrade if a new Iphone is out.

I received Iphone 4 from work about 4 months ago as my work phone and I really don't see why anyone would want this device so badly over a Window Phone or Android. Sure the hardware is maybe a bit slicker...but so is the price tag. The OS and user experience however isn't any better or worse than competition. Just different...

In fact there are multiple basic things which I find Iphone lacks compared to windows phone 7 that I wouldn't want to trade for a slicker screen or better camera.

Things like:

Spell check in search and maps, iphone doesn't have it, WP7 does.
Spell check and voice recognition in general sucks on the iphone.
App store needs password every time you log in, WP7 doesn't.
Lock screen on iphone is poorly utilized and vague.
Sure Iphone has lots of apps but their integration with other apps is non existent.
Can't sync phone numbers from Sim card.

Some people may find issues like this with Windows phones or Androids.

The bottom line is, all 3 devices are fairly similar with slight minor differences, if you want the basic smartphone experience. Why would anyone rush to "upgrade" to iphone 5?

Spell check and voice recognition in general sucks on the iphone. Spell check is awesome. I don't use voice recognition at all, so I can't judege.
App store needs password every time you log in, WP7 doesn't. App store doesn't ask for the password each time you log in..
Lock screen on iphone is poorly utilized and vague.
Sure Iphone has lots of apps but their integration with other apps is non existent. wat. I am never bothered by that. The real point is the app store is THE best.
Can't sync phone numbers from Sim card. oh please, SIM card syncing is ANNOYING and I never used it. Always had to copy them to pc by using nokia pc suit and then copy them to my new device. I don't miss it all now and I didn't know that the iphone lacks that "feature" actually.
