So yah I know Nintendo's press conference was a precursor to TGS so obviously it would be mainly aimed at Japan. However with a big announcement like Monster Hunter 4 and Fire Emblem. Fire Emblem games in the past went unreleased in the West and Monster Hunter sells alright but not a big title for the west. In fact Japanese studios seem to be responsible for the majority of the titles coming to 3DS at least all the important ones.
Now yah there are still some titles coming from outside Japan.
However Rol suggests and other users support his suggestion that Nintendo is paying Capcom off. Bribing them with special treatment and money essentially doing everything they can to get Monster Hunter. Similar things have been said about Metal Gear Solid and Tekken, gamers here on VGChartz actually believe Nintendo is spending good money to keep these developers and publishers support.
So if Rol and other users are correct and Nintendo is bending over back words and paying out the ying yang to get support from Capcom , Konami and NamcoBandai. What about the west?
AssasinsCreed:Lost Legacy one of the biggest titles slated for 3DS from UbiSoft who Nintendo claimed to be their biggest third party supporter, was cancelled. Further more CoD:MW3 origionally hinted at being on 3DS was confirmed to only be on DS. UbiSoft has scaled back development for 3DS and no major new announcements have come out of any of the major third parties in North America.
Infact Assassin's Creed sold over 9-million copies with one of its titles (on PS3/360) and on PSP it sold over a million copies. Sure the DS versions didn't do that well but they also weren't developed by UbiSoft rather GameLoft. This Assassins Creed was going to be developed internally by one of the most talented teams at UbiSoft.
So why is it Capcom one of Nintendo's smaller supporters getting paid off for a title while UbiSoft who is widely credited as Nintendo's biggest third party supporter is cancelling one of the most anticipated 3DS games?
Now Rol obviously pointed out that MH is very important to Nintendo's market dominance in Japan. But what about Nintendo's ability to compete in the West? Or Nintendo's future outside Japan? UbiSoft is the biggest third party supporter for Nintendo and they are willing to just turn their backs on UbiSoft in favor of Capcom?
Now I personally don't believe Nintendo is paying Capcom for MH4, but if they are then us North American gamers should be extremely upset. In fact even if Nintendo isn't paying off Capcom why is Nintendo focusing entirely on Japan and appeasing Japanese developers?
Disagree and think Nintendo is actually supporting North America and Europe. Look at the list of all the 3DS games launched and listed thus far. Here, see for yourself about 75%+ of all games developed and announced for 3DS come from Japanese developers and publishers. Then look at the few coming from the west and you'll note of those titles the majority come from UbiSoft.
Well with Nintendo recently loosing a lot of support from UbiSoft that leaves Japanese studios and games being pretty much the only content coming to 3DS.
Is Nintendo really going to kiss Japanese butt at the cost of North America? I know the Japanese market is important to Nintendo but look at North America, its a larger market and when you include Europe and the rest of the globe is it really worth loosing just to gain sales in Japan?
Is Nintendo abandoning its North American and European supporters in favor of Japan? If so what does this mean for Vita, already Activision, UbiSoft and EAGames are pledging huge support. If Vita gets all the North American titles like the announced Call Of Duty and Assasins Creed will Nintendo stand a chance in the west?
Does Nintendo need to realize North America and Europe's markets actually are larger and more important to their survival then Japan? Share holders and investors aren't going to be happy when Monster Hunter fails to sell significant numbers in NA and Europe while the Assasins Creed title Nintendo could have had tears it up with over a million copies.
Also UbiSoft has been Nintendo's biggest third party supporter. Its already announced 3 WiiU titles, what now? If UbiSoft cancelled Assassins Creed and scaled back 3DS development what about their support for future Nintendo platforms? Is Nintendo really willing to risk a WiiU failure all for the sake of boosting sales in Japan?
Do you think Nintendo needs to get its butt in action and start sucking up to Western studios? Or Can Nintendo actually sell well in the rest of the world with only Japanese games?
