Well, I wouldn't buy it ...

Then why try to put the blame on gamers instead of the company behind it?

Because the casual audience should live up to their reputation.

But the game in question was a core game which makes its target audience... people like yourself. You have failed Sega.

It's all blurry for you, I understand. It might have been a core game on Wii, but most certainly not on 360/Kinect.

3DS doing good, and it's supposed to the the silence before the explosion, cause Mario's on the way and Christmas too

That week will be scary. I'm really expecting 3DS sales to topple over every other console.

I wish Resistance 3 would've opened bigger.

Me too, it's the best game of the franchise, but with this opening it's looking to get the poorest sales. I guess to most FPS fans Online = everything.

Interesting to note that a "core" Kinect motion game on 360 didn't sell well at all. It didn't much better than many Wii games of a similar type.

I guess it wasn't the Wii audience to blame, but rather bad quality product.

I don't think it's either. Rise of Nightmares is an average game, but there was almost no advertizing for this game. I remember looking for a release date many times during the year, and only finding out about it a month before it released. This was a sleeper title, SEGA poorly advertized this game, they could have at least given a release date months before or something.

Also I just don't think the Kinect demograph wants a zombie game. Ryse is coming out soon (2012, but soon) and that will likely be the best FP...game for Kinect, and Dead Island also released the same week.

I blaime bad marketing, and a poorly planned release on SEGA's part. If they released it in October, far away from Dead Island, and Dance Central 2, maybe it could have gotten better sales.

It was advertised a lot on TV.  I think I saw the commercial for Rise of Nightmares more than the Resistance 3 commericials.

Anyway its expected that R3 has low numbers. No matter how good the game is it was bound to sell less than the previous games. PS3 gamers have way too many options right now and R3 is nothing special. I myself skipped it. I'm saving my money for Modern Warfare 3 and Uncharted 3.

Res3 not a great opening... will do better in EMEAA (or rather it should given the amount of advertising spend - its on TV almost permanently and in high profile programs too)

PS3 will be down quite a bit YOY for next few weeks. Wii is down YOY massively.... 360 awaits its price cut (massively down next week YOY (REACH anniversary)

3DS.. ok I guess... PSP needs Vita.

I've seen it a few times. 'Almost permanently' is a complete exaggeration. I've seen games advertised on the tv far, far more than it.

You are wrong, its never off... very heavily advertised.

I was having this discussion the other day with a PS3 fan on this very site.    For instance it was advrtised in  between all the live UK champions league games... thats expensive.

Do you have sky?  do you watch the commercial UK channels?

Yes I have Sky, that's why I commented.

As it's purely annecdotal how often we both see the ads, I guess we can't really debate this effectively. I'd say it's been advertised more than the usual Sony exclusive though, which usually gets about £1m in tv advertising expenditure in the UK, but nowhere near on the same level as some other high profile games advertised in the past, from what I've seen.

Anyway, it's a poor opening in NA, and I imagine the opening in EMEAA will be poor also.

It's not been that heavily advertised. Kowenicki said that it was heavily advertised during the UK CL games.

The champions league only started on Tuesday so I don't see how that helps with last weeks sales but maybe he meant looking foward.

It has been more heavily advertised over a longer period on channel 5 Playstation sponsored movies.

Regardless I don't see how champions league games between 7pm - 10pm and movies usually after 9pm equates to "permanently on". I will check the networks for a breakdown at work out of personal interest.

It's a bad opening for R2 and I don't expect wonders in Europe.

The game is rated M for mature, so it's most definitely a core game. Or can you think of one single M-rated game that isn't considered a core game?

Fable 3 Rated M fella

and even Rated 18+ in my country

Why are Super Mario Galaxy and Super Paper Mario here? Did Nintendo suddenly add them to the players choice games?

Also lol at Resistance, got outsold by Dead Island (360) and almost outsold by Dead Island (PS3). RE3 is under appreciated, but after RE2 I can understand why the user base isn't big. Online multiplayer is never active.

Bet no one noticed Rise of Nightmares. Guess that game isn't going to be budging Kinect sales.

Since the first announcement, IIRC

Oh I don't have tv, I live without it, so I never noticed. However when I go to a gamestore, I don't see posters, nothing on websites, and nothing on buses. I've seen Resistance 3 ads online, and on billboards, but nothing for Rise of Nightmares. I stand by my original point.

If PS3 owners have so many options, why is Dead Island selling numbers close to Resistance 3? Why are games like Killzone, Dues Ex, and InFamous 2 opening up to bigger launch weeks, sometimes significantly greater?

Resistance 3 has unique weapons, but a very generic feel, and online experience. Nothing about the game really makes it stand out, it has a fanbase the same size as Dead Space for a reason. It can be a good game, but just not appealing to most.
