Forums - Sony Discussion - When studio will start selecting PS3 as main platform in multiplatform game

@cringer8

Why not. You can easily port a game from a lower spec'd machine to a higher one.

They will put their money where it will get the best return. In the near future that will be obviously the Wii.

Does GHIII have anything different between the various versions? No. They all look the same from PS2 to Wii to 360 to PS3. I would bet it was build based on PS2 hardware since it was the lowest spec'd machine.

To spend less on development and create the maximum for returns they will build on Wii. Then port over to either 360 or PS3, depending who is leading, or both. Same as every other generation.

We all must remember that like 95% of all 3rd party games so far were funded and planned before this gen started. When everyone, except John Lucas, thought the Wii would be in third following the shrinking market of all other Nintendo home consoles since the NES.

Now, that Wii is clearly the dominating machine and trending to sell better than any video game console in history, why would devs not follow suit?

Does madden look the same on the Wii than it does on the XBOX 360 and to a lesser extent PS3. The obvious remains that thirdy-party games sell better on the XBOX 360, PS3, and PS2 more than they do on the Wii, the Wii will never be a lead platform for Multiplat games for the HD consoles because no one buys third party on there, and like cringer said, you can't just port a wii game to the HD consoles. Devs wouldn't follow suit even though it's winning because of the lackluster third party sales on the wii, compared to other consoles.

It's true that nobody buys games for the ps3, however that's not the same for Wii.

Games like Guitar Hero 3, Lego star wars, Simpsons game among other old releases are obviously very strong on Wii. The only games that failed on Wii are crappy EA games that lack huge features (for example NBA live without Dinasty mode, Fifa 08 without Carrer mode nor 'Be a pro', Need for speed without online, etc)

What they will do, is they will make the 360 one and port it to PS3 and maybe PC? They will also make a PS2 one, port it to Wii and tinker a lot, maybe port it to PSP as well, and then release a separate DS one

@ Carlos710

There are other third-party games that came out for the wii and haven't sold that much, not just three EA games.

If a game its going to be shared between the ps2/Wii, expect the Wii to be the lead SKU. It doesn't make sense to focus on the ps2 now when it's going to die in the next 12-24 months. Wii it's going to be here for a very long time

And nobody it's going to make the psp the lead SKU, lol

I remember that quote from about a year back, and it still looks like that may not be true.

It's still true. If a game it's going to be shared between the Wii/Ps2 nobody it's going to make the ps2 the lead sku anymore. You will see more and more examples of this in the upcoming months.

And I remember plenty of people since 2005 claiming that Nintendo was going to die this gen.

 2008 end of year predictions:

PS3: 22M

360: 25M

wii: 40M

Also untrue, so you know that nintendo hasn't died yet, and neither has the PS2, so don't use that as an excuse as why it won't lead over the Wii, when PS2 sales are still quite strong.
