Then you should be supporting the banning of anyone who has had more than 1 sexual partner in the past 12 months from donating blood.

You are wrong and you know it. Your statements make you sound stupid, ignorant, whiny and bitchy. Stop being anal.

Again, do you want little children who need blood plasma have a higher risk of getting HIV only so you can win an argument?

WOW, using names? Immaturity at it's finest. Fearmongering too.

In 2007 the Health Protection Agency (HPA) announced that the number of newly diagnosed HIV infections amongst gay men had risen for the third successive year, to an all time high.18 In 2010 sex between men accounted for 2,363 new HIV diagnoses, representing 39 per cent of new diagnoses that year.19 By the end of 2009, the number of MSM living with HIV in the UK was estimated at 35,000.20 An estimated four out of five probably acquired their infection in the UK.21 However, around 9,000 MSM living with HIV in the UK are unaware that they are infected.

The level of HIV infection caused by injecting drug use is relatively low in the UK; around 1.8 percent of all new HIV diagnoses in 2010 were attributed to injecting drug use. Just over a third of these infections were definitely acquired within the UK. By the end of December 2010 injecting drug use accounted for 5 percent of HIV diagnoses ever reported in the UK.

So when it comes to AIDS levels among populations it seems that homosexuality has a much larger risk than intravenous drug users.

Heterosexuals make up half the rate but as others have said its mostly immigrants from Africa( why they wouldn't be screened for this is another matter entirely). Plus there are a lot more straight people than gay, so per capita the rate is much higher among gays.

aha just do as you said before, don't try to reason with him, i agree with this 100%

@Sapphi This is nothing to do with being "homophobic" its to do with low risk infection of the blood and higher risk infection of the blood and Homosexuality leads to a potentioal Higher risk of blood infection...so COMMON sense would be to take more precaution in dealing with higher risk of blood infection

Can you please explain to me how 'homosexuality leads to a potential higher risk of blood infection'?

It's moreso to do with anal sex than homosexuality if I remember correctly. There's a higher risk of infection/tearing in anal sex. Or that's what I've always heard. That could have just been an excuse I've heard time and time again to "justify" homosexuals being banned from giving blood.

It's true. A friend of mine actually did a paper on this for assignment in high school, I still remember the look on our teacher's face

of course the problem with men is they don't usuallyt have a second option, so...

High school?! What subject was it?

The problem is that this ultimately leads to people getting banned for simply being gay, even though there otherwise isn't any reason they would be believed to be HIV positive. A HIV negative gay person who is in a monogamous relationship with another HIV negative person would be banned, while a heterosexual man who has had sex with a different woman every night for the past month would be qualified.

Aren't they supposed to test the blood anyways? Honestly, this seems like racial profiling, only even more stupid.

They do test the blood. If you read the OP you'd see that there is a period of time after catching HIV that it cannot be detected in the blood.

And taking blood from a straight person and saying 'oh, this person's straight and AIDS is a gay disease, so I'm sure we can use it with no worries' is such a good ideea. This is just another case of demeaning gay people.

AIDs is much much more prevalent amongst men who have sex with men in the developed world. That is simple fact. To not use that information simply because some people see it as discriminatory would risk infecting people with HIV.

Dont try to use reason, statistics and facts with people that moralise.

Homophobia is irrational, so you're one to talk.

I am not homophobic.

I also approve that known drug addicts cannot donate blood due to the same reason. And I do not care if said drug addicts are homosexual or heterosexual.

I really dislike that you are putting your "homosexuals are always discriminated" above the risk of small children being put at greater risk to get HIV via blood infusions.

So being gay is the same as being a drug addict? And heterosexuals don't engage in promiscuous sex? You are aware that the current situation allows for promiscuous heterosexuals, and even heterosexual prostitutes to donate blood, no? All this while homosexuals who don't engage in promiscuous sex are banned, and all because they're gay.

Please try some reading comprehension and dont play stupid.

I am against any group of people with higher risk of HIV exposure donating blood.

gay men are such a group. Deal with it.

Then you should be supporting the banning of anyone who has had more than 1 sexual partner in the past 12 months from donating blood.

I actually never knew the exact name, its something along the line of PE/random cap letters/random cap letters/. I only know PE stands for physical education, never bothered to learn the rest. its basically about health & sports, a big part of the study for that particular term was on safe sex, we even had to learn how to put a condom on a dildo correctly.

yeah the subject was half sports half study, but sports are just for fun since they don't add to the grade, its really about learning all the health issues, not like that would prevent us becoming the fattiest country in the world ( or did Americans reclaim the throne when I wasn't looking?).

Honestly I think their should be a minimum of a year to two years between having sex with a different male partner and donating blood. With HIV being so high amongst gay couples I think that laxing the laws to much only jeoprodizes public safety.

Also I think similiar laws should be applied to straight men as well. If a guy is sleeping with a different girl every week then the chances of getting infected are huge. That man should not be able to donate blood until he has had at least a year with one girl. Insuring that he doesn't have aids.

I think a major reason for the height of homosexual HIV is the promiscuity. I know a few gay guys and they have sex with different partners constantly. They have orgies and all kinds of shit. But the straight people I know, I don't know any that have sex nearly as much as those gay guys or with as many partners.

My most promiscusios friend (Straight) probably had sex with 2 to 3 different girls a month. At least thats what he bragged constantly who knows could have been less. While one of the gay guys I know talks about having sex with different guys all the time. Even here in this thread a gay guy said he was having sex with a different person every few days. That is just sick, no I don't know any straight guys who have sex with that many women.

However tides are beginning to change. Straight people are beginning to fuck more and more. Fewer marriages more one night stands and screwing multiple girls a year. Hence the rise in straight HIV, however it is still far smaller then homosexual HIV. But can't be ignored.

As such I think if you are outside of a dedicated relationship (Sleeping with someone new within the past year) then you should not be able to give blood. Your blood could be contaminated and infecting some poor innocent person is a horrible thing to do just because you want the equal right to give blood.

I haven't been allowed to donate blood for years due to being on medication. You don't see me getting pissed off, I know that my blood is contaminated and could harm people. As such homosexuals and men who screw multiple girls a year should not be allowed to donate either. Safety first.

This isn't an issue of rights, its an issue of safety. Blood banks are supposed to save lives not end them!

What is your problem? Why so insulting? Do I state I have anything against gays? No, I am perfectly fine with them, as I have stated multiple times.

The argument is not about being homophobic, but that guy turns it into his own personal war against non-existant homophobics. I have told him that multiple times in the conversation. He just ignores that and goes on in his small little "everyone is against me" war.

It is silly and stupid and you know it.

Then you rush in to insult me on calling him out. Way to save the day, big hero.
