The way the statement is worded is important here. Women who have immigrated from Africa are one of the most likely groups to have HIV but they mostly caught it in Africa rather than acquiring the infection in the UK.

of course there is that, but a lot of illegal women end up becoming prostitutes, which I think is a much greater HIV risk group than gay men.

It is a high HIV risk group, which is why anybody who has ever been a prostitute may not donate blood.

and they spread HIV much faster. everyone knows men to men sex = HIV, but an illegal prostitute is easily an equal of multiple gay men when it comes to spreading HIV. they're both high risk groups, but illegal prostitution is far more dangerous, I thought it was pretty simple, strangely many people I talk to don't think that way.

that was figuratively speaking, a metaphor, I was trying to make a point about how everyone is so well informed of the HIV risk of men to men sex, you know?

This reminds me of high school. One of my exes was trying to donate blood and he was honest about having sex with a guy in the past and they told him he couldn't donate. Then he saw this guy he knew that was kind of a gay whore donating blood.

The most absurd thing about it is that I've heard they test blood for HIV anyway once you have given the blood.


As stated in the OP there is a window after catching HIV where it cannot be detected in the blood. So while they do test for HIV it is still important to screen out groups that are at a high risk of having contracted HIV recently.

They do test the blood. If you read the OP you'd see that there is a period of time after catching HIV that it cannot be detected in the blood.

And taking blood from a straight person and saying 'oh, this person's straight and AIDS is a gay disease, so I'm sure we can use it with no worries' is such a good ideea. This is just another case of demeaning gay people.


AIDs is much much more prevalent amongst men who have sex with men in the developed world. That is simple fact. To not use that information simply because some people see it as discriminatory would risk infecting people with HIV.

Dont try to use reason, statistics and facts with people that moralise.

I also approve that known drug addicts cannot donate blood due to the same reason. And I do not care if said drug addicts are homosexual or heterosexual.

I really dislike that you are putting your "homosexuals are always discriminated" above the risk of small children being put at greater risk to get HIV via blood infusions.

So being gay is the same as being a drug addict? And heterosexuals don't engage in promiscuous sex? You are aware that the current situation allows for promiscuous heterosexuals, and even heterosexual prostitutes to donate blood, no? All this while homosexuals who don't engage in promiscuous sex are banned, and all because they're gay.

It's moreso to do with anal sex than homosexuality if I remember correctly. There's a higher risk of infection/tearing in anal sex. Or that's what I've always heard. That could have just been an excuse I've heard time and time again to "justify" homosexuals being banned from giving blood.

It's true. A friend of mine actually did a paper on this for assignment in high school, I still remember the look on our teacher's face

of course the problem with men is they don't usuallyt have a second option, so...

The fact that HIV rates are higher amongst homosexuals doesn't mean that homosexuality leads to a higher risk of HIV infection. That's like saying that since crime rates are higher amongst black people, blackness leads to a higher potential of becoming a criminal (something which is obviously an aberration).

Promiscuous sex is what leads to getting HIV (the more sex partners you have, the higher your chances of contracting a STD).
