i take it you didn't watch gamescom and the Resistance burning skies demo. mostly (98%)all of Vitas games have differnet gameplay mechanics. PS3 and Vita will be one in the same for 30% of there games but the rest will differ so drasticly. take a look at M.U.G.E.N.S official vita thread or wait for some gameplay vid's.

long  thread short only time will tell.

PSP's biggest games are MGS, God of War, some Final Fantasy JRPG's, and well basically scaled down PS3 games. Daxter and Jeanne d'Arc are a couple of the unique PSP games.

Not trying to bring down Sony handhelds, but don't most people view PSP as PS2 Portable? How is PSV different from PS3 portable?

And 3DS has only the 3D more then Wii and how 3D chance the way to play a game the touch screen yes but the 3D no.

If port have a better succes then unique game in PSVita is not the Sony problem, Sony make both port and new IP .

Reality Fighter is the only game of those you listed that I would consider unique, and it's not really unique to PSV. 3DS has 3D camera games too, just not one this cool.

I have a feeling Wii U will start like 3DS too. However that may not be a bad thing, the 360 had a crap library the first year it was out and that 4-5 million head start gave it an edge over the PS3. It also gave Gears 1 enough of a user base to generate decent sales. Nintendo might need that same edge for Wii U, I feel they will have trouble making their games HD quality and generating strong third party support.

Anyway, back to PSV and PS3, other then The Last Guardian what else is coming for PS3 in 2012? Final Fantasy XIII Versus? Last Guardian will be big, but it will only boost sales for 1-2 weeks, not enough to keep hardware sales strong. I think regardless of the PSV, PS3 is over the hill, and I think either 2012 or 2013 will mark a drastic drop in sales in Japan, just like Wii did. This is regardless of the PSV, and I was only curious to see if people thought the PSV might drop it further.

However, everyone seems to think no, so that answers my question, and the OP.

so wht do you think will happen 2012? i forgot the op lol. the Wii only droped when suport stop'd thats way i see it. i thinkg 1 of those final fantasy games will be released next yr, and like i said before a fighting game will be released next yr. the pricedrop may continue to carry some weight and keep sales even to this yr.

maybe even some more HD classic's. the PSP line up. when you think about it any thing can do it, i think it will just be sells in general.

nothing really big to boost sells just enough to keep them stable.

In Japan Wii has been getting strong software support for the last while. Rythym Heaven, Goldeneye, Epic Mickey, Inazuma Eleven, Wii Play Plus, etc. Software is to blaime a bit, but it's not like this is the first dry spell Wii has gotten.

For 2012, I think WW all consoles will drop in sales. Wii and DS will get really weak, PS3 and 360 will probably even out in weekly sales and fall in overall sales in a similar pattern, and obviously PSv and 3DS will thrive. For Japan, I feel we will see drops in weekly sales here first. Wii and DS are already weak, and 360 is basically dead. The next system to start dropping is the PS3 (and hence this is why I feel PS3 and 360 weekly sales will even out).

The PS3 price drop will likely benefit the PS3 less then the Slim price drop of 09, and Move of 2010. I think PS3 is heading downhill, just like everyone else. So i disagree with you about overall sales to be stable with this year. That is unless FF Versus XIII finally releases, and it turns out to be really really good. FFXIII is an old game now, so I'm not sure if the name will be big enough to push system sales.

Anyway, we have gotten far off topic. This thread should die now.

The next system to start dropping is the PS3 (and hence this is why I feel PS3 and 360 weekly sales will even out). it's logical to think all consoles will drop but i think PS3 will continue to ride on its price drop and yet to be announced games. move and Kinect may be major factors for software with move likely having the more hardcore ip's and afew casual hits which may also drive console sells up or stable. 3DS and Vita will thrive but i think Vita will take WW sells. yea i don't see 360 getting much love out side the U.S. andthat will likely drop to but i wouldn't bet on it. theres more Halo coming with another COD release next yr aswell which will likely see DLC 360 first, but sell will be mynute from that. PS3 does seem to be the next to drop but its current price leaves flexabilitiy for a future price cut if need be which can keep sells up down the road. $199 is the sweat spot for home console sells but many think that time has passed for Sony but wht person in there right mind would pass up a good deal?

still either could happen i just happen to think Sony will do 15m in 2012. if i had to say other wise i'd go down to 13 or 14m but nothing less.

FFXIII-2 and versus are going to give PS3 the edge and may be the main drivers for sells next yr for PS3 and likely keeping 360 (9-11m)high aswell. FFXIII versus is old but hype will be off the charts once a release date in announced.

Anyway, we have gotten far off topic. This thread should die now. meh. where having a convrsation not trolling lol, and were still talking about sells are we not!

japan could provide the support to PS3 to continue a sales boost or keep it stable. hey some RPG's could get released, maybe even the witcher which has already been said to come to consoles given a timed exclusive for the 360.

You think Vita will outsell the 3DS in 2012? Why? Maybe in Japan, but not worldwide.

Also 360 has yet to have it's price cut, so if anything 360's price point gives MS flexibility. If MS drops the price for a console now, the Arcade Ed may cost as little as $150-$170. If the PS3 drops furthur, MS could sell it for $130. $130 brings the 360 into budget gamer teritory, and gives all hardcore gamers no excuse not to own a 360 as a secondary or tertiary system. There is an arguement to be had on both sides with price.

However the current PS3 price cut is barely making any affect at all. Weekly sales are only 10% stronger then 2010, and 2009 numbers will likely crush PS3's 2011 numbers. Another price cut in 2012 will only bump PS3 sales, but they will still be heading downhill.

If PS3 sells 9-11 million in 2012, sales have still dropped. Is this what you refer to as stable? I'm not expecting PS360 sales to crash in 2012, just fall. For 2011 both Sony and Ms expect 15 million fiscal years, so they might not even drop at all.

9-11 million for 2012 is the same numbers I would predict for both PS3 and 360.

You think Vita will outsell the 3DS in 2012? Why? Maybe in Japan, but not worldwide. just a thought. never know though. i think it can. right now with wht i've seen it has the right software line up, and COD on vita could kill 3DS. right now its all speculation but Vita looks to have more support then 3DS so i have to go by that right now. 2012 has to start for anyone to get a good picture on how well Vita will do.

Also 360 has yet to have it's price cut, so if anything 360's price point gives MS flexibility. If MS drops the price for a console now, the Arcade Ed may cost as little as $150-$170. There is an arguement to be had on both sides with price. dito but look at it like this. 360 has already been through the ringer when it comes to price. its been everything but $130, but most of that was do to fazing out the older modles. 360 arcade isn't even the bigger selling of the modles which leads me to think that there current priced $299 modle could be in direct comp whith Sonys current priced $249 modle. Sony may be in a running game with MS next yr if MS drops price on there 160g and 320g modles which are the most important modles. Sony will need killer IP if they want to avoid a price drop next yr but i think Agent, the last guardian and FFXIII versus will help move sells along nicely.

However the current PS3 price cut is barely making any affect at all. Weekly sales are only 10% stronger then 2010, and 2009 numbers will likely crush PS3's 2011 numbers. Another price cut in 2012 will only bump PS3 sales, but they will still be heading downhill. well really the iggest focus will be on Nintendo next yr anyway with Wiiu and the 3DS out. all eyes will be on Nintendo. thats the only comp i see next yr other then Vita and 3DS. again if FFXIII versus gets released next yr Sony will do well, and likely ake my currently projected 15m by yr's end. if not then theres alot of luck and hope riding on that prediction which never stays the same if you've look at my sig over the past yr. when i fill a move i make a change, and for 2012 i fill no need to make that chaange but i'm starting to lean more on the 14m side. my predictions are all about filling and thats how i've gotten so many right. not one wrong yet. i even predicted 8 months in advance when Sony would reach 50m units sold. wht can i say ts a filling.

If PS3 sells 9-11 million in 2012, sales have still dropped. Is this what you refer to as stable? I'm not expecting PS360 sales to crash in 2012, just fall. For 2011 both Sony and Ms expect 15 million fiscal years, so they might not even drop at all. when i say stable i mean sell 15m in 2011 and 2012. i don't see MS hitting 15m this yr. 12 to 14 is more likely.

9-11 million for 2012 is the same numbers I would predict for both PS3 and 360. i may be to ambitious?

Your english is not that great either ;)

Most of the 3DS games can be done on the wii in some way or another. 3D is not a game changer...it doesnt really change the core gameplay experience yet. So i dont get why you keep pointing out that the psv games can be easily done on the ps3? Ofcourse it can. Although i suspect games fully made around the touch/rear end touch in the future will not able to be done on ps3.

And im not sure if you've noticed but the PSV has been brought across (at E3) as a device thats capable of gaming experiences similar to the ps3. I think the main reason for that focus at E3 was to show off its technical prowess. Which is fine because thats the kinda things people wanna see from a next gen portable, especially Sony fans. But lets get this straight this is a good thing!

Ever since after E3 Sony has been touting the psv's other features, the features that make it a portable. And i think this is where you get redundant. You expecting something more from a console thats not designed for what your looking for: a truly unique way of playing. The psv, imo, is Sony playing to its strengths. So many people critized the psp as having a lack of identity and nothing truly unique. But what people dont get is that it was never ever meant to be anything more. So this way Sony is making it very clear this is the PSV, it can do everything (home gaming experiences as well as the portable experience which is where psp lacked). And i think as others has pointed out theres been a hell of a lot of games to take advantage of the psv controls as well as games designed specifically for portable experiences. A good example would be .....  cant remem what its called that game about escaping from a prision?

And to answer your question from OP, no it wont have an affect on ps3 sales. These are two completely different market spaces! A person looking for a handheld is generally not loking for a home console at the same time. They are two distinctly different platforms. The thing where the original psp got it wrong, was that it failed on both fronts to a degree. It didnt really recreate the home experience on the go, and it certainly didnt have that much games designed for portable it also failed to deliver 'unique' experiences so it was left no where (it stil sold well though, so maybe im being a bit harsh but im trying to make a point -_- ).Sony is looking to correct this and is trying to be succesful this time around on both fronts, and in doing so creating its won truly unique console.

Reality Fighter is the only game of those you listed that I would consider unique, and it's not really unique to PSV. 3DS has 3D camera games too, just not one this cool.

Regardless, all of these games are niche products. These type of games already exist on the 3DS, and have existed on the DS, and have never proven to sell well before. These don't define the PSV as much as Uncharted or LBP do, and they make the PSV feel like a PS3 portable in the same was as PSP feels like a PS2 portable.

If PSP cut PS2 sales in Japan, doesn't it make sense that PSV cut PS3 sales? Especially since they are the same price?

I doubt that my english is bad...

3D is a game changer, it's the entire platform of 3DS. Wii can't do 3D, and 3DS can't do Wii Sports. They are completly different consoles, with different games, and audiences. I know people who only have Wii for Dance Central, and no DS/3DS, and I know people who have a DS just for Pokemon. Different demograph, with some overlap.

How many major PSV titles are centered on the touch pads? Uncharted is the crown gem so far and it's just a watered down version of the console interation (which isn't a bad thing).

bold - That's my point, so wouldn't launching the PSV in Japan affect PS3 sales? After all the Japanese audience is largely migrating to handhelds, if PSV is PS3 portable, some sales must be lost. This is my question in the OP.

You just said the PSV is marketed as a portable PS3, and now you are saying it's a completly different market place. You say the PSV is not unique in it's games, yet it is.

Make up your mind before you debate, you can't say PSV is both the same and different from the PS3 for opposite reasons.

PSV might do better then PSP, but that's not my point. I only asked in in Japan will PSV's launch hurt PS3 sales? In Japan, lots of people who look at consoles also look at handhelds. The market is migrating.

If the PS3 drops furthur, MS could sell it for $130. $130 brings the 360 into budget gamer teritory, and gives all hardcore gamers no excuse not to own a 360 as a secondary or tertiary system. There is an arguement to be had on both sides with price. dito but look at it like this.

PSV could outsell 3DS, I would be ignorant to thing otherwise. After all Wii outsold PS3 after PS2 nearly killed the Gamecube. PSV could do the same. However I see more support for 3DS on a software front.

For price, I 100% agree. Arcade models account for less then 20% of 360 sales, so the more critical console to compete with Sony is the 250GB model (likely to be upgraded to 320GB). However there is no 160GB 360 model. Just the Arcade, 250GB, and Kinect bundles. I also think some of the Kinect bundles will affect sales during the holidays.

Just a side note, do you think Agent and FF Versus XIII will stay exclusive? FFXIII sold extremely well on the 360, and Rockstar games sell better on 360 then PS3. It would be a huge market to ignore keeping the franchise exclusive, and anything is possible after ME2 went multi-platform.

You really think PS3 will sell 14 million next year? Weekly sales were 10% lower this year before the price cut, it's going to be the same again next year. Also you said Wii died when software died, what software does PS3 have for 2012? The Last Guadian is the only major confirmed game, but that games been delayed every year for the last 2 years already. Even multiplatform games are thining out.

I think you are ambitious about PS3 sales next year. 2012 is the last year 360 gets CoD map pack exclusives (must be a reason), The last Assassin's Creeed comes out, and every franchise is seeing an end. Mass Effect, and Gears of War are finishing their trilogies, and I can't picture a 4th Uncharted or Resistance. There may be another Resident evil or GTA game, but really almost everything is dying. How long can we live off sequels?

Out of curiousity, when do you think PS4/720 will release? and when do you think PS3 sales will start droping?

You really think PS3 will sell 14 million next year? Weekly sales were 10% lower this year before the price cut, it's going to be the same again next year. ok i'll stop playing with your head and sheed some light on the situation. lets wait till TGS, CES, Jan., Feb., and GDC. Sony can't wait till E3 to tell us anything cause by then its almost to late, and they'll be focusing on 2013 with a likely huge price drop and the unveiling of PS3 for a 2014 launch. beside Sony i know for leaks during those times so we will see something if theres anything to see.

I think you are ambitious about PS3 sales next year. 2012 is the last year 360 gets CoD map pack exclusives (must be a reason), The last Assassin's Creeed comes out, and every franchise is seeing an end. So we may see a fall release for those games next yr considering development started on the games near 1-2 yrs ago.

Out of curiousity, when do you think PS4/720 will release? and when do you think PS3 sales will start droping? aw man i already gave this one away. well my previous prediction for PS3 sells to start droping is 2015. i think Sony will see 7 to 10m for the yr with PPS4 being out as both PS2 and3 continue to move into more markets not held by anyone else. next gen will also see establish'd franchises make a splash return then disappear. well Sonys anyway. Sony may go even further back while continuing the trend of releasing new IP.

PS4 and 720 will release in late 2014. its just more logical then 2013 considering 7th gen consoles have to be priced right for some to consider upgrading, and a PS3 or 360 at $199 when PS4 and 720 come out at 299-399 doesn't make the 7th gen look to cheap or the bth gen look attractive to casual gamers and cheap buyers.

For 3DS vs PSV software, this may just be a matter of personal opinion. I don't think 3DS and PSV will be that different from DS and PSP, and if you ask me the DS has a better selection of games. Just lookin on IGN and there are close to 100 Editors Choice titles, but only a little above 50 on PSP. Either way, I'm willing to agree on us having a different view.

360 has only 2 models. 4GB Arcade, and 250GB Elite. However there is a 320GB available with limited editions of 360's such as the Modern Warfare 3, Halo Reach, and Gears of War 3 bundled 360's. I bet the 350GB will be upgraded to 320GB sometime soon. There are also boxed Kinect bundles, so if you count those then there are 4 models to choose from.

For Agent and Versus. I always felt those games would go multiplatform. You make a good point about Versus, but FFXIII still went multiplatform relativly close to release, and it helped sales overall significantly.

For 2012 software. My point is there isn't many well known major titles announced. We knew about Resistance 3, Uncharted 2, Killzone 3, LBP2, SOCOM and all the other major 2011 titles early into 2010, even earlier for some. I feel PS3 and 360 exclusive software is begining to rely more and more on sequels (almost every major title for both platforms this year is a sequel), and that overall less software is being made. Nintendo already announced the Wii U, I expect Sony and MS to be working on some launch titles, or early projects for that system by now.

I'll wait for TGS, but if nothing major isn't announced there, I don't think much more will be. I expect to hear about a Resident Evil 6, but that's a sequel, and Multi-plat.

For PS4, I think you are far too ambitious about Sony. You know prior to this gen, almost every console peaked in sales 2 years after release? DS was the first exception with a 4 year peak, then 360 made it 5. It's about time for sales to drop, I understand this gen will mark the start of longer generations of gaming, but a jump from 5-10 years all of a sudden is ridiculous. PS4/720 may come out in 2014, but PS360 sales will drop, maybe even this year. I can't see them holding above 10 million in 2013.
