Forums - Sony - Sony: 'We have to do better in UK'

Anyone know if he meant 'our region' as Western Europe / Australia or 'Europe (all of it)' or 'Western Europe' only when citing the 50m?

Back in 2010 Nintendo cited figures from GFK / NPD / M-C which showed PS2 at about 115m in the USA / Europe / Japan which was shown as 45m USA / 22m Japan / 48m Europe when comparing console penetration to DS penetration

I think it's gone off the rails a bit too much already for me to start yet another flame war about who's being pathetic and who isn't.

Plus, I think me calling a whole bunch of people pathetic will result in me "Flaming" by VGC standards, so when I don't name names then they can't exactly ban me

I don't really get Seece and Kowenicki, after so many VGchartz wars and a long term duty I would expect that you know what people mean with UK not being a strong market for Sony. We probably had hundreds of forum members who said the same including ioi and (The Source?). Well atleast I remember ioi saying this so why make a big thing about it. Uk is an 'important' market for Sony if you want to give it a name...

I believe just about everyone here does understand that the UK is "weak" for SONY in terms of market penetration compared to the other consoles.

Me and kowen get that, we just think it's  a silly benchmark to use.

That's the thing though. Sony has just said in the OP that marketshare & placings are very important to them as a company. Something I and others have been saying in another thread. I just don't understand why you continue to say that market share is 'silly' or 'diddlysquat' to a company.

I'm not arguing that marketshare is more important than install base, I'm just saying that it is something that Sony cares a great deal about. Sure install base is a higher priority, I agree with that. But to imply that marketshare is next-to-meaningless is worng.

It's also stupid because, PS3 has reached £199 a lot later than PS1 and PS2 did. The idea that they can drop to mass market price at any point and it'll hit PS2-esq strides is stupid, the thing isn't even mass market price in America yet, looks like it'll hit it when WiiU hits which will be the start of next gen, do people really believe PS3 sales are going to take off massively when this very long gen comes to a close and next gen starts??!

of course they do... its the power of the playstation family... its only possible on playstation.

I don't believe anybody mentioned PS2 level sales.

Bottom line is, this generation still has quite a few years to go yet and many people have held off buying a PS3 because of its high price. In terms of software, late 2011 and 2012 is looking to be the strongest period yet for the PS3, which will add more fuel to PS3 sales. Not every generation plays out the same, what makes you think sales trends will be identical?

Why do you need to downplay the significance of the price cut so much?

Seece and kowenicki. So afraid of potential strong PlayStation sales. Fun stuff. Is this why people come to this site?

Why is your stock response to anything "xxx is scared....  lol" they are "they are just afraid... lol" .

Its boring, unimaginative and adds nothing to a conversation.... its what id expect from a 13 year old and is clearly only designed to irritate and provoke.

It seems "13 year old tactics" are enough to irritate and provoke you.  Very telling about you indeed.    So why is your stock response to most anything pro Sony/Playstation negative?  It adds nothing to the conversation.

well, at least you admit to 13 yr old tactics...  thats the first step in recovery.

and my stock response to anything sony related isnt negative.... you just see that, becasue you want to.

Well, at least you admit being sensitive to 13 year old tactics (And, no, I didn't admit to it since the phrase was put in quotes for argument sake).  And my stock response isn't "xxx is scared... lol" or "thay are just afraid... lol."  You see that because you want to.

Yeah I have to agree with Kowen, come up with something a bit more original...

Truth doesn't require creativity.  Spin and excuse making does.

I think I'm gonna vacate the forums till January if the petty bickering has started already...

i agree with euphoria...I imagined ethomaz running to a nice beach in brazil and laughing like a maniac after this! LOL :D the timing is just....too good

Bullshit. He actually means

'We need to beat X360'

Which doesn't translate into weak at all.

“History has shown us that once you get to £199 you hit lift off. We can do some serious business and this kick-starts that. Getting to £199 was a defining moment for the PSone and PS2 – this will be no different.“

Except the PS1 and PS2 were dominant consoles, the PS3 isn't, and won't beat the 360 this holiday.

I think he means, 'we need to sell more PS3's here.'

And, you could argue that the PS1 & PS2 were more dominant partly because they hit £199 a lot earier.

This £199 thing is such a red herring....

The PS2 hit £199 in 2003... thats the equivalent of £240 now.

I have no idea on the PSOne, but £199 in 1999 is now £260.

I dont buy the psychological tipping point nonsense to try and justify this, so please dont anyone bother with that... its about affordability and nothing else.

yeh well those people that think it will take off like ps2 are probably wrong, just like with most of you 360 fans before kinect came out saying the 360 was gonna miraculousy start selling like the wii used to. instead its just about striving over 100k each week.
