Forums - Sony - Sony: 'We have to do better in UK'

this is funny especially people on damage control, their responses are so typical. for not liking the system they sure are obsessed with it.

how this became an issue since the previous thread is a mystery to me (well perhaps not, considering who started it)

Seece and kowenicki. So afraid of potential strong PlayStation sales. Fun stuff. Is this why people come to this site?

Yeah I have to agree with Kowen, come up with something a bit more original. I dunno how I could be 'scared' over Sony selling more PS3's, it's not as if it has an impact on my life in any way.

Why does it seem you never add anything to threads, just pathetic weak baseless remarks which we could do without, on top of that I have to keep looking at that baby every time you quote me.

This is a sales forum and right now, the PS3 is the only interesting console to talk about, not that I hate it anyway, that's just your immagination, where I don't like Sony fans it must mean I don't like Sony/Playstation, you're wrong.

You know what I find funny, people like you and metal in the sales section at all.

I don't really get Seece and Kowenicki, after so many VGchartz wars and a long term duty I would expect that you know what people mean with UK not being a strong market for Sony. We probably had hundreds of forum members who said the same including ioi and (The Source?). Well atleast I remember ioi saying this so why make a big thing about it. Uk is an 'important' market for Sony if you want to give it a name...

Let's be good teens and not piss scared people off! O-)

I fail to see how this article proves Ethomaz's point from that other thread...Would anyone care to elaborate?

"Everything we hear is an opinion, not a fact. Everything we see is a perspective, not the truth." -My good friend Mark Aurelius

With and RRP of £199, PS3 is primed for the mass market boom seen by its predecessors. And the better price will help Sony beef up its UK market share, according to SCEE head Jim Ryan.

highly doubt it its predecessors have alot of exclusive 3rd party support this gen some of the big guns arent exclusive FF, GTA and all other R* games RDR la noir, RE, and metal gear besides 4

Speaking to MCV at Gamescom last week, the new SCEE president and CEO told us that the fresh bargain price for PS3 – which can already be found for £179 at some retailers – can set it on course to outsell the competition.

lol theres noway it will outsell 360 in UK none, besides most all the big games being on 360 and in most cases it being the superior game product (besides PC) the 360 is cheaper than the PS3 still, and will bet MS will do something more to the current skus value wise

“This is something we have been planning for a while,” said Ryan. “Getting to £199 is fantastic in the UK. It’s a real milestone. UK is one of the territories where we have to do better.

actually i always thought £149 would be the milestone youd want to get to, like it says below  "Historically previous Sony PlayStation home consoles have hit a mass market turning point once they went below the £200 mark" not just £199 lol

“Whether you approach the UK from the perspective of our momentum, or the perspective of the competitive landscape, for us the UK is more like US than continental Europe. If you look across the PAL territory, where typically we outsell our competitors by around 50 per cent on a weekly basis, it’s inverted in the UK.

“That is something we want to address.”

Ryan refused to shirk the blame for PS3’s weaker UK performance on the current state of the economy or retail’s own struggles. “It’s somewhat the case but I wouldn’t seek to lay it all at the door of those problems. We have similarly challenged economies in other territories in the world where our business is particularly vibrant.”

Historically previous Sony PlayStation home consoles have hit a mass market turning point once they went below the £200 mark, Ryan added.

“History has shown us that once you get to £199 you hit lift off. We can do some serious business and this kick-starts that. Getting to £199 was a defining moment for the PSone and PS2 – this will be no different.“

yes it will be a bit different go look at ps1 and 2s library compared to its competition at that time i believe that was a factor along with the price drop

PS2 across our territory went well over 50m units. We’re at 22m on PS3. So there’s lots of life in that still to come.”

the price doesnt matter much tbh as it says in the article PS3 outsells its comp. in other areas and has been with the higher price for some time

it also says that the UK market is similar to the US i believe sony can drop the price of the PS3 all they want in US and UK it wont do much, its that the audience in these regions demand a different game experience one that i believe MS has nailed this gen.    you need to release exclusive games that are an all around great gaming package good campaign story, online component that can mach and exceed the comp's. features, coop, and a separate mode that lets you be reckless and can experiment with the game like COD has with combat training/specops and other games with horde/beast mode

games that sony has been releasing to the western audience to make up for the lack of a huge exclusives like gears and halo and the lost of mega 3rd party exclusive like GTA ect. recently are heavy rain, god of war, lpb, and infamous these are just good SP experiences there not an all around package.  there have been others that do have a MP function like UC2, resistance, and KZ but imo theres still not even close to being equivalent when you put them up to 360s exclusive titles

I believe just about everyone here does understand that the UK is "weak" for SONY in terms of market penetration compared to the other consoles.

Me and kowen get that, we just think it's  a silly benchmark to use.
