The biggest flop so far this year is Mars Needs Moms which had a production budget of $150million dollars and only made $39.5 at the box office.

I was just never sure of how much Disney took on because without looking because I am on a horrible computer, I believe that they took over some company and that is where they got Gnomeo and Juliet and this movie. Luckily for them Gnomea did a little bit better. Wiki says Gnomeo was 36 million budget so they did well on that one.

Gnomeo & Juliet was made without any Disney money and they only have a minor role in the movie as a whole as Toustone Pictures is the distributor of the movie in the US.  The bad part about Mars Needs Moms bombing so hard is that it caused the cancellation of the remake of The Yellow Submarime which had some good potential and would have had a lot more global appeal.  Disney had the dobious distinction of being involved with two of the biggest bombs of the past ten years and all time, since The Alamo also bombed big time in 2004 with a budget of $145million and box office revenue of $25.8 million.

ATTACK THE BLOCK
Production Budget 13 million

Worldwide: $4,892,017

It was supposed to be a pretty good movie, I guess we will have to see what other territories bring us.

I don't think it will get a wide enough release in the US to help its box office that much, but I'm pretty sure it will break even and make a small profit with Blu-ray/DVD sales and televison royalties.

Conan the Barbarian(2001) is in big trouble, will probably make no profit. So far it flopped in US(4), Australia(7) and France(8).
Total Lifetime Grosses
USA: $12,080,427 68.7%
+ Foreign: $5,500,000 31.3%
= Worldwide: $17,580,427
Production Budget: $90 million

That movie is crazy! I have not seen LGF that much this year, and this does not look like it is going to help a once so so company

I  supose LGF made (a small) profit with " The Lincoln Lawyer", any reports on DVD/BR sales?

At least last year was quite good for them with "the Expendables" and "Tiler´s Perry why did i get married too".

The biggest box office surprise this year for me has to be Fast Five.

On a $125 million budget it grossed $209,837,675 domestic, $400,000,000 international
Worldwide - $609,837,675

The first movie way back in 01 grossed more modestly

Domestic: - $144,533,925. International - $62,750,000
Worldwide: $207,283,925

What I dont understand is how there has been such a boom in the international box office in recent years. Especially a series like Fast & Furious where its taylor made for the american market with the focus on muscle cars and tuning.

Cutthroat Island definitely lost money

MikeB predicts that the PS3 will sell about 140 million units by the end of 2016 and triple the amount of 360s in the long run.

BAttle:LA hits Japan with about 2.5 million in sales this last weekend!

Production Budget: $70 million

= Worldwide: $204,952,429

Equals win!

US DVD Sales: $16,152,955

From my understanding, the budget was much higher, but they got a ~$25 million tax credit for filming in Louisiana.

I hope they make a sequel. One of the better movies of 2011.

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.

The US dollar has taken a nose dive in comparison to other currencies, so movies make more US money. Additionally, you are seeing a few very specific players grow very rapidly economically like China and South Korea which are contributing massive amounts of cash to markets.

For example, Transformers 3 grossed upwards of $150 million USD in China, and $70 million in South Korea. 10 years ago, heck, even 5 years ago these markets were pretty small.

I am always very surprised when I see Chinese numbers! I am happy for them, I hope that video games catch on that well over there! Just think of a system selling a billion systems WW!

They're already that big in China, but they've taken the South Korean model. MMOs and PC games are huge, not consoles.

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.

My prediction: Conan the Barbarian will never make a profit, not unless it makes cultish "so bad it's good" status. Unfortunately I don't think it's in that league.
